Swallowing The Spider

[After Transition] 

"Oh, really? So, you aren't originally from this island, Doctor Nichols?" I ask as we sit on the floor of the room with the cursed grand piano and the deceased body of Kevin Hale in the corner but that doesn't stop us from enjoying the food she has with her which is actually some sushi weirdly enough but I guess it's nice and so we sat in the middle of the room eating rice balls (onigiri, I think they are called), some of those yellow things and other types of sushi while just talking about random stuff and ourselves, we went through quite a few topics with some quite random and weird diversions but we eventually got to this point where I learned that Doctor Alex Nichols isn't originally an inhabitant of this island.  

"No, I am not. I usually go back to Gotham City every weekend; it is my home after all even if it is a bit worse for wear but Batman has made it better than it used to be. It has been around two years since I started coming here to this island, it beats working at a hospital in Gotham City where you're barraged by patients who are likely to bash your head in the next moment and I don't think I would be able to run a clinic in Gotham City like Doctor Leslie Thompkins, I much prefer it here." So she started coming here two years ago when the last incident before this one actually occurred in which the previous mayor Isaac Kingston died at the piano and while I don't believe much in coincidences there is no evidence pointing towards this being anything more than a coincidence since she first came to this island two years ago and while the last mayor did suspiciously die two years ago as well she had only just got to the island so I don't think there would have been enough time to grow a motive to kill him so she isn't that much of a suspect though I will keep my eye out just in case, I think I recall someone saying that the last mayors death was just an accident or natural causes or something but I can't trust that until I verify that myself but in the case that it was a murder I can only ȧssume that someone did it at the piano to make it seem like it was the curse and protect themselves but if that is the case then it is entirely feasible that I am looking for two suspects with one being the murderer of the last mayor and one being the murderer of Kevin Hale because two people could have come up with the same plan to use the curse as cover so this might actually be just two different cases that used the same method but that is only a possibility as it is more likely that they are connected since the same method was used. 

"Actually, speaking of two years. I have a question about Mayor Kingston who died here two years ago, I would like to know more about this incident." I ask but the whole time facts are continuing to revolve around my brain like a merry go round and each piece of information is a jigsaw piece and I have to find the pieces that fix together but the problem is that when I fit the pieces together the other pieces all transform and become different and don't end up being able to connect to the puzzle at all and so I have to find a very precise and meticulous order in which to connect the information so that it all lines up and fits and so far I font have many very pieces connected and most likely am missing a link between the pieces which is why I am questioning Doctor Alex Nichols to gather more information and jigsaw pieces while also trying to connect various things in my brain, like the fact that while Alex doesn't have much motive at the moment she does go to Gotham City on the weekend so she could be the person who put the message on the newspaper to Batman warning him and inadvertently me of something funky happening on this island but that would mean she is aware of what is going down which would mean she is either the criminal, an accomplice or possibly she knows who did it somehow and she sent the message for Batman to stop the culprit. 

"Hmm, the previous mayor? Well, Mayor Kingston had previously had some heart problems and the cause of his death was a heart attack. When he was found, his face was rather tense or stiff, I can't find the exact word or it. The expression on his dead body, it was as though he had seen something terrifying before he had died." Quite strange that he would look like he had seen something terrifying but I suppose because he apparently died of a heart attack it wouldn't be weird for his face to turn into a grimace to show his anguish and that could probably be described as terrifying so I guess it makes sense, even so it is pretty suspicious and the fact that the murder of Kevin Hale would have been passed off as being an accident or because of the curse if I wasn't here makes me even more suspicious because maybe no one discovered the cause of death two years ago and it was all faked according to the culprits plans so there is every chance that the previous mayor's death was a murder and since I wasn't actually there I have to take everything I hear into consideration but at the same time take it with a grain of salt so I won't begin to get bogged down by facts and keep my mind unfettered and limbered to keep connecting the dots and to see underneath the underneath but for now it is time to rest and the good doctor is looking a bit tired.  "Okay then, I am sure you are tired so you can go ahead and go to sleep. I am going to keep watch tonight and make sure that no one interferes with the crime scene, just until the police detectives from Gotham City get here tomorrow to investigate it."

"Yo, kid. What are you doing here? And what's your name again? I forgot, not too good with names." It is now morning and both myself and Doctor Alex Nichols are still here and she just woke up now when the police from Gotham City arrived and entered into the scene of the crime only to find doctor Nichols sleeping on a few blankets and me sat down leaning against a wall calmly and the reason I am calm and didn't panic about getting out of the place before the cops came in is the fact the lead detective on this case is Detective Harvey Bullock and since we met briefly and I know for a fact that he is a laid back guy I decided to stay to increase my influence on this case plus I wouldn't have been able to remove all evidence of myself and Alex being in the room and I wouldn't have been able to get us both out of here without revealing my powers to her so I decided to stay since she would have told them I was here anyway plus I'd feel kind of bad dobbing her in like that, right now Detective Bullock has finished talking to everyone he needed to and learning the details of the case and given orders when he spots me standing in a corner of the room and comes over to greet me and inquire about my presence with a booming voice which inadvertently ends up waking Alex from her deep slumber. 

"It is good to meet you again Detective Bullock, and the name is Nick James. I was actually here on a bit of a getaway from work and ended up stumbling onto this murder case, I actually thought that since this was a murder case somebody needed to stay at the crime scene and make sure nothing was tampered with until the police came and so I decided to take it up upon myself to safeguard the areas until your arrival. Actually, I am a bit more interested in this since I wanted to see what Commissioner Gordon and most likely his daughter in the future will be doing, I suppose I just wanted to observe and see what it is like to gain some perspective on Barbara's father's job and probably her profession in the future as well." I say to him answering his questions but at the same time I trace it with some talk about Barabara and her father so that he wouldn't mind me tagging along and observing the investigation so that I might lend a hand where it is needed and keep them on the right track and I feel like Harvey Bullock is the perfect Detective for the job since he looks like he wouldn't give two shits about me tagging along , honestly I am more prepared for him to tell me to fuċk off and end up having to force myself onto him and his investigation and following him around relentlessly trying to help solve the case while being immensely annoying during the process but as long as I prove myself useful and help him with the investigation then he will agree to keep me around so that he can put in less effort and solve it as soon as possible so he can go home and eat donuts and drink beer. 

"Haha, not a problem kid and you can call me Harvey. You can follow me, you are the Comish's future son in law after all so just follow me and you can gain some perspective and nuance about this job. I've already spoken to a few people her and I've already learned the full story so now it's time for some questioning, while my guys scan this room for evidence, we ae going to head to the village office where we are going to interview people and try and get to the bottom of this whole thing, follow me."  I completely forgot that I had pretended to be Barabara's boyfriend when we went to the police station so that I could meet her dad and while I completely forgot about such an insignificant thing the people at the police station remembered this which the Commissioner probably hates  but I am loving since right now it has become my excuse to tag along with Harvey and investigate without hardly any restrictions placed on me so I will have resources and manpower to help me solve this murder case, probably not going to tell Barbara about this but I guess it will somehow end up back to her anyway probably due to this police in this town and the fact she has the inside track and quite a few of the cops like to gossip. 

I begin to follow him leaving Alex to tidy up her stuff as I talk to Harvey about a few things and more specifically this case, wanting to know everything about it in case I missed something or I discovered something new and I ask him just how many people are going to be interviewing today. "Oh, we are just getting started boy. We have 38 witnesses to question, is going to be a long day." A long day indeed...
