Rise Of The Spatial Dragon

Chapter 13 - Clean slate

Flapping his wings his as he cruised across the skies, Dane was taking time to take a leisure walk. As he flew across the planet he loved the fact that it was so young. In fact, he realized he hadn't taken time to appreciate what a boon it was. Such a young world didn't even have a name, as the natives were not sophisticated enough to name it yet.

This was one of the joys. As the place he was planning to set up as his base of operations and the foundation for his faction, it was imperative that he built everything. Though this usually took time as there was no established culture or way of doing things, if he set it up such that HE was the one who designed the culture, the customs and traditions, he would be the one who controlled the most basic form of society, and hence the foundation of all the society. That was what it meant to totally dominate a planet.

First things first, he had to name it, and not just the planet, but the entire solar system, and while he was at it, he was also to name the star cl.u.s.ter, which was made up of the two stars acting as the two suns of the planets he was in. He also needed to carefully check the other planets and look for any signs of life in them, in such a large solar system, there were bound to be other planets that supported life, and they too would fall in his plans.

For the moment however, the name was the most important. For the next millions of years stretching to eternity, the name he would come up with here would be the one that would be used. He had to come up with a name that, above all else, raised his profile as founder, or at least as the person who discovered it.

He couldn't make it so obvious as a name, and any that he thought of were already taken. The Universe was a collection of planets and solar systems, hence most of the common names had already been used.

It was then that he remembered an encounter he had once, one that led him to an amazing love story with a mortal.

As a recognized member in one of the most powerful factions in the universe, he was extremely wealthy. He had access to all kinds of resources and treasures, and when it was suggested that he would be the next chancellor, these had only risen exponentially. As such he never lacked for anything.

Once he was on his personal spaceship when one of his engines failed. Moments later, the failure continued to expand to most of the components, and even the AI that ran the ship was failing as well. This was even worse for him since at the time, he was not powerful enough to be able to traverse space by just his body, and as the state of the spaceship continued to deteriorate, he realized he was facing certain death.

Luckily, the spaceship detected a planet on the fringes of a solar system, where he was able to set it down and do some basic repairs. However, his engineering skills were lacking, to say the least, and even then he couldn't be called a mechanic, so he only applied just the rudimentary repairs to keep it going till he could find a proper mechanic.

It took him 3 months in a planet that could barely support life to finish applying his fix, and when he finally did, it was barely an improvement of its quality conditions. The only saving grace was that the atmosphere of the planet was thin and hence him entering and leaving did not strain his atmospheric protector shields, which were just about the only thing remaining that wasn't fully compromised.

Finally, after 2 full galactic years of searching, Dane found a solitary artificial planet circling a small star. The star was also artificial, and it went to show that the owner of that world had actually created the star and the planet. Such a being must at the very least be a minor god, and once anyone acquired that tag as a god, they were considered individuals one must never offend.

Dane didn't need to make a fuss, so he just docked his space ship on a space station, which actually orbited around the planet. If any visitors needed to get to the planetary surface, they had to take ferries that moved people between the planet surface and the planetary space stations.

He had two options, to either buy a new space ship, or fix the one he had. Though buying a new one was easier, and he had the resources to do just that, he decided to fix the damn thing. However, throwing away a Denna-0102 was like a crime for any spaceship enthusiasts, which he was.

For starters, It was the first spaceship he ever had, and though it wasn't the most modern and flashy, the way it ran and its engines, they were a classic produced by the Denna Corporation, a company owned by the Maa faction. Denna Corp was renown for their attention to detail. It could be said that their sh.i.p.s were all hand made, no assembly line productions. This meant that every product was unique, and to have such a machine and then discard it, was tantamount to heresy.

Dane went to the planet surface to get a suitable mechanic, and that was when he stumbled on Isolde, the youngest daughter of Brom the sh.i.p.smith. In fact, his initial intention was to see Brom himself, but finding him engaged in matters involving the world owner, he chose to find an alternative.

That was when Isolde asked if she could take a look. Dane didn't have much faith in her abilities, but at least she couldn't be any worse than he was. He was also hoping to get some lessons from Brom, especially after recognizing how clueless he was in machinery handling. Thinking about it, if he could charm the daughter, then getting to the man would be easier. He just hoped she wouldn't mess up the machinery too much before the father got a chance to fix it.

