RWBY: Fireborn

Chapter 13 - 13 A Busy day

Five months later...

Logan could be seen sitting at his desk, mumbling over a large drawing in a notebook. He looked stressed as he gazed at the notebook. Frustrated, he drops the pencil he was holding and grabbed his hair in annoyance. The drawing was of his c.h.e.s.t-plate of his armor, currently it didn't contain any of the enhancements he had originally designed. It was a hollow shell of what it could be. Around his room was scattered bits and pieces he scavenged from a junkyard. Tai knocked and brought his attention to him.

Tai: "I heard you mumbling in the hall. What's so wrong that's it got you into a bind?"

Logan: "Its just that a lot of my prototypes won't be able to fit into my armor. Right now, I'm working on the dust shield generator, trying to get it to fit my c.h.e.s.t-plate. So far I have it integrated in theory, but the power source is to large for it."

Tai looked around the room, in almost six months, Logan became the talk of the near by town. It started by Tai introducing Logan to the local junkyard owner, what was suppose to be small pieces here and there, became that he took what he wanted with permission and reason. He even set up a workshop there. What stated with simple yard ornaments for sale, became tools, armor, bikes... Logan surprised everyone. Logan helped everyone who needed it, he even gave a child pickpocket a second chance, and now the kid is on a ship as a deck hand. Tai could easily remember what Logan had said when he asked why. Logan just said 'Everyone deserves a second chance, but it's up to them weather or not they take it.' Shocking Tai with his response.

Tai: "You could start cleaning, you know, to take your mind off it for a bit. After all, I know how smart you are, but sometimes it's better to take a step back and try to find a different approach. Not everything is so straight forward after all."

Logan: "Your right, somethings need a different approach to them. Doing something else will help clear my head. So how's Yang at Signal? She behaving like normal?

Logan had gotten up from his desk and had started sorting the bits and pieces in his room. While he was working, he casually asked about Yang, to him they were already like family to him. The reliable Tai, Qrow the dunk uncle, the fun and trouble-making Yang, and the ever so innocent Ruby.

Tai: "She acts like normal. She already got in to several fights with students and teachers. One I can't be mad at, someone in a group grabbed her hair and pulled. She flared and destroyed them, is the best I can describe what she did."

Tai just pinched the bridge of his nose and sighed. Even though he is a teacher at Signal, he hoped that she would calmed down and act more appropriately. Yet she was the same as ever.

Logan: "Hey, just think, next year I join and maybe be able to help you. After all, she is like a sister to me."

Tai: "Thanks, it would help. So, how much of your armor have you planed? You need any unique parts made or bought?"

Logan: "No, right now its best that it stays a shell, even with the blueprints, anyone who gets their hands on it could recreate it with difficulty. A single soldier could fight a hundred or more with it. Right now, my bracers can double as a scroll in one, the other has a hidden knife and shock function. The helmet and glasses have the H.U.D. up and running, as well as comms. However, I will have to make a delivery capsule unit so that I can change it on the fly."

Tai: "Why? Shouldn't you be able to merge every thing into one? I thought that was your plan?

Logan: "If I did, I only have a few minutes before the power drained out. So I have to opted to have a few for the situation at hand. If only I didn't have that disability, I wouldn't worry about it."

Tai: "Hey, don't be so hard on yourself. Everyone has their own problems, I mean, look at Qrow! He has to go on missions alone because of his semblance, he has to keep everyone he cares about at arms length because of it. So what that you can't generate your aura as a shield around you consistently. Your mind makes up for that in leaps and bounds. Your almost 12 and yet your mind has made things that benefit others rather than yourself. Heck, some of the teachers and students were or have some of the things you built. Other kids your age would be playing with others their age, yet your so m.a.t.u.r.e for your age that your willing to sacrifice yourself to help people you don't even know. I'm worried about you, at times you seem more of an a.d.u.l.t than that of a kid and at the same time, you seem the most childish of you, Yang, and Ruby."

As Logan was sorting through a pile of scr.a.p.e computer parts, he couldn't help but fell that Tai was right. He was both being childish, as well as being a a.d.u.l.t. Logan was lost in his thoughts when he felt a hand on his shoulder, as he looked up he saw it was Tai.

Logan: "*sigh* Your right. I have been childish with the way I've been acting. But I can't help it, aunt Mel's words have me trying my hardest to be stronger. She would always say; 'There will come a time when to have to take a plunge,' "

Tai finished for him, he knew that saying well. Melodia pretty much preached that saying to him.

Tai: " 'It's up to you weather to take a step and fall, or you jump right on in.' She basically preached that saying to me. And how right she is. Even I had to admit that she was right. So, what will you do now?"

Logan: " First, I'm going to complete my basic assault armor, code-named 'Sensō'. Second, create a weapon for it that is good up mid to close range. Then, get into Signal and try to make some friends."

Tai: "That's the spirit! Now how much do you have left to do? I'll try to help when I'm here."

Logan: "All of the shell is complete, all that's left is to integrate some tech that's left. The arms are good, the legs need a bit of messing with, and the c.h.e.s.t needs padding, the shield can wait for now. However, I have yet to design a weapon for it. Any ideas?"

Tai: "Sense to have a strong foundation, how about a heavy caliber gun and sword/knife combo that can combine to form a rifle?"

Logan: "Sounds good, can you get to work on some blueprints for it?"

Tai: "Giving me the easy stuff,eh? Okay, I'll bit."

Logan and Tai got to work on their respective projects. Tai could understand what Logan was going through, feeling to weak to help. To Tai, he was seeing himself when he lost Summer, his wife, on a mission. To him, Logan was already like a son to him, and Logan already admitted that he sees him as family. Unbeknown to them, a dark horizon was approaching.
