Rise Of House Cason

Chapter 3 - The Delacours

The next few weeks went by in a blur. Amelia Bones brought over a trunk that was filled with books from the Cason library. Of course she didn't bring any restricted books for Art as he was too young to read them. She also told Tim that she was able to fix his wrongful discharge by altering his superiors memories. Tim asked just to change his record so his was discharged and not dishonourably discharged instead.

Another year flew by and Art started muggle school. He found their life fascinating and incredible on how they lived without magic. His teachers loved him and hailed him a prodigy, allowing him to skip a grade or two. Artland also read the books brought from his family's mansion, getting a better understanding of magic.

Though he promised Amelia not to use magic, he decided to try simple spells. Since he didn't have a wand, he had to use wandless magic. The book about wandless magic was difficult and complex but after a few weeks he was able to cast the Lumos spell. A light was produced at the tip of his finger, giving him a feeling of great accomplishment. This drove his ambition even further, spending hours in his room, trying to become more powerful. Although the Dark Lord was defeated, lots of his Death Eaters escaped which caused Art to feel the need to become powerful.

Even though he was a wizard he still practiced hand to hand combat everyday with Tim. Tim was very impressed with the young man as he was a quick study and excelled at everything he taught him. Bella continued to teach him French, saying that they would go to France in the future and wanted him not to be out of place. Though it was slow going at the beginning, Art eventually mastered the language. Bella also taught him first aid which Art found fascinating.

Amelia Bones stopped by every other week, checking in on Artland. Being the head of the Department of Magical Law Enforcement she was very busy but still made time for Art. She started to bring her niece, Susan, who also lost her parents to the Dark Lord and his Death Eaters. Artland showed her around and showed her muggle inventions like TV and fridges which she found incredible. Artland found himself acting like a big brother and liked the feeling.

Art was now 10 years old but he looked to be around 12. Tall with a lean body, he had a m.a.t.u.r.e air around him. All the a.d.u.l.ts that Tim and Bella introduced him to loved him and thought of him as the ideal child. His gold eyes added mystery to him and made him quite handsome. Art didn't slack on his studies either, mastering a handful of spells with wandless magic, although he felt like it wasn't enough. His physical training had evolved from hand to hand combat to combat with an array of weapons including; knives, swords, throwing knives and staffs. Tim had never seen such a gifted child in combat and felt more comfortable sending him to an unknown school knowing his skill in self defense.

Today they were flying to France to see Bella's parents, Art's grandparents. Tim parents had died years ago do to cancer leaving only Bella's parents. Boarding the plane made Art nervous but he tried to control his emotions. Bella grabbed his hand and silently reassured him it was alright. After a tense hour, they landed in Paris, France. Art was shocked at the beautiful architecture the city had. Bella quickly hailed a taxi and they loaded into it.

After giving the driver the address, the cab driver nodded and sped off. Soon they were outside of the city with beautiful rolling hills covering the countryside. They soon pulled up to a large mansion with a giant fountain in the front of the house. Art looked at Bella with a raised eyebrow, curious as to why she never told him that her parents were loaded. She ruffled his hair and paid the cabbie before getting out.

After exiting the cab they were greeted by two butlers who took their luggage and guided them into the house. Entering the house Art saw a huge chandelier that hung from the high ceilings and two set of stairs that led upstairs.

"The Lord and Madam are waiting in the backyard for you, young madam." one male butler said in french. They seemed to ignore Tim and Art completely.

Bella noticed this and gave a dirty look at the butler who didn't seem bothered by it. Tim bent down and whispered in Art's ear, "Her parents were mad when she married me, someone not a noble or rich."

Art had an understanding look on his face. 'It seems the wizard world and the muggle world aren't that different.'

They made their way to the backyard which was huge with a pool and a beautiful garden. An older couple were sitting by the pool, enjoying the sun. When they saw Bella they both got up and gave her a deep hug.

"Mom and dad, I would like you to meet my son, Artland." Bella introduced with a huge smile on her face, proud to call him her son.

The two of them focused their sights on Artland. They thought this boy was handsome but still looked down on him, not being their own blood.

"Hello Artland, I am Pierre Berger and this is my wife, Layla." Peirre said in french.

"Artland Cason, p.l.e.a.s.u.r.e to meet you. You have a beautiful house." Art replied in fluent french, shocking both of them.

Bella put her hand on his shoulder, beaming at him.

"Looks like you taught the child french." Pierre said grudgingly.

"Well he is an amazing child." Bella said proudly.

"I am sure HIS parents are proud of him." Pierre said, over pronouncing his.

Bella's face crumbled and an angry look appeared on her face. Just before she was about to respond Art interrupted her. "My parents are dead but your daughter and Tim saved me from dying. I will be forever in their debt." he said with a smile but his voice held an edge to it.

Tim placed his hand on Art's other shoulder, showing his support for his son. Bella seemed to calm down and guided Art back into the house. She showed him his room and said that her and Tim would be next door. The rest of the vacation went by in similar fashion, filled with tense conversations and hidden jabs at Tim and Artland. Of course Tim didn't bother to respond to them, not giving them the satisfaction.

On the last day, the Berger's had company. Art went downstairs and found four people talking to his 'grandparents'. Art immediately noticed the three girls among the group and he could only describe them as beautiful. Pale clear skin with long blonde hair and dark blue eyes. They mother could pass as an older sister but Artland knew that she was their mother.

"Oh… Art." Pierre seemed upset that Art had interrupted him and his guests. "Meet the Delacours. Mrs. Delacour this is… my daughter's adopted son, Artland Cason."

"Cason?" Mrs. Delacour asked surprised.

Art eyes narrowed, 'These people must be not muggles.'

"Yes sir. Did you know my parents, Todd and Sherry?" he asked in perfect french.

Mr and Mrs. Delacour eyes widened as they looked at Pierre and then back to Art. "We met once… your parents were great people and very kind to us." Mrs. Delacour said softly. She then turned towards Pierre, "Do you mind if we talk to your grandson alone for a few minutes?"

Although Pierre didn't like Art being called his grandson, he agreed and left them. After being left alone, Mrs. Delacour slowly walked up to him and gave him the once over. She smiled sweetly before saying, "You look like your father."

"Thank you. But I am curious on why you are here?" Art asked, knowing that high class wizards don't converse with muggles very much.

Mrs. Delacour shot a glare at her oldest daughter and said, "I'm afraid they saw Fleur riding a unicorn earlier today by accident and we came to change their memories."

Fleur flushed red before giving her mother a defiant look. Art nodded his head in understandment. "Is your home near here then?" he asked curious.

"Yes but hidden from muggle sight of course." she answered swiftly. "I must say even your french is very good. Did you mother teach you?"

Art nodded his head and noticed a curious gaze from Mrs. Delacour. "And yes they know I am a wizard." he answered her unasked question.

"That's great! Come meet my daughters. The older one is Fleur, she is the same age as you." Mrs. Delacour patted her head causing Fleur to give her a dirty look which she ignored. "This is Gabrielle, she is 4 years younger than you."

Gabrielle hid behind her mother's dress and peeked at Art who smiled and waved at her. This caused her to flush with embarrassment and hide her face.

"Are you staying in France much longer?" Mrs. Delacour asked.

"We are leaving today actually, Mrs. Delacour." he answered.

"Please call me Apolline. That is too bad. Next time come visit us at our home." she said sweetly before leaving.

The vacation was over after that as the Sullivans flew home the next day.