Isolde proved her worth, and three days later, the ship was purring like a kitten. Dane had to swallow his thoughts especially after realizing that she not only fixed it, but she added several modules and upgraded the ones already there. Fascinated, Dane decided to extend his stay and actually asked Isolde if he could be her apprentice.

On her side, Isolde had been born with a natural talent with machinery. Of all her siblings, she was the one with the highest machinery affinity, which would lead to her awakening craft-based abilities if she worked hard enough.

The father had already taken her on as an apprentice, but given he was really just a sh.i.p.smith, she wanted to expand her horizon. She had machinery affinity, which meant that her repair skills were over the top, and she could absorb a blueprint after working on a machine for a period of time. What Dane didn't know was that at that time, she could produce a perfect replica of his ship after the 2 days of working on it.

Ever so shameless, Dane started flirting with his master, and while she acted all tough and domineering, belittling his machinery knowledge and affinities, she didn't know she was getting in a journey that would span across several galaxies.

After spending several years together, in which both awakened mechanical abilities, Dane proposed to Isolde, and in a wedding that was officiated by the world creator himself, after learning of Dane's status, the two were married.

A year later, after she had a bun in the oven, they announced that they were leaving the planet on an expedition. Dane had managed to convince her to follow him since he promised to help set up an galaxy wide corporation for her. Many of the inhabitants of the planet were sorry to see the two brightest mechanics in the planet leave, but they wished them well, mostly.

Isolde had lived to be 342 years, and in her death bed, the Soldane Corporation was the largest in the entire galaxy. Though their hiring standards were quite high, there never failed to be applicants since to be hired by such a corp, one would be said to be made. The prestige and the income served as a big motivator, and this only raised the profile of the corp.

The reason Dane remembered all this was because, once, in one of his and Isolde's pillow talks, they were discussing the names to give a planet and a solar system. Since she had been born in an artificial world, she wasn't foreign to the concept of world creation. To her, she had decided she'd name her world Endar, and if she was powerful enough to make a star, she'd call it Stareyes.

With fondness in his heart, he decided to fulfill this her wish, as a tribute to an amazing woman.

In this case, the planet was called Endar and the solar system would be called Stareyes. The two stars would get the name from the solar system. Part of the reason why he needed to name them as such was to establish authority and control. Giving a name to something showed control over it.

He wondered how she would think of the planet he'd used her names on. While she was quite liberal and didn't discriminate against species, he had been raised in a family with a proud heritage. It had been almost a taboo that had been instilled in him such that he could only take human females as wives.

Though he himself did not consider it racism as he could still work with other species and did not favor humans over other races, Isolde would mock him to no end. She'd been quite shocked when she discovered who he really was. Though Dane did not hide who he was, you don't just walk to a person and be like, "Hi, my name is Dane, and I am fated to be the second most powerful being on the planet."

Thinking back, Dane wondered which title he could use since he had many. He was angry that all that had been striped away due to something that he had no control over. Now, he had no titles, no faction and no friends. An outcast forced to solitude, and it would be a long time before he could have any peers, as mortals were really just too weak.

Dane's leisure flight ended up on a rock, where a certain lavel kid was chasing a black raven. The raven sunk into a murky cave and didn't come out.

The lavel was scared out of his mind, debating whether to follow in or not. He'd been just chasing it for fun, but now, the danger far outweighed the reward, after all, if all he wanted was a dead bird, there were plenty.

The lavel was in a similar situation as the planet since he too had no name.

The vasils would trade captured lavel kids as slaves to wealthy vasils or lavels that could afford such. These slaves would undergo a mind wiping process as they are inducted into their new status, however, the process only applied to an unnamed individual who must also not be above a certain power level.

The naming would be reserved as a right of the owner, as proof of ownership. Of course, trading in fully grown lavel slaves, one had to use the names given after the first mind wipe. This led to more individuals preferring to buy kids as opposed to fully grown a.d.u.l.ts, despite needing more resources to raise a slave child as opposed to buying an already grown slave.

He had managed to escape his shackles through a spectacular breakthrough. He too like his home planet, was a clean slate, and oh what amazing possibilities did he promise, after all, his ability was the one best suited to be a companion to a dragon.
