Ron Weasley: A Noble's Ascension

Chapter 16 - Ginny's Giant Check

Today was one of the best days to be a Weasley, it all started when Ron, the twins and Ginny begged their mom to go back to the Arcade. She wanted to decline but since their father had the day off and he also supported the idea, she gave in and the five went.

-

As they were entering the Arcade, Ron made sure that Ginny who was wearing a blue ribbon he'd given her was in front of the group.

Then an Arcade employee blew a Party Popper filled with confetti and handed Ginny a giant check for 25,000Pounds. His parents weren't sure of what was happening and even thought that they were being tricked. So his mom began to berate the employee with questions.

"What's going on here! Why did you give my daughter that giant piece of cardboard!? I'll have you know that we don't want no part in this!"

"Ma'am, please calm down. I'm the manager of this Arcade please let me explain."

As the employee became increasingly nervous by Molly's interrogation, a dark skinned young man stepped foward and explained that due to this being their 25th year anniversary they were going to gift 25,000p to a lucky customer who just so happened to be Ginny.

"So you're telling me that all this money is for us? No strings attached?"

"That's right ma'am, of course if you'd like, you can return the check and we'll choose someone else."

That was the moment that Arthur stepped up and told his wife that they shouldn't look a gift horse in the mouth and kindly accepted the check. Although Molly was still a bit suspicious, when no one was looking she checked the man to see if he was under a spell but couldn't find anything.

"*Maybe I'm just over thinking things, besides Lord knows we could use the money.*"

Now counting with that money their dad allowed everyone to play several games at the Arcade and bought them several comic books.

-

Later that day when his father took Ginny to exchange the check for Galleons, and Ron and the twins returned home with their mother. Another surprise was waiting for them, specificity for Ron, because a letter from Daphne had arrived.

"Ah, look mom a letter from the friend I told you about!"

His mom didn't even listen to him as she grabbed the letter, and read the senders name, Daphne Greengrass.

"Greengrass! Ron you made friends with the Greengrass girl!?"

As his mom was in shock and his brothers were making kissing noises behind him, Ron took the letter and opened it.

"*Dear, Ronald Bilius Weasley.

I write this letter for the purpose of inviting you to the Greengrass manor. I've spoken with my father and he's agreed to you taking the position of my Potions Tutor. He's also very eager to have a conversation with you over a cup of tea. We'll be waiting for your response by owl.

° Sincerely, Daphne Greengrass.*"

Ron was expecting this type of response so it was no big deal to him but to his mother It was as if the world was coming to an end. It was public knowledge that most if not all of the families that made up the Sacred Twenty Eight felt disdain towards them. Yet now one of those same families wanted her son to teach Potions to their daughter.

"Ron, tell me everything, what exactly happened?"

Ron knew that his mother was worried for him, and deservedly so if not for his outstanding talent Daphne and her father would never look his way.

"Mom, you know what happened at the Greengrass's party, about my match with Draco? Well Daphne saw that match and asked me to help her out. That's it."

Before his mom could continue asking questions his dad and Ginny came back with big smiles.

"Mollywobbles! We made it! 5,000 Galleons! Can you believe it!? We'll be able to pay off most of our debts and have several left over!"

Hearing such great news everyone burst out into cheers even Ron, who was glad that he was able to help out his family. Though he quickly began to think how he could gain Aster's support and make more.

-

That evening after excusing himself from dinner and letting the twins borrow his comics Ron locked himself in his room. He made sure to lock his door before opening his red bag and taking out the four books he'd bought from Burgin and Burkes.

Three days ago he started reading them but he still wasn't even close to to finishing even one of them.

Unlike many of the other books he'd read, the three "Nornal" books dealt with very different and difficult subjects memories, barriers and mind traps.

As for the "Special" book that was supposed to belong to Salazar Slytherin he wasn't even able to open the damn thing.

"Hopefully it's like the chamber of secrets and needs a Parselmouth to open it. Because if it doesn't I'm going to burn down that f.u.c.k.i.n.g shop."

That night Ron read until his eyes were almost closing by themselves, the good thing was that he made good progress in Occlumency. After a few tries he was able to erect a few weak barriers in his mindscape, that made him happy because it meant he was one step closer to his goal.

Due to not having anyone to practice on he wasn't able to make any progress in Legilimency. Then he thought back to those wannabe mobsters and had a great idea, he could use others like them as practice dummys.

"*Guess I'll go see James after the tutoring lessons at the Greengrass's.*".
