Ron Weasley: A Noble's Ascension

Chapter 48 - Flying Class

Early the next day, Ron exited the Room of Requirements, with an exhausted and annoyed expression on his face. It was a rare occurrence yet his failure to acquire any new information on Curse Breaking last night bothered him deeply.

"* Is there no way to break that bald asshole's curse!? The best solution would be to wear the Diadem and invite him inside my Mind Space and defeat him there. Which is lunacy, why would I want that Psycho's soul fragment anywhere near me, but then again what other choice do I have!?*"

*Sigh*

"* No, it's still to soon for me to surrender, there must be a way I'm sure of it. In the case that there isn't one then, I'll first ask the Grey Lady before I wear the Diadem.*"

-

Since the sun had yet to rise, Ron went back to the Ravenclaw Common Room to make it seem as if he'd just awakened. The Bronze Knocker was the most annoying part of the Ravenclaw Common Room but it was much more reassuring than simply having a portrait guard like the other houses.

" Which came first the Phoenix or the Flame?"

Without skipping a beat Ron continued walking and right as he was about to reach the door answered.

" A circle has no Beginning."

" Correct."

Not having to wait as soon as he reached the door it was already opened. As it was still dawn the entire Common Room was deserted, feeling bored and tired he went up to the boy's Dormitory.

Even though he'd chosen the room two day's ago, Ron had yet to change anything so his room looked exactly the same as when he arrived.

The bed was covered in sky blue silk eiderdowns, there was two night stands, one large wardrobe, and a desk with a blue upholstered armchair.

The walls and curtains were also in the same matching blue color, making the room look as if it had been drenched in blue paint.

When Ron opened his door he stopped at the doorway and took a long look at the room.

" I'll change it later..."

Reaching his bed he jumped on top of it and fell asleep.

-

*Knock*

*Knock*

"* Damn it, did I oversleep!?*"

Jumping out of bed Ron dashed to the door and answered it, unexpectedly the person who'd knocked was Anthony.

*Click*

" Good Morning Anthony, what brings you to my room?"

" Um Good Morning Ron, Daphne asked me to check if you were still sleeping, she and Hermione are waiting for you down in the Common Room."

"* It's still morning so that's good. I'd hate to miss today's first class.*"

" Thank you, Anthony. Could you tell them I'll be down in a minute?"

" Sure, see you later then."

" Good Bye."

After a quick change of clothes and a cleaning spell Ron walked out of his room and made sure to lock it before making his way down to the Common Room.

-

The reason Ron was looking forward to today's first lesson was because it was Flying Class with Madam Hooch.

What many people may not know except his family was that Ron had never ridden a broom before. He'd never placed any importance to the skill since he would rather learn Apparition or to Fly without a broom.

All of his brothers excelled in riding and even his oldest brother Bill had offered to teach him but due to research into his Hallucination Potion Ron declined.

Now he had a chance to learn something he was completely oblivious to, filling him with excitement and nervousness.

"* This is a rare opportunity for me, since flying was a subject I'd originally planned to ignore.*"

Standing outside in an open courtyard, Madam Hooch had the Ravenclaw's and Hufflepuff's stand next to one of the brooms laying on the ground.

As they were doing so, Daphne made sure to be next to Ron while Hermione stood several spots down. Ron looked towards her, catching her staring at him before quickly turning around.

" Alright! Now I want you to stick out your right hand over your broom, and say, Up!'"

" UP"

The old broom next to Ron broom leapt into his hand at once in a single motion. Daphne also successfully called up to her broom, but when Ron turned to Hermione hers simply rolled on the ground.

" Daphne."

Understanding what he meant, Daphne walked over to Hermione while Ron spoke to Madam Hooch about the brooms.

-

" Daph, I can't, It's not working. I've done exactly what she said but all I've been able to do is make it roll on the floor."

" Mion, don't worry most Muggle Borns have trouble with brooms at first. All you have to do is clear your mind and have confidence. Don't think about anything else just imagine the broom in your hand when you summon it."

" Okay."

Taking her advice, Hermione closed her eyes, cleared her mind, and slowly exhaled before summoning the broom.

" UP!"

" Daph, did I do it?"

Afraid to open her eyes to see her failing again, she asked her friend to tell her of the outcome.

" You did it, Mion! You did it!"

Hearing Daphne confirm it, Hermione opened her eyes and happily hugged her.

" Thank you Daph. Thank you!"

" Don't mention it, besides it was Ro-"

" Miss. Greengrass, Miss. Granger if you two are done celebrating let me continue with the class."

" Sorry, Professor."

" Sorry."

-

Madam Hooch then showed them how to mount their brooms without sliding off the end, and walked up and down the rows correcting their grips.

" Perfect, Ronald. I'd not expect less from you since most of your brothers have been in the Gryffindor Quidditch Team."

" Thank you, Professor."

"* Did the old man inform the Professors to address me as Ronald? So he doesn't want me to use the same excuse as last time.*"

"Now, when I blow my whistle, you kick off from the ground, hard, Keep your brooms steady, rise a few feet, and then come straight back down by leaning forward slightly. On my whistle -- three -- two-- One!"

*PIII*

Waiting for this moment, Ron squinted his eyes and in an instant blew past everyone and soared into the open sky.

"* This is actually fun!!!*"
