Night time soon fell and dark clouds hovered above the sky as the two opposing forces were filled with tensiom and was patiently waiting for the either side to strike first so that the second battle to start. 

'clang'

'clang!'

The metal clamoring sounded from behind the walls as soldiers joined in a mock duel against each other while biding their time and also gathering enough strength and energy for later.

And just when everyone thought that they would get a peaceful night, a quarel soon broke out. The people who were involved in this fight was a kitchen staff and a soldier.

"Don't lie to me!" The soldier pointed his finger at the kitchen staff. "Where did you all hide our food? We should be getting more than just a porridge of rice and vegetable! Do you think we're monks?!"

The kitchen staff's brows twitched in annoyance as he glared at the soldier. "Hide your food? Hmph! This food originally came from our warehouse. Which eye did you see your name written on our food? Besides, why would we hide it? Aren't we already sharing it to you bastards?"

The food ration was dwindling faster than everyone had thought. With more than a hundred thousand soldiers inside the city, the food became a problem. It was simply impossible to give food to these hungry soldiers. 

But because of the fire incident last time, the situation became much dangerous.

The soldiers clearly didn't want to listen to the kitchen staff's words as he grabbed the hilt of his sword and intended to strike down the irritating man.

However, before he could take out the sharp sword of the scabbard, a hand clasped around his forearm. The strength that the hnd used to hold him down was not weak at all. The soldier furrowed his brows in pain and groaned.

Upon realizing that he had shown an embarrassing side of him in public and in front of the kitchen staff, the soldier wanted to scold whoever was holding him down.

Just then, when he turned to face that person, he saw someone he had never thought would stand before him, a lower ranked soldier.

"What is going on here?" 

Standing behind the soldier, Qu Xing Xu coldly swept his in the dining hall. Whenever his eyes landed on one soldier, that person would tuck his head lower as though he was a turtle who could hide his head and limbs inside his protective shell. As for other soldiers inside the hall, they also had a similar reaction as that person. 

Qu Xing Xu released the man and walked to the center of the dining hall where everyone could see him.

"I know everyone's agitated because of the decrease of ration. However, this will only be temporary so there's no need to fight amongst each other," Qu Xing Xu told them. Honestly, he couldn't be bothered with them and would rather stay inside his room and plan on how he would swallow the whole Chu Empire. However, his three brothers persuaded him to come and boost everyone's morale.

"Bu...But when will the ration return back to normal?" A short soldier from the back asked.

"I already sent someone to inquire from the neighboring cities to gather and buy food from them. In this way, if one city doesn't have enough food, we can buy some from the next city. By now, they should have already reached the cities and negotiated with the city people." Qu Xing Xu answered the short soldier's question calmly.

Upon hearing him, the soldiers, as if they were affected by his calmness, also calmed down. The people who quareled earlier and those who was silently complaining in their hearts finally settled down. 

After boosting up the soldiers' fighting spirit and unraveled their doubts, Qu Xing Xu returned to his courtyard where Qi Yandi was standing restlessly.

When the other saw him walking closer, Qi Yandi suddenly stopped pacing about and stiffly turned his head to him.

"Bro... Brother Xu..." Qi Yandi walked up to him nervously.

Qu Xing Xu didn't know what was wrong with him, but he considered that Qi Yandi was the weird one in their group and so, he didn't take his strange actions to heart.

And before Qi Yandi could say anything and stop him from going inside the courtyard, Qu Xing Xu had already opened the door and saw Wu Xuanyi inside the courtyard.

Pausing for a second, Qu Xing Xu opened the door again and looked at Qi Yandi who was still standing outside.

"You let her in?" He asked coldly.

Qi Yandi felt like his soul was being picked by a devil and vigorously shook his head. "I didn't! I won't! And I will never!"

"Then, what is she doing here?" 

Qi Yandi also didn't know why Wu Xuanyi went there. When he came here to look for Qu Xing Xu, Wu Xuanyi was already inside and he didn't have the time to tell Qu Xing Xu about it when he appeared just now.

Just where were the guards that should have been standing here?! 

That was also what Qu Xing Xu was wondering. He closed his eyes and felt the presence of his shadowmen scattered around the courtyard and even inside the city. 

He connected his mind to the one closest to him and asked him what is going on and why did they let her come in?

The shadowman told him that they too wanted to stop Wu Xuanyi from coming inside, however, for some unknown reason, they couldn't approach her as if there was an invisible chain that forced them to stop.

Qu Xing Xu frowned and asked the other shadowmen around the courtyard. Their response was the same as the first shadowman. 

After hearing their explanations, Qu Xing Xu didn't rush to find out why this happened.

He turned his head to look at Wu Xuanyi, who was standing and looking at him in anticipation as a blush colored her cheeks.

"Brother Xing Xu..." Wu Xuanyi smiled abashedly at him.

Qu Xing Xu cut off his connection with the shadowmen and opened his lips to speak, "Make it quick since I have more important things to do."

With his cold response to her sweet callings, Wu Xuanyi hesitated for a bit. She stared at him with fresh tears in her eyes and stepped forward to stand close to him.

Seeing that Qu Xing Xu was treating her coldly, Wu Xuanyi decided to say what she has been hiding inside her mind and heart.

"I like you, Brother Xing Xu."

Author has something to say: Gah!! I really hate Wu Xuanyi. Desperate much? Sigh...writing this kind of character is really making me want to slap their face XD

On another note, our girly Lin Xiaofei will appear next chapter again! This time, our power couple will meet after a long time! Expect a smooch or more in the following chapters. (Ps.. I really want to publish a mass release but I don't have a stockpile DX.)
