Rise Of The Spatial Dragon

Chapter 54 - The wrath of Kedan(END)

Horror.

Shock.

Fear.

While anyone of these words could be used to describe what the army was feeling, everyone one of them felt like an understatement. To everyone, there was a generally accepted set of normal conditions and constraints. Like there is a line where no one can cross.

When Kedan came out of the bloody pile of carcasses, he did not just broaden his opponents' horizons. He completely confounded their reality, overturning everything they had come to know as a reality. This could no longer be described as a paradigm shift.

Staring at the lone figure casually strolling in what was no longer a battlefield but a slaughterhouse, Kedan seemed unperturbed by all that happened. His walk, his gait, and even his demeanor remained the same. Yet there seemed to be an overbearing force that was weighing down on them.

On his part, Kedan could feel the change in attitude. While previously there had been pride and arrogance, now only fear reigned. Seeing this, not even Kedan, one of the more controlled Faction protectors, could hold back a smile. Dane was more adventurous, and he would be dancing while reaping lives in the city, wreaking havoc.

Moreover, Kedan knew that, no matter how much he shone, the humans will never be truly free unless they worked for their freedom. Freedom can never be gifted by anyone, it had to be fought for, earned. In the universe, might was right, and unless the humans showed that they have the might to retain their freedom, they will never truly be free. As such the humans themselves had to fight for their freedom.

The reason Kedan had gone to great lengths to show his power was primarily because he wanted to break the hierarchy of beings that existed in the continent. He wanted to show that humans were by no means inferior to other races; that they too could hold their own and even be incredibly overpowered. Beyond that, as a foreigner, he decided that he'd take on a minor role in the liberation of his beloved race.

That being said, he still had an army in front of him. Though they were no longer as formidable, their presence was a deterrent. There was room for one more spell before he was done with them.

One thing about Kedan was that he was at the Grade C level. Even the strongest beings in the continent were merely at Grade F+. This was partly due to a lack of proper knowledge, and a training curriculum. However, the biggest culprit would be the low mana levels of the planet. This meant that even the process of awakening was extremely rare, but so was the development. At least they had some mana concentration, there were many mortal worlds without any chance of awakening.

Due to the power level difference, the moment he turned his sights towards the city, it was as good as captured. Though he had decided that he'd go all out, he just couldn't, not because he didn't want to, there just wasn't any room for him.

Now as he walked towards the city, he had a wicked smile on his face. Oh were they in for a surprise.

In the dungeons.

Every human listening had heard the commotion. The movement of the wolves. At first, it had sounded overbearing, but that quickly changed. It even began to sound as if they were caught in a fight.

"It has to be an army!" One self-proclaimed commentator said.

"Where would he get an army, you nitwit?" Challenged another.

"Who said anything about him, he probably already died!"

"Hey!" Kayla.

"I'm just saying, maybe this is some army from another city-state of something or some ..."

"You weren't there when we were hunted by the wolves last time." Said by the respectable ship captain, even though he was looking ragged, these words carried some weight. "The man single-handedly took on an entire wolf pack!"

"There was more than one skipper!"

"What are you saying? Do you think all this is being done by one man?!" The conversation had gotten more and more people taking part, especially now that the guards had all left them to go to some fight. The moment this question was asked, everyone went quiet.

This was the question on everyone's mind. Could it be? Though their hearts told them that there was some hope, their minds refused to believe it. Even the die-hard believers in Kedan, such as Kayla, found it hard to believe in him. The previous speaker's words sounded more probable. Maybe this is some army attacking, or some ruckus that had nothing to do with them. Or, maybe it is their boy Kedan, coming to rescue them, all the while bringing vengeful retribution to all who dared mess with the human race.

In their silence, they noticed the sound of footsteps. Someone was descending the stairs leading to the dungeon. The footsteps were firm, confident. The kind that makes you want to look up and see what or who's walking by.

From the darkness and into the light. Kedan emerged as an angel of light, holding a black trident. Okay, maybe he was more like a demon, but they didn't care. Rather, they were too shocked to care.

Kedan then proceeded to use his trident to break the locks in the cells of the dungeon, and everyone was set free.

"Follow me." He didn't need to say this, but he had to get people moving.

Joyce, who was now in a much better state, observed something about this mysterious savior. He didn't seem hurried at all. All this time, he had been taking his time, as though they were in his back yard, not in some dungeon stealing the would-be slaves.

Many were anxious to get away, but Kedan insisted that everyone must be accounted for. This included the wounded, the weak, the elderly and the women and children. Of course, Kedan's lack of haste was noticed by many, some even concluding that he was stalling for time. They were again proven wrong since, as soon as everyone was ready to move, he led them out.

