Rise Of House Cason

Chapter 26 - The Troll

The next day Art got a letter at breakfast from a student saying he was to meet Professor McGonagall in her office this morning. Finishing his toast, he made his way out of the Great Hall. He met Susan who was walking in to the Great Hall.

"Hi Susan! How is your first night?" Art asked, rubbing her head.

She pushed his hand off and looked sad. "I'm not in the same house as you. I'm in Hufflepuff." she said, a dejected look on her face.

"Hufflepuff is a great house. It doesn't matter what house you are in." he said, cheering her up. "If you need some help you can ask me when ever."

Susan smiled and thanked him, leaving to eat her breakfast. Art made his way to McGonagall's office and knocked on the door and entered.

"Mr. Cason. Thank you for coming." McGonagall said, sitting behind her desk.

Dumbledore was standing behind her, a warm smile on his face.

"Professor, Headmaster." Art greeted.

"We are here to discuss your classes this year." McGonagall said, adjusting her glasses. "Last year you were taking Healing, Dueling, Occlumency and Wards. Do you wish to continue with them?"

"Healing, Dueling and Warding, yes. Occlumency I have a grasp on and can continue practicing on my own."

Dumbledore looked into Art's eyes and gave a smile. "Yes I do believe you have some accomplishments in Occlumency."

"Is there a language teacher?" Art asked suddenly.

"I'm afraid not." Professor McGonagall said.

"Oh well." Art would just learn from books then.

"Now Headmaster has agreed to continue teaching you Wards again this year, as has Professor Flitwick. Madam Pomfrey said she would be delighted to teach you again." Professor McGonagall said looking at him from behind her glasses. "You must know Mr. Cason that Hogwarts doesn't have OWLS exams for these classes. You will have to go to the Ministry to take exams for them."

"Is it possible to take all my OWLS early professor?" Art asked.

Dumbledore answered, "It is possible. I would have to ask the Department of Magical Education to allow it."

"Just curious. No need to rush as I am only in my third year."

Dumbledore nodded. "I came here to ask you a favour Art. I want you to watch Harry Potter this year. No need to babysit or help him with his studies but just make sure harm doesn't come to him." he said, his blue eyes sparkled.

"No problem Headmaster." Art said.

Art was dismissed and headed to his first class. He had Dueling with Flitwick Monday nights, Wards on Wednesday night and Saturday mornings were for Healing again.

Meeting the twins and Cedric in Herbology, he went to work on his plants. Mrs. Sprout was teaching them about Puffapods and how to harvest them. Soon the class was over and Cedric asked what McGonagall wanted.

"Just to discuss my extra classes." Art said. "I'm not taking Occlumency this year so only take three extra classes."

"Only three…" Cedric rolled his eyes and muttered.

"Don't be jealous there Wolfy. Art is a freak of nature that we can't compare to." George said, nudging Cedric.

Cedric gave him a dirty look, not appreciating the name 'Wolfy'.

The rest of the day went without any problems, going to classes and adjusting to school life again. At the end of the day Art went to Flitwick's office for his Dueling class.

"Art my boy how was your summer!?" Flitwick asked, his squeaky voice happy.

"Good professor, I learned lots."

"Good now let's see how your dueling skills are." Flitwick said, taking out his wand and standing across from Art.

Art nodded his head, wanting to try some things he learned this summer.

Art pointed his non dominant hand at Flitwick and lightning shot out. Flitwick was stunned but was able to block it. Art pressed his advantage, waving his wand and fired spells at Flitwick, slowly closing the gap between them. Art saw an opening and a knife appeared in his hand, charging at Flitwick with great speed. Flitwick easily erected a shield around him but Art was ready for that, he sent lightning out from his hand and broke the barrier. Slashing down at Flitwick he had a smile on his face but quickly disappeared when he saw another shield already in place. Slamming into the shield he was sent flying back, crashing into a desk.

"Lightning… wandless magic? No it's different." Flitwick said, muttering.

Art smiled and dusted himself off. He took his stance again, ready for another round. The class continued as Art found himself on his a.s.s over and over again but he never got discouraged. Soon he made his way back to Gryffindor Tower and collapsed into a large chair. He saw Harry and Ron walking in, Harry waved to him and Art returned it.

"That Artland Cason, right?" Ron asked Harry.

Harry nodded, taking out his books to start his homework.

Ron looked over at Art, "I heard he is a genius. He takes extra classes because he found the regular classes boring. I can't understand why he is friends with Fred and George though."

"A genius?" Harry asked stunned.

"Yeah, top of his class. He taught Fred and George and they are now near the top of their classes. Apparently he helps anyone other students to."

"Will he help us?"

"No idea."

Harry looked at Art, who looked exhausted. "Let's leave him alone today, he looks tired." he said, focusing on his work.

