Tales Of Pristinia

Chapter 25 - Ancient Horrors

The woman let out a deafening shriek that shook the whole room. As we came to face her, she was red with anger.

"Fools!" she said with a hardened voice that sounded like a man's voice. "Do you not know me?"

There was no time to listen to her so I cast Restore and Heal on Drey. He was still unconscious but we were relieved he was fine.

"I am Selena V. Famir," she continued. "Fourth duchess of Lunervia. You shall never again see the light of day!" Her eyes burned red, her hair stood up and her claws grew larger. She tramsformed into a hideous beast, which looked like a bat. A giant bat with protruding fangs and overgrown wings.

She let out a shriek again so we covered our ears. She flapped her wings and the torches that lit the room were extinguished. Now the room was dark and our visibility was zero.

"Watch out!" A voice said. It belonged to the stranger, whose eyes glowed crimson in the dark. He pushed me out of the way and I felt the breeze of the wind. I cast Flash to lighten the room and saw that it was that monster, who caused the breeze. She flew around with her great wings, slashing everything on her path with her great claws.

I was pushed out of harm's way but it seens that Kent was injured from the attack. Without wasting another moment, I cast Heal and cured his wounds. But instead of closed wounds, he was burned by my magic.

"Ouch!" he screamed in pain.

"Sorry," I stopped casting. "My Heal spell does not work on you."

"I'm a vampire, a creature of darkness, your spell would work the other way around."

The beast swooped for another attack but Marze was able to block it. She followed it and tried to slash her but missed. I cast Flash on her path in an attempt to blind her and it worked. She crashed on the ground and it was our chance!

Marze rushed and used Concentrated Pierce, it was a hit, but it wasn't much effective. I used Heal, using it on Kent gave me an idea on an easy fight against the monster. She took some damage but it also wasn't effective. Kent, meanwhile, approached her, turned his nails into claws and slashed at the monster. All of our attacks weren't effective against the beast. Then she regained her strength and again shrieked and left us in a daze. She flew and slashed me, my feet felt like jelly so I wasn't able to avoid the attack.

I cast Heal on myself. Marze used Lightning Strike and hit the monster, but like our previous attacks, it wasn't effective either.

"Still no good!" Marze grunted.

"Our attacks are not doing anything," I replied.

"Hit her with a powerful light element attack. Our race have always feared light element users," Kent suggested.

Then came rushing to me like a swift surging river, the technique that Professor Traust taught me. I haven't tried it yet, but it may get us out of this adversity.

"I have an idea," I said to the two.

"Then what are you doing staring around for?" Marze dictated. "Tell us!"

"I want you two to distract her while I prepare for my plan."

"Is that all?" Marze jumped and prepared a stance. "Consider it done!"

She rushed to her, gaining her complete attention. Kent followed Marze and the two worked on distracting Selena. I, meanwhile, focused on replenishing my magic energy. I meditated. I kept on gathering as much as I could until I felt the magic flowing althroughout my body. I prepared the Magus Regalia and the Regesta and readied for the Spell Conjugation.

"I need you two to pin her down," I shouted. "We only got one shot!"

"How demanding!" Marze shouted back.

Marze then threw her trident at her, pinning her left wing to the wall. Kent also did the same but used stones to make her right wing stuck. She was now immobile but still strong. She tried to remove herself from immobility, but thankfully, Marze and Kent did not let her.

I started casting the spell. I gathered as much light as I could, but since it was dark there wasn't much that I got. I cast Najan and made it steady. Then followed it with Helio, Licht, Soleil, and Chaud. I was shaking because multicasting requires a lot of control and since the light element also behaves like a wave, controlling it was very difficult. It was very difficult.

A lot of focus is required in controlling each spell. I almost got it but I was still one spell short. I still haven't cast Chaist, which would be the spell to bind all other spells together.

"Is it ready Lance?" Marze shouted as she pushed her trident even deeper to the wall. Selena was rampaging out of control. I knew I had to hurry but I still haven't stabilized the other spells that I cast.

I felt my magic energy running out by every second that passed. I knew multicasting was hard but I never imagined that it would be this difficult.

Then suddenly, a familiar voice called out.

"You wish to conjugate different light spells? Why didn't you say so?"

It was Erian's voice. I then felt a warmth in my c.h.e.s.t, it was the necklace glowing brightly. I felt my magic energy gradually replenishing. Finally, I was able to cast Chaist and with all the other spells were bound together.

"Light element conjugation," I shouted. Then the six spells all became one. "Take this Selena!"

I directed all my strength in controlling the spell and directing it towards her. The immobile Selena shrieked and shouted as the conjugate spell approached her. Everything went and a fervent flash flickered and flowed as the spell hit her. It was a direct hit.

Selena shouted and cursed as she took a direct hit from my spell. Moments after, the large hideous monster was gone and Selena was back to her original form, the form of a woman.

Marze and Kent were also there. Marze was completely conscious and cheered at our complete champ. Kent, meanwhile, suffered injuries. He had burns which I think were from my spell. His weakness was light and restorative magic after all.

Marze approached me and smiled. "We did it Lance!" and as her shining sparkling smile shone on me, tears flowed from her eyes. Without hesitation, I embraced her and comforted her.

"It's alright!" I held her tight. "I'll be here for you no matter what. I'll protect you even if it means losing everything."

With those words, Marze cried even harder. She returned my embrace and everything finite froze into infinity.

"How sweet," Selena's voice aired in joy. "And pathetic." She stood up like nothing happened.

"Well, well, well, don't think that you have defeated me just because I was hit with that pathetic of a spell." We froze in fear and was dumbfounded.

"I am ancient. I have been here long before all of you came into existence. This skirmish was entertaining. As much as I want to bathe in your blood, I also wish to be entertained again. I'll let you go for now. Consider it providence that I am letting you live."

And with those words, the pressure I felt tumultuously toughened and intensified. It was as if we're dealing with a force that was never supposed to be dealt with mere beings like us.

She left like nothing happened. Her appearance was the same as before. She only got a mere scratch on her c.h.e.s.t. In a blink of an eye, she ran off and disappeared without a trace.