This was when reality began to seep in their minds. With the realization came horror, and fear was evident in many of the eyes. Some didn't even believe what they were seeing.

The first encounter with a wolfkin was the guards outside the dungeon. They were lying flat on the ground, unmoving. This was not that shocking right, except for the fact that their eyes were wide open, and they looked as though they wanted to communicate but were unable to move.

This was all well and good, but the fear began when they realized that there were more and more lying on the ground flat. As they walked towards the gate, they never saw anyone standing.

It should have been a ghost town, rather, it would have been, except for the fact that there were live bodies everywhere one looked. Granted, in the city, due to military mobilization, it was a ghost town, but out here in the fringes of the west gate, things were different. For starters, there were a lot of soldiers lying all over. They seemed to have been caught in some activity, while some had even fallen on their weapons.

As they walked towards the gate, they found the formations of the army. Thing is, all of them were lying on each other, some even seemed to have maimed one another with their weapons. It was pretty horrifying to see this, but that was not all.

After successfully, and fearfully managing to wade through the living and recently dead bodies, they came upon an incredible sight. Rows of dead gigantic wolves, each one more than capable of ripping apart more than 10 men without breaking a sweat. Yet they all lay there looking very dead!

Once they were clear, they finally saw the gates. There were a few soldiers and guards lying around all over the place. Yet it was here Kedan chose to stop.

He'd sent a doppelganger to retrieve the hostages, but since he didn't want to blow their minds too much, he discreetly merged with his doppelganger before speaking.

"There lies the gate, wide open. If you want to leave, feel free to. But, I was thinking, why not help ourselves to some treasures?" That last bit was said with some hint of mischief. The grin looked like a demon's grin, causing more fear than greed.

There seemed to be a tacit agreement with his suggestion. Rather, no one dared to disagree with him. He quickly arranged the people. The weak and the unable would not be going for the loot of course, but everyone else was quickly placed into 10 groups. Each of the 10 groups had a commander, and naturally, Joyce was at the helm.

Each group was given a spatial trinket to contain the weight of up to 2 tonnes. They were then dispersed. As the mob dispersed, Kedan took the time to tend to the wounded. With his abilities, mending a wound was ad easy as zipping it up.

Kedan's final spell had been one that had developed for over 100 years. It was truly vicious, especially when used on a battlefield. This was because of its ability to incapacitate the enemies, especially if the enemy is a mortal.

Kedan's ability was centered around control over the laws of attraction. One of the most powerful laws of attraction available in the universe is, of course, Gravity. Kedan's mastery over this force was so intricate that he could increase the force at which it applied over someone, essentially, changing their weight.

Weight, as defined in physics, is the force exerted on a body by gravity. If the force of gravity is increased, then one's weight is also increased. For the mortals, Kedan had simply tripled the force, tripling their weight. For super, he had made the force to be 5 times the norm. Their power was unequipped to handle that much weight.

Using Gravitational sense, which was extended to the entire city, Kedan could monitor everyone in it. He could even pick out individuals and tell their species apart. The spell he had cast specifically targetted all wolf kind in the cities. Sadly, even dogs weren't spared.

One of the benefits of having a skill, one could deploy it as a formation. The formation would function as an application, running itself under a specific set of instructions. The larger the formation, the larger the reach, but also, the more it could consume. With Kedan's ability, he could keep this formation he had put up running for over a week.

All this and still Kedan did not break a sweat. This was the power of a Faction Protector, a Grade C Super who's attacks can bring about calamity grade destruction. At the level of earthquakes and hurricanes. What was a city in the face of absolute power? He may not seem so strong among his peers, but among mortals, he was well above their reach.

Sadly, all good things much come to an end. Kedan had had a fun day, and as it drew to an end, he led the group of humans back to the Resistance settlement. The group had grown considerably larger, as all the humans who were in the city had joined in during the looting and then the exit.

For the humans present, this was a day they would never forget. The day that changed not only their lives but also the fate of generations for millennia to come. A day that saw unbeatable monsters suffer a severe beating from just one man. The day that the impossible was made possible.

Yet none of that seemed to matter once they made the deduction. Those that had been at the lake could testify without a doubt, the expert had swum into the lake, and had disappeared as the quest stipulates. There was no other way around it.

Could it be that the Quest had been completed? Had the expert done what had been said to be impossible? Looking at the resolute figure ahead, many couldn't help but shudder at the power the man had shown so far.
