RWBY: The Phantom Of Remnant

Chapter 73 - Magic Training

Coming up to an open area a small bit away from the camp, Magna turned back smiled, "This place looks good enough. Nice and open with alot of space. What do you think, June?"

Even though she was still determined to learn, she was a little apprehensive about leaving the camp. Her shoulders trembled slightly as she quietly said, "W-Why can't we just learn inside the camp? There's grimm out here…"

Magna mentally sighed. This girl was a bit of a scaredy cat. To be fair, it was a rationale fear to have as grimm were literally the enemy of all humans and faunus.

"We need to be someplace open, just in case something goes wrong during training. Don't worry about the grimm, I'm here to protect you." Said Magna, looking at her with a gently smile.

June's fears seemed to ease up as she softly nodded. Taking a deep breath, her body slowly relaxed as she silently cheered herself on. She even went so far as to pump her arms back and forth to hype herself up.

Amused at her antics, Magna couldn't help but chuckle, "Now that you're prepared, should we start on the first lesson?"

Magna slowly guide June in the ways of magic. Since she was a complete beginner, Magna started out by trying to get her to 'will' an element into existence.

He didn't know how maiden magic worked but he decided to train her like how Rudeus was trained. However, this was proving difficult for June.

Half an hour passed by but she was still unable to summon an element. The frustration started to build inside her as tears gathered in her eyes.

Suddenly, her eyes started to glow as a small ball of water appeared. A bright smile appeared on her face as she cheered, "I did it!"

Sadly, Magna shook his head, "That doesn't count June. Your anger summoned the water ball. Try again."

June's eyes glowed brighter as she yelled in agitation, "What do you mean 'That doesn't count'!? I did what you asked, didn't I!?"

Magna didn't reply as he motioned around him. June looked around her and quickly calmed down. There were multiple balls of water in the air yet she couldn't recall summoning them.

The waters balls seemed… agitated, ripples covering the surface. A wry smile appeared on June's face as she took a few deep breaths. When she fully calmed down, the water balls fell to the ground no matter how hard June tried to control them.

Seeing the dejected look on June's face, Magna decided to try another method. He gently grabbed her hands, startling the young maiden as he whispered, "Close your eyes."

Her cheeks were dusted a light pink as she nodded and slowly closed her eyes.

"Now picture a ball of wall, just floating next to you. I mean, really focus on the details. How the water looks, how it feels, how much it weighs." Said Magna.

June nodded. Closing her eyes, she began focusing on the details, like Magna said. She imagine a ball of clean, transparent water. It was slightly cold to the touch and weighed almost as much as a watermelon.

Suddenly, a ball of water formed above her head. However, Magna's lips twitched when he saw how the water seemed to have dark lines through it, making it look like a watermelon.

When June saw the water melon she created, she blushed in embarrassment and whispered, "Sorry, I got distracted."

Almost at the exact moment she finished speaking, the water melon above her trembled a couple times before collapsing, dousing June from head to toe.

Thinking that she failed, June couldn't help but feel down as her bottom lip trembled, "I-I'm sorry Magna. Even though your taking the time to train me, I've done nothing but fail."

Seeing the young maiden cry while drenched, Magna used magic to slowly dry her as he quickly pulled her into a hug.

"It's alright, June. You didn't fail. I only said to 'summon a waterball', I didn't say it couldn't look like a watermelon." Said Magna, ending in a joking tone as he chuckled.

June, still curled up in his embrace, started giggling. After a few minutes, the young maiden calmed down as Magna slowly let her go, "There. Good as new!"

Now, that her clothes were dried, Magna decided to take a break. June's continous use of her maiden magic had drained her aura quite a bit.

The pair had a small brunch, sitting next to each other. June seemed to be comfortable around him as she talked up a small storm. She mostly asked questions about who he was.

To say she was surprised when he said they kidnapped him was an understatement. On one hand, she was thankful they kidnapped him because she finally gained a friend. On the other hand, she was a little angry that the tribe kidnapped a teenage boy.

However, even though she felt angry about, she knew there wasn't anything she could do. The hierarchy of the tribe was based on strength, and with June's current strength, she didn't have the right to voice her opinion.

Even Magna was affected by the tribes hierarchy. Since no one besides Vernal, Raven and the bandits he fought during the tournament knew his strength, most of the bandits were arrogant and disdained the idea of getting to know him.

Though, Magna truly didn't care. At this point, the only reason he was even staying here was for June. Her personality made it difficult for her to fight, making her position in the tribe at the very bottom.

June was a very shy and sweet girl, much too different from the thieves and killers of the Branwen tribe. Even when they showed her nothing but disdain, she still kept her smile.

Magna actually asked her about why she smiled when everyone didn't give her the time of day, and her response was that they saved her.

She explained how her village had just been destroyed by a grimm horde and a month ago. Homeless and without her family, the young maiden could only wander around the forest.

She wandered for weeks, looking for some form of civilization. Unfortunately, she was attacked by a pack of beowolves. When she closed her eyes and waited for death, the sound of the grimm howls suddenly stopped.

When she finally worked up the courage to open her eyes, June was greeted by the sight of Raven, slowly sheathing her sword as the grimm surrounding her fell to the floor before turning into dust.

From there, Raven offered her a home, a family. Even if the people here didn't seem to like her, June felt grateful to Raven for saving her life.

Magna could see the conviction in her eyes, as she tightly clenched her fist, "One day, I'll pay Raven back for helping me. Then after that… I might leave the tribe."

Though she was truly thankful to Raven for saving her, the tribe didn't exactly give the young maiden the best impression. She really wanted to leave but she couldnt.

June felt obligated to pay Raven back, that way they could part ways on equal terms. A soft sigh escaped Magna's lips as he slowly shook his head.

'Naive…' Magna thought to himself. There was no way that Raven would willingly let her leave. She'd have to be stronger than everyone in the tribe to actually be capable of leaving.

However, now that he knew she was just staying to pay Raven back and had no real loyalty towards the tribe, Magna smiled as he decided that once he was done training her, he was going to take her with him.

Let Raven and her band of misfits come after him, Magna wasn't afraid in the slightest. He only had a bit more than a week before the cooldown for his semblance ended.

And once the cooldown was finished, Magna was fully prepared to leave this place... or demolish everything in his path to do so.
