Rise Of The Spatial Dragon

Chapter 55 - Response from all sides

It was a cool afternoon. One of those where the sun wasn't too hot cause the cloud cover was just right. Inside one of the more spacious rooms in the big castle, there were 3 women, each engrossed in their activity while simultaneously having a lazy conversation.

The room they were in looked more like an observatory, and from their vantage point, they could see all the castle grounds. Truthfully, calling it a castle would be a severe understatement. The mansion extended over an area equivalent to a big city. It had large halls, auditoriums, arenas and living quarters. It could hold up to 1,000,000 people and still have room.

From their vantage point, the women could see the entire grounds, and given their administrative positions, they had this privilege. Right now they were relaxing after a routine mission. There hadn't been much excitement recently, so they could afford to take things easy.

When the communicator rang, neither woman reacted. It wasn't a call but a message, but it glowing amber, which meant that it was a priority 3 message. This was probably the start of another long boring investigative mission that no one wanted.

"Is anyone going to get that?" One asked.

"Why don't you do it?"

"Fine you lazy asses!"

Saying so, one of them reached for the communicator through telekinesis and activated the message.

"Shannara, I think this is your kind of mission." She said after she was done reading through.

"Haha, why?" Came the reply.

"One of the faction protectors we have on the watch list is ... misbehaving. We are tasked with investigating his intentions."

"Boring! I'll pass!" Shannara shouted.

"Cool your titties, I'm not finished! This isn't just some ordinary Faction protector." These words were said as she was handing Shannara the communicator with a knowing smile on her face.

"Alright fine I'll take it." Blushing, Shannara said once she saw who it was she was to investigate.

"Who is it?" The third person in the room finally spoke.

"Do you even need to ask?"

"Kedan?"

"Who else?"

"Oh shut up you 2!" Shannara said as she stomped out of the room, leaving behind 2 girls giggling like teenagers even though they were thousands of years old.

"I see trouble is brewing in one of my planets."

Very rarely did Great God Jason make a personal appearance. Usually, he had servants who were devoted to doing his bidding, but on this occasion, he was there presently.

Standing next to him were 2 other individuals. One was his tall and beautiful daughter, the other was a slightly shorter and stockier man. The three were standing on a cloud, and though it was night time and pitch dark, they could see everything.

"Sir, this is a serious breach of trust by the faction protector. He must be punished..." The Man's outburst was stopped by Jason's casual wave of his hand.

"It's never that serious. This is an invitation to play. You should see this as an opportunity, go and earn the title of Wolf god you so proud of." After thinking for a moment, he turned to his daughter and said, "you're to go with him, learn the ropes."

"But Father, am I to fight against him?" She asked.

The look her Father gave her made her want to eat back her words, too bad she couldn't. "Worry not, you can go give him fair warning."

Down below, the people napping did not know of the visitation in the night. It had been an eventful day, and now, weary and worn out, they had passed out soon after getting to the camp.

There was one who guessed something like this would happen. Looking up at the night sky, he wondered what trouble he had attracted to himself this time. Such massive action could not lay unnoticed, especially on such a planet.

However, this was all per his designs. He knew that there was no way he would be able to conceal his movements, so he decided to give himself an excuse. Kedan understood that this was partly the reason why Dane had placed him on such a planet. What baffled him was how he had pulled it off. How would he have known that there would be a disaster of such magnitude?

By now, it was already public knowledge that he'd completed the Quest, and the information had reached far and wide. While at the moment other city-states were quite a threat to the humans as is, the real threat would not come from the planet. There were just too many interested parties on the planet for his actions to go unnoticed.

All that would have to be sorted out the following day, for now, he could just enjoy his own company. The mortals were fast asleep, and all he could do now was walk the grounds like a phantom. As he was about to leave his tent, he felt a presence.

It was faint and had he not activated Gravitational Sense, he wouldn't have felt it. Someone was definitely in the room with him. Usually, when u find yourself in such a situation, the first step is always to assess the situation. Kedan did so.

His first thought had been that this was an attack. Logically though, it couldn't be. Though there were many forms of conjuration, the most harmless was self-projection. As the name suggests, one could be able to project themselves to allow others to see what they intended.

To do this, one had to be at least a Grade D super. Secondly, they needed to be very well practiced in either Light element or Mental Manipulation. These 2 elements were directly involved in illusions, only there was one major difference.

The light element could make people see what the caster wanted to see by shaping the light being perceived by the watcher to transmit the image the caster wants. The Mental Manipulation works with the brainwaves to alter whatever was perceived to look like what the caster d.e.s.i.r.es.

