Tales Of Pristinia

Chapter 24 - The Eighth Race (2)

We heard the footsteps get closer and closer. And when they emerged, we saw something we never saw before.

It was a person. Under the shadow of the darkness, they had red crimson eyes that were visible even through the darkness. As I let light shone on them, they had skin as white as snow and pitch black hair. They had a young face like about a teenager becoming a young a.d.u.l.t in human terms. Their face was indistinguishable, as to whether it was male or female. They wore fine clothes with a very formal design. But caught our attention most was that they had fangs when they opened their mouth. A necklace, similar to ours, one with mythril-colored lace and a crystal was also worn by this stranger. Instead of any other element, their necklace had a moon-shaped design with a star and emitted a dark purple hue.

The stranger came closer to us and walked slowly.

"Stay where you are!" Marze shouted as she assumed her stance.

"I mean you no harm," the stranger spoke with a reassuring perfect tenor voice.

"Silence," Drey beat his staff.

"Wait guys," I stepped forward. "Who are you and how did you get that necklace?"

"This is no time to ask that question!" the stranger replied and looked back to the path he took.

"What do you mean, not the time?" Drey beat his staff again.

Suddenly, the ground was rumbling and the whole hall shook as if the whole land vibrated. The hall cracked and the debris started falling from the ceiling.

"Watch out!" the stranger pushed Drey away when he was about to be crushed by debris.

"Marze," I grabbed her hand, "this way." I led her upstairs.

The hall crumbled down and we were separated from Drey and the stranger. It was dark so I cast Flash again. We were safe from danger in the meantime, but our path outside was blocked and the only path left was to go deeper the temple.

"Are you alright Marze?" I helped her stand up.

"I'm fine. Where's Drey?" She looked around.

"We were separated during that crumbling."

"I remember that stranger saving him."

"Yeah," I looked at the blocked path. "We have to find them somehow."

"You don't they were crushed do you?"

"No, they weren't crushed. They must not be crushed."

We paused for a moment, took our time for a breather.

"Let's worry about ourselves for now and figure out a way out of this temple."

We took the path that led us deeper to the temple. On our way, we encountered monsters which we have never encountered before. Some were slimes and some took on the forms of animals. They had extensive outgrowths, just like one particular naja that we fought. It grew bat wings and was quite large compared to ordinary najas. Fighting it was difficult, considering the cramped space that we were in. It also secreted poison which nearly hit us. Thankfully, it wasn't muchof a threat. I defeated it using Lightning Strike.

The long hallway path was reaching its end. We saw light at the distance. It looked like sunlight from afar, but when we got closer, it was just burning fire. We got near the end of the long hallway path and came close to a room which was occupied by a woman similar to the stranger. The woman wore a dark long dress. Our eyes were kept getting moved towards her fangs, which protruded from her lips.

We crept closely at the entrance of the room. We looked around and saw something that made us glad, it was Drey. He managed to escape from being crushed, but was now held captive along with the stranger. They were chained in the middle of a magic circle, which was different from what mages use. Torches lit the room and the woman walked around with what seems to be a tome.

We were glad thay Drey made it alive. We dared not approach any closer. We listened to the conversation between the adversaries.

"Kent, the last of the pure vampires, now I have you captive," the woman said to the stranger who we have encountered. "With your blood, I will completely revive the Famir clan."

"You mustn't!" the stranger spoke. "Even with a few of you, darkness has engulfed the world. The whole world will end if all of you will be revived."

"You!" the woman grabbed a dagger and ran to the stranger. "It was your mother who demoted us from nobility and banished us from Lunervia. We had no choice but to sell our soulless souls to the devil."

"It was because of your clan," the woman continued. "That the vampire race was nearly exterminated from Pristinia. It was because of you why we lost Ethan's blessing."

"The royal family did what was needed to be done," Kent replied. "Your clan made our family abnegate the throne, it was your family that made vampires nearly extinct!"

They quarreled until the woman took attention on Drey's neck.

"Ahhh," the woman held Drey's neck. "It has been long since I've tasted the blood of fairies."

"Stop!" Kent shouted but he was chained and thus was immobile.

The woman got close to biting Drey's neck. We knew we had to do something, so with all my might I cast Flash to startle the woman. Marze rushed to them and broke off the chains that were holding them in place. She slashed the woman but missed. I got to Drey as he lay unconscious on the ground.

The woman was now enraged and a battle was about to ensue.
