Ron Weasley: A Noble's Ascension

Chapter 6 - Diagon Alley

Walking out of the Leaky Cauldron Ron looked at the packed street in front of him and he almost couldnt believe it. If not for the fact that he'd already been in this world for more than five years he honestly would've thought he was dreaming.

All sorts of people were walking on a cobbled street that twisted and turned out of sight. He turned his head in every direction as they walked up the street, trying to look at everything at once: the shops, the things outside them, the people doing their shopping. There were shops selling robes, shops selling telescopes and strange silver instruments, windows stacked with barrels, piles of spell books, quills, rolls of parchment, and potion bottles.

His father noticed that he seemed overwhelmed so he grabbed his hand and led him and his brothers towards a white building. Standing beside it was a uniformed Goblin, who seemed straight out if he movies. It was about a head shorter than him, had a swarthy, clever face, a pointed beard, very long fingers and feet. Looking at the second pair of doors he saw the famous warning.

Enter, stranger, but take heed

Of what awaits the sin of greed,

For those who take, but do not earn,

Must pay most dearly in their turn.

So if you seek beneath our floors

A treasure that was never yours,

Thief, you have been warned, beware

Of finding more than treasure there.

"*Gringotts...*"

Heading inside they came to a long and vast marble hall where numerous goblins were sitting on high stools behind a long counter, scribbling in large ledgers, weighing coins in brass scales, and examining precious stones through eyeglasses. There were too many doors to count leading off the hall, and yet more goblins were showing people in and out of them. His father told them to wait while he walked up to an open counter.

His father then motioned them to follow him and they walked behind him and went through one of the doors. Inside a narrow stone passage way another goblin was waiting for them alongside a small cart that came hurtling up the tracks toward them. They climed in and when he expected it to be like a rollercoaster ride, it was more like fast drop since they'd reached their vault in matter of seconds.

Only his father entered and came out as quickly as he entered then they were on their way up again. To him it all felt anticlimactic there were no mountains of gold or shining gems only a c.h.e.s.t in the middle which his father opened and closed quickly. Ron felt that this life might be harder than he'd expected so he mentally sighed and tried to think positive.

"*I just need to focus on my magic, unlike many others I'm actually a pureblood so as long as I play my cards right I can get out of this.*"

Lately he thought about using his status as a Pureblood to help with his family's financial situation. Sure his parents disliked using it and hated those who did, but he had big dreams and aspirations which he couldn't fulfill without money and resources.

"*Hogwarts will be where I can grow the fastest but until then I need to learn as much as I can.*"

As they were making their way out of the Vaults, they came face to face with the Weasleys nemesis, the Malfoys. The father son pair looked almost identical, pale, sleek blond hair, and ice grey eyes. While they all had their trademark red hair and freckles.

"Come to take out your remaining Knuts and Sickles Weasley?"

Ron noticed that his father had balled up his fist but didn't act on his anger. Instead he insulted the blond right back.

"And You? Come to take out more Galleons for that stupid haircut?"

Weirdly enough Lucius turned red and shot them a glare before stomping away. Ron noticed that Draco did tye same but that didn't bother him, he was of no importance to him.

"*I wonder how he'll act when I show everyone how much of a genius I am, not like those Death Eater guys who... Oh Shit.*"

As he was about to mock the Death Eaters he remembered the rat that his brother Percy had taken in a few years back. He'd been so preoccupied with his learning and reading that he'd completely forgotten about the fake rat. Just thinking that he left it behind with his mother and sister he became enraged, the only thing that calmed him was knowing that his brother always kept it in his cage.

"*Thank you Lucius, you helped me remember something very important.*"

Now he had another problem how to deal with that fake rat bastard hiding in his home.

"*Do I cast Revelio on him while mom and dad are home? No, even thought he's weak he could still hurt someone. I can't contact the authorities since they're useless... Guess that only leaves me one choice.*"

They returned home a hour later thanks to there not being many people buying cauldron this time of year, and his constant nagging to go home. That annoyed his father and brothers but it was necessary, once they got back he went up to his room and locked himself inside again.

"Really what will we do with him? He kept begging to go, yet when we got there he kept whining to come back."

Hearing her husbands words Molly couldn't help but sigh, she knew that Ron wasn't like any of her other children. Although Bill, Charlie and Percy cared for their studies, they weren't obsessed with it like Ron.

"*I really don't know who he takes after, neither I or Arthur were ever that engrossed in learning. Hopefully he learns to open up to people more and make friends.*"

Up in his room Ron sat down on his bed and blankly stared at the ceiling. He wasn't sure if his plan would work but he couldn't just sit around and let the rat bastard use his family like a shield. He knew that once he received his wand he'd have better control over his magic and his plan would go without a problem, but how could he possibly let some 40 year old murderer live with his family.

"*Tomorrow, I'll do it then.*"