While both attained the same results, only one could cause gravitational disruption at the scale Kedan could be able to notice. Kedan knew of only one person who was practiced enough to play with light to that extent, and he had met her recently.

"Hey Astrid, what brings you here?"

Once she was discovered, she didn't bother hiding. Astrid also noticed that both the Faction Protectors she had met had never once disappointed. They were powerful beyond imagining. How could someone detect her presence when she was casting an illusion? Especially considering that she was miles away from the illusion. They truly deserved their position in their factions and the universe.

"I've come to warn you." She said as she took on her shape. She had extended some minor disruptions with the light, nothing visible, just enough to transmit the sounds to her. "The wolf god is on the move, with Father's guidance."

"So he finally makes his appearance, I didn't know he was close to Great God Jason though."

"How else do you think Father would allow him to work on his planet. I don't have a lot of time, so I'll be quick, the wolf god has also been given an assistant."

"Who?"

"You're looking at her."

"You sure you came to warn me, or spy on me?"

"I am allowed to do both!"

"Not, leave now!"

"Is this the thanks I get for being such a good double agent?"

"Problem is, I don't know which side you on."

"How can you say that?" This was said in mock sorrow, as she drew closer to Kedan seductively.

"I am not falling for that. If you were here with your real body ..." Saying that Kedan chased her away. He used a special skill to create a barrier around the Resistance, essentially shielding them from external monitoring.

At first, dude was apprehensive. He had just won a major victory, so why would some god come out of nowhere and start interfering with his sweet victory. Upon further deliberation, he realized that things could not have been better. Now he had some reason and a narrative to remain on the planet, he could go about his main business unperturbed.

There was one anomaly though, someone he had not taken into consideration had just entered into the picture, the wolf god.

All this while, Dane had never really had much in the way of peers. As someone who was used to being at the top all the time, he knew just how lonely it got. This did not deter this overachiever in any way, but in times when he found himself needing company, he marveled at how far ahead he was.

Since he couldn't find an equal, he was mostly a student to those seeking to mentor peerless geniuses, or a teacher seeking to mentor those he deemed worthy.

If ever there was a time he felt most cut off, it was when he was banished. Not only did he face severe rejection from everything and everyone he valued, but he also lost all his heritage, his claim to his inheritance and even his companions. Cast out like unwanted garbage.

He had been bitter. Far bitter than he even cared to admit. All this time he had put on a facade of indifference, but it hurt, it severely hurt to have everything you've worked for snatched from you.

Thinking back, he realized that since he left the civilizations behind, he had not taken the human form. It was as if he had instinctively accused it of being responsible for his mishaps. If he had been born a dragon from the start, he wouldn't have lost it all.

All through he had moved in his dragon form. He presented himself as a dragon, fierce and strong! without needing anyone. Yet humans were community-based beings. They needed to exist in a community. While his consciousness wouldn't break from all that alone time, sooner or later he would have to find someone to talk to.

The lavels and the vasils had received him with open arms. Looking at Maple and Karri, who were in a fierce training match, he couldn't help but marvel how far they had progressed. These were the same weak and uncoordinated being he had met, and though there were not that many changes that happened, the ones that had happened were qualitative.

The civilization was now on the right track. Everything seemed set. This was a moment Dane had been dreading. The time had come for him to face the demons of his past.

Krea noticed the look of despondency in Kendar's eyes. It wasn't just her though, everyone around the training grounds could feel it. One thing about beings at that level, they could influence the elementary particles even involuntarily, especially in cases where emotions ran wild.

Due to his feeling, the entire world seemed to be colder than usual, devoid of any excitement. As she watched him leave, she wondered what could have affected such a powerful lavel. Since most of the lavels that awakening their power were of the younger generation, they viewed Kendar as an older grandpa. Seeing him so affected by some unknown reason caused a stir in many.

As Kendar walked away from the group, he started his transformation. The wrinkles seemed to flatten. The coarse fur to change to soft skin. His bent back straightened and his mane transformed into his hair.

In front of a big mansion which was in another part of Dane's world stood a young man. Handsome and striking does not even begin to describe him. Tall, extremely well built, almost as though his body was carved rather than born. Taking a deep breath, he reached for the door and walked in.

Dane had received word that Kedan had already unlocked the second part of the verification process. Dane himself knew that it was probably some fool going around unlocking his treasurers, but if that was the case, there was nothing he could do. He wanted to check for himself that this was indeed his brother who's actions were sending him countless messages, but to do so, he had to be Dane the human again.