Soon a bushy haired girl came into the common room and saw Art on the couch, her eyes lit up and ran towards him. "Mr. Cason, can I ask you a few questions?"

Opening his eyes, he saw the same girl from the train. "Hermione Granger right?"

"Yes sir." she said with a large smile.

"Call me Art or Artland and no sir. I'm a student like you." Art said, sitting up.

"Artland. I have some trouble with my Hover Charm, could you help me?"

"Okay. Perform it." he said, motioning towards a book.

She took out her wand and pointed at the book, swishing her wand she said, "Wingardium Leviosa."

The book slowly started to rise before shaking and falling to the floor. Herminone had a depressed look on her face.

"I'm guessing that you were able to make the feather float no problem but had trouble with larger objects." Art said to her, she nodded her head eagerly.

"You wand movement is correct but your magic is where you are lacking."

"My magic?" she asked, confused.

"What takes more effort, lifting a book or a feather?"

"The book." she answered automatically.

"I know you are a muggleborn so you have a basic understanding of physics and force. It is like that but use magic instead. If you want to lift the book, you have to use the right amount of magic." Art explained, he waved his wand and the book lifted into the air.

She nodded her head, understanding. She pointed at the book tried again. "Wingardium Leviosa."

The book lifted into the air and floated steadily.

She smiled widely, "Thank you!" she exclaimed. "Are you a muggleborn Art?"

"I was raised by muggles." Art said, not elaborating.

Harry and Ron both looked at Art teaching Hermione and felt like they had missed their chance.

Time went by and Art was busy with school work and extra classes. He was also busy in the Room of Requirements with the twins and Cedric.

Cedric sent a Full Body Binding spell at Fred, causing him to drop to the floor. He then unfroze him and sat down.

"That last run was a close one." Cedric said, rubbing his arm.

A couple days ago they went for a run on the grounds and entered the Forbidden Forest. Cedric came face to face with a Mountain Troll and was nearly crushed by its club, getting away with a broken arm. Art and the twins were able to come to his rescue, with the twins attacking its eyes and Art dragging away the wounded wolf. Though Art was able to heal Cedric in a second, the fear of almost dying had shook Cedric.

"That's why we are here, Wolfy. Getting stronger so we don't have to run away from danger." Fred standing up, a little stiff from the spell.

George laughed, "A little danger is good for us. Prepare us for the real world after school."

Cedric nodded, ready to spar with Fred again.

Soon it was Halloween, and the Great Hall was decorated beautifully. Art had turned 14 and didn't celebrate it. He heard, from the twins, that Harry had joined the Gryffindor Quidditch team as a seeker and was quite skilled. Art and the twins were eating in the Great Hall when Quirrell ran into up to the head table and said, "Troll- in the dungeons- thought you should know."

He passed out against the table. The Great Hall erupted into chaos and it took a couple of fireworks from Dumbledore to calm everyone down.

He told the Prefects to take everyone to their dormitories. Art and the twins followed the crowd until he noticed Harry, Ron and Hermione were not with them.

"Where's your brother?" he asked the twins. They looked around and couldn't find him.

They came to a silent agreement and turned around, fighting against the crowd.

"This is taking to long!" Fred yelled, getting pushed back.

"When I say, shift!" Art yelled, taking out his wand. Suddenly the hall was filled with smoke. "Now!"

The twins shifted into Magpies and flew above everyone's head. After a few minutes Art was finally free and sprinted down the hall. He heard the cries of Fred and George and followed the sound. Entering the girls bathroom he saw Fred and George flying around a 12 foot tall grey troll. The troll was swinging his giant club at the twins. Harry, Ron and Hermione were watching them in terror.

"Move away!" Art yelled, taking out his wand.

The twins flew away and Art hit the troll in the eye with a stunning spell. The troll slumped to the ground, unconscious.

Fred and George shifted back and ran to Ron, making sure he was okay.

"Are you two okay?" Art asked, walking up to Harry and Hermione.

They nodded their heads, a little speechless. Their eyes were still on the troll. Art heard footsteps and saw McGonagall, Snape and Quirrell burst into the bathroom.

McGonagall stared at the six of them, rage covered her face. Snape bent over the troll and inspected it.

"What do you think you are doing!?" she seethed.

Art put his wand away while the twins walked to his side, shielding the other three. "We thought we could take the troll," Art looked at the troll, "we were right."

McGonagall looked like she was about to blow her top. Snape sneered at Art and looked over at Harry who was looking down at the floor.

"What about them?" Snape sneered, motioning towards the three behind him.

"Wrong place, wrong time." Art said, nonchalantly.

McGonagall looked over them, not believing the story. The twins and Art got detention but they didn't mind.
