RWBY: The Phantom Of Remnant

Chapter 74 - Bandit Raid Part 1

A week calmly passed in the blink of an eye. Throughout the week, Magna patiently taught June about how to use her magic.

After figuring out how to use her magic without having to rely on her emotions, June became like a fish in water. She absorbed Magna's teachings like a sponge.

If Magna had to rank her current skill in magic, he'd wager she was scratching the surface of the elementary level. She could conjure ball-type magic quite easily, with water magic being the only element she could instantly summon.

June was ecstatic about her new found proficiency in magic. She was actually so happy about it that she caused a small accident in the camp.

A few days after their first training session, Raven wanted to see how much June's magic has grown under Magna's tutelage. With ease, she summoned a ball of water the size of a basketball.

Raven was slightly impressed by June's display but still asked for more. Magna explained that they haven't covered anything else yet June thought she could do more.

Wanting to live up to Magna's praise and expectations, she strained herself and created a waterball the size of a person. However, she lost control of the waterball due to her fatigue, causing it to fall on Raven, dousing her from head to toe.

Obviously, Raven was very displeased by the accident and her expression worsened when Magna told her it was her own fault.

He explained that she tried to rush June to show her more, resulting in the accident happening in the first place.

'Haste makes waste', after all.

Pulling himself from his thoughts, Magna chuckled to himself one last time before making his way outside. Even though he's been here for a week, Magna has become a sort of outcast amoung the tribe.

He blatantly refused to socialise with the men and women here, having only spoken to 3 people during his stay.

Vernal was very kind and bubbly for a bandit, making it easier to talk to her. Plus, they did share a kiss, even if it was an accident.

Raven needed a verbal report from Magna on June's progress everyday so, no matter how much Magna didn't like her, he had to talk to her.

Lastly, probably the only person he actually enjoyed talking to in the entire camp, June. Since the pair trained together everyday, she actually opened up to Magna quite a bit.

Sometimes, she would sneak over to Magna's tent during nighttime, wanting to talk for just a little longer. She even slept over once, earning her a small lecture on 'boys and girls'.

Obviously, the first time she snuck over, Magna almost buried her six feet under. Luckily, she managed to quickly calm him down.

Anyway, as Magna walked through the camp, he noticed that everyone seemed to have a smile on their faces as they raced around the camp.

It was… odd, to say the least. Shaking his head, Magna ignored the busy bandits and headed to June's tent.

Seeing the tent still closed, Magna leaned forward. He could hear a quiet rustling from inside tent and swore he heard her silently whispering his name.

"June! You awake?" Yelled Magna.

Suddenly, a loud 'Eep!' came from inside the tent, followed by the sound of something large slamming against the floor. Magna chuckled as he heard a soft groan come from inside, "You alright in there?"

"I-I'm fine… please don't come in." Replied June.

After a few minutes, June quickly came out of her tent. Her cheeks were bright red and her clothes seemed hastily thrown on while an unhappy pout adorned her face.

Magna chuckled as he ruffled her hair, earning him a very unhappy glare. She gently hit him on the shoulder as she muttered, "Meanie…"

The pair walked through the camp, a small pout still on June's face when Vernal suddenly stopped them. Magna was about to greet her when he noticed the serious expression on her face.

She said nothing as she grabbed Magna by the wrist and dragged him away. Once it was just the two of them, Vernal said, "We're going to be raiding a mining village."

Magna blinked a couple times before slowly saying, "…No."

Vernal slapped his arm and angrily said, "What do you mean, 'No'!?"

"It means I'm not helping you guys steal dust!" Retorted Magna, glaring at her.

She could see by the look in his eyes that he meant it, he wasn't going to help them. Vernal sighed as she turned away, "Fine! Don't help us… just help June. Raven's taking her with us."

Magna's eyes widened, "June can't go, she's not ready!"

Vernal shrugged her shoulders, "Raven doesn't care whether she's ready or not, she only cares if she's useful. And frankly? I don't really care either."

Watching her just walk away, the good impression Magna held of her in his heart dropped. June's only been training with her magic for a week. The only spell she can use is conjuring elements in ball form.

Even then, she can't launch them very quickly. Magna was still training her on how to actually fire it.

An annoyed groan escaped his lips as he roughly clawed through his hair.

'I guess I'm going…' Magna thought to himself. He planned to only support June.

He honestly just wanted to leave the tribe and since the cooldown for his semblance finished, he had the means to do so.

However, June can be surprisingly stubborn. She told him that she wasn't leaving till she repaid Raven for saving her.

And, after all the time they've spent together, Magna had grown attached to the young spring maiden. She was literally the only reason why he didn't just leave.

Magna vaguely felt that June's life was in danger. He could remember that Raven had maiden powers during the show but he couldn't remember how she got them.

Did she inherit them? Did she one day wake up with them? Magna honestly couldn't remember. He stood in silence, trying to remember what she did to gain her powers but ended up sighing.

He decided that he would just stay by her side until she was ready to leave. Magna could tell that June's patience was running thin.

A small chuckle actually left his mouth as she would probably use this raid as an excuse to leave. He quickly ran off in search of June, easily finding her stuffing her face with a bright sparkle in her eyes.

Seeing him make his way over, June completely ignored the disdained looks she was getting from her surroundings as she excitedly waved her greasy hands in the air, "Magna! Come sit by me! I even got you a plate!"

Magna wryly smiled at her as sweat dropped down his forehead. If there was one thing wrong with June, it would be her eating habits.

Unlike most girls, June was a very messy eater. Unless it was something you can't eat with your hands, June always ate like the food was going to disappear.

It actually fascinated Magna how fast she could eat and how much food her stomach could hold. Shaking his head, Magna made his way over to her and smiled.

"Hold still." Said Magna. Like every other day, Magna took a napkin out from his pocket and started wiping the greasy from her face.

He chuckled at her red cheeks as he'd been doing this for a week and she still wasn't used to it. However, instead of shying away, her eyes seemed to smile at him as she happily said, "Thank you~."

Magna nodded back with a smile of his own. Though, his smile disappeared a second later, being replaced by a serious expression as he said, "Are you ready for tonight?"

In response, June could only sigh.
