Ron Weasley: A Noble's Ascension

Chapter 20 - Bill's New Job

After a prolonged goodbye with the Greengrass's, Ron and his mother returned home. Not surprising, her first words were about how he accepted to work for Aster without telling or even asking them.

"Ron, what was all that about!? What did he mean that he's glad you accepted to work for him? Work in what!? What did he promise you!? And why am I only hearing about this now!?"

"Mom, I accepted to work for Mr. Greengrass so I could learn more about the inner workings of the Wizarding World, that's all. I didn't tell you about it because I didn't think it was such a big deal."

"So that talk about your engagement to his daughter is that also not a big deal? Does he know that, what about her?"

With those two sentences the seemingly quite Weasley household burst into conversation,

(Bill his eldest brother had come back home while the twins had already started school.)

His father and brother almost choked while his little sister acted as if she was puking.

"Mom, it's not like that. I made it perfectly clear to Aster that I wouldn't get engaged to Daphne. Can't we just forget about me and congratulate Bill on his new job?"

Bill had gotten hired as a curse breaker for Gringotts last year and had just been recently assigned to go to Egypt.

"It's okay Ron, I'd also like to know more about you and this Daphne."

Thanks to his apathetic nature, Ron was able to circ.u.mvent the teasing and pranks of his brothers. So whenever they had the chance they'd try to get him to break, case and point Bill not wanting to change the subject.

"Dad, little help here?"

Before his father could speak on his behalf, his mother cut him off because he'd always sided with Ron.

"No, Arthur you can't help him out now! He needs a punishment, he can't go around making shady deals with people."

Ron couldn't help but sigh, because he knew that he wasn't going to get away from this one.

"Fine, what'll it be?"

Seeing no way out he'd rather give up and get the punishment underway, it wasn't like she beat him or anything of that nature. The worst thing she'd done to him was spank him but even that wasn't serious.

"You're going to go with me and your sister to buy her new clothes..."

That was not what he was expecting, the person he'd least spoke to was his sister, and that was with her being home with him almost every day. He was about to ask how that was a punishment, but she cleared it right away.

"And you're paying, with the money you got from that Brewing Competition."

"Sure..."

"*I guess she thinks that making me spend that prize money will make me think about my actions, but that short amount is nothing to me, at least not anymore.*"

Having settled that problem he sat down with his father and Bill to talk about his new job in Egypt.

"Bill, I've read that many of the Egyptian Tombs contain Ancient and powerful magical artifacts. Are those the ones you'll be working on?"

"There are some like that, but most of the ones I'll be working on are much smaller and safer Tombs."

"Oh, I see..."

Making his remark as disappointing as he could, Ron got what he wanted a quick response by his brother.

"Of course that's only for right now, once I've gotten a bit more experience I'll take on those Ancient Tombs."

" Really, then when you find one can you write me about it? I'd love to learn more about Ancient Tombs."

Glad that he'd salvaged his cool older brother image, Bill agreed to inform Ron when he worked on an Ancient Tomb.

"*Hopefully by the time that Bill works on one, I'll have some knowledge about Ancient Curses and Runes. I wouldn't mind going treasure hunting.*"

-

That night Ron took out his books on Mind Arts, he'd already finished them but he still decided to go over some things he didn't fully understand.

"*It says here that it's theorized that you can twist someone's perception of reality with realistic visions. I know that Voldy was able to but whenever I try to implant anything inside someone's mind it's quickly erased. So what am I doing wrong?*"

*Sigh*

"*Guess next time I go to London, I'll have something to work on.*"

-

Early the next morning he was woken up by his mother's screaming, because she'd already made breakfast and he hadn't come down yet. This wasn't anything new since Ron would stay up late reading or going over what he'd learned but it still wasn't a nice way of waking up.

"RON! BREAKFAST!

"GOING!"

Groggily walking downstairs he noticed that Bill wasn't, he looked over to his mom who told him that he'd already left. His dad had gone to work as well leaving just him with his mother and sister.

"Ginny, are you all set up? Once Ron's finished eating well be leaving."

"Yes, mom..."

When Ron changed his appearance, he'd also offered it to his siblings and parents who didn't accept all but Ginny. She wanted to take the Beautification Potion, but their mother didn't allow her to because when new Potions are made there might be hidden side effects. So they'd reached a compromise that after Ron fully tested the Potion and she grew up, she'd let her take it.

Shortly after that the relationship between Ginny and their mom became strained. Ron even though that this shopping trip was his mom's idea to cheer up his little sister.

"Mom, are we going to Diagon Alley?"

"Yes, now start eating so we can be on our way"

"I'm going, sheesh."

"What was that!?"

"Nothing."

Afraid that she'd start berating him again he shut up and quickly ate.

-

Finished eating and getting dressed Ron went downstairs again ready to leave, he'd worn some new black robes he bought with his "Prize Money" and looked quite dashing. What helped was that he had a tall lean frame, almost crimson hair and walked with confidence.

"Ron I've told you to keep those new robes for a special occasion."

"What for mom? I'll just buy more, what's the big deal?"

*Sigh*

"Fine come on, get your Floo Powder."

Although his mom didn't like that he spent money on clothes, she wouldn't argue with him over it since he bought them himself. His parents didn't like entitled snobs but they knew that he'd "worked" for his money so they'd let it slide.

Ron grabbed a handful of the powder, entered their chimney and threw the powder down while stating the d.e.s.i.r.ed location.

"Diagon Alley!"

Then the powder burst into green flames that engulfed him before he vanished.
