The Burning Fiend

Chapter 71 - Odin the 'Vile King' (Part 3)

Odin was looking at the two new arrivals with reluctance as he suddenly came to understand that he would not be able to gain his revenge today, perhaps even surviving would be difficult. "His soul attacks are on the same level as mine, so I guess you both should have no problem... he has a wind avatar at the 5-star Fiend level but I think I managed to injure his soul and he should not be able to do much for a while." Reynolds was grateful for the support, and he told the pair of brothers what he knew of the enemy.

Harvey looked curiously at Reynolds and said with an extremely serious face. "Did you really take Catherine as a slave in exchange for helping her to get back the Yulan Empire?" Reynolds blinked in surprise and chuckled. "No I helped her in order to take advantage of her religion to gain faith energy... that was a rumor that escalated to an unexpected level... I just implanted the idea that she was my woman on a few people in order to tease her but I don't know where the crazy stuff making her a martyr came from".

Reynolds said sincerely thinking that perhaps Harvey had some interest in Catherine, but he almost fell from the sky as he heard his next words. "Oh... I did that, it seemed fun enough but the joke was lacking something so I improvised". Harvey's serious face transformed when a mischievous smile appeared on his face and soon both Reynolds and Harvey were laughing out loud while looking at each other in appreciation.

Harry was sighing and shaking his head while Odin was fuming at being ignored but kept his silence hoping to gain an opportunity to escape, but without any warning Reynolds turned into dark purple flame in mid laughter and charged at him while both Harvey and Harry divided into two avatars and closed on him blocking the possibility of escape.

Harvey and Harry both used long daggers which seemed extremely sharp and resistant making Odin believe that those were the legendary sovereign artifacts, in true the four daggers were made of divine sparks and after being nurtured by them for thousands of years they were already superior to most highgod level artifacts. Wounds started to appear on Odin's body and his situation soon turned dire, madness seemed to coalesce in his eyes as if thinking in at least take one of them with him, and the best candidate was Reynolds who had killed his brother and son.

The five combatants seemed to feel the change and retreated keeping their guard while surrounding them, Reynolds remembered that when he was a child grandpa Lomu once told him that a beast was most dangerous the moment it felt trapped or near to the moment of its death, and Odin seemed to have become one at this moment.

"Beirut, don't you think that taking this Odin to the Necropolis of the Gods could be useful? At least your own children could spar with him from time to time until one of them managed to kill him alone." Bluefire's voice was neutral, but the truth was that he felt that killing Odin was too kind as a punishment, Odin was not called the 'Vile King' for nothing and the cruelty of his games was legendary within the Gebados Planar Prison.

"Do you want to save him? No, that doesn't seem likely... you want him to suffer and to find despair before he is allowed to die? Hahaha I did not know you have grievances with this Odin, but you can do as you like... after all Reynolds would not be able to kill him alone and even with Harry and Harvey in there, he can use his wind avatar to escape... he might only be stalling enough time for his wind avatar to recover." Beirut's eyes never left Odin, his talent was good but he was too vicious of a creature to include him in any of his plans.

"True, do you want to do the honors? It might not be a good idea to let Reynolds know of our true power yet". Bluefire smiled as Beirut's face fell knowing that Leylin was lazy and was making him work under a seemingly valid excuse, he shook his head and moved forward.

---

Odin was about to risk it all and even sacrifice his wind avatar to escape and, in time, get his revenge once his power grew enough. 'How come I, the Vile King Odin, ended driven into a corner by mere Gods?' His anger was overbearing but he had become a king within the Gebados Planar Prison after surviving for more than a million years. He had started as a weak Demigod, he knew how to wait for the right time and when to bow his head in order to survive.

It was at this moment that Beirut's voice arrived and the three Gods greeted respectfully. "Lord Father!" "Lord Beirut!" Odin cursed his luck as things were going from bad to worse at every passing moment. "Odin, it seems you are in luck... the Sovereign decided that the Necropolis of the Gods could use a new resident, are you willing?"

Reynolds blinked in surprise but he did not care much... in about a hundred years he will be leaving the Yulan Plane and perhaps even George and Yale would choose to travel with his family, it did not matter to him if Odin managed to escape the Necropolis of the Gods, and he was sure that Beirut will protect the Baruch Empire.

Odin was biting his lips, he understood that he would become a toy for the Sovereign but with Beirut here he had no chance of escaping anymore, he bowed his head and said. "I'm willing". His words almost chocked on his throat but Beirut seemed satisfied. He was wondering what kind of floor would Bluefire arrange for Odin as in his opinion the current Necropolis of the Gods was a better environment than the Gebados Planar Prison, and then he chuckled as he realized that Bluefire would probably create a floor without elemental essence and limiting the divine power to the minimum only to guarantee his survival or at least he would provide a similar environment than the one on the Gebados Planar Prison, but this time he would be alone...

"Good, let's go then". Beirut soon was on the way towards the entrance to the Necropolis of the Gods while Odin was considering the possibility of escape, but he suddenly felt a terrifying aura of unimaginable power looking on him and from that moment onward he did not dare to even take noise while breathing.

As Beirut and Odin disappeared Reynolds looked at the two brothers and said. "Harry, Harvey thank you for helping me or things might have gone wrong for me at the end..." Reynolds voice was sincere and even his mischievous smile did not break the effect.

Then Harvey looked expectantly at Reynolds and said. "It is rare for me to come all the way to the O'Brien Empire... should we start a few more rumors on the martyr goddess Catherine? How about that she is forced to calm the evil tendencies of the Divine Fire Snake using her body?" Harvey's eyes were shinning and Reynolds chuckled as he imagined Catherine's mortified face after listening to the new rumors and his smile brightened thinking of the fun days ahead.

Harry just shook his head and sighed resigned, then he offered his ideas pretending unwillingness. "Then how about we add to the rumors that the last priestess of the Goddess Frozen Shrine was the first offering to the Divine Fire Snake and..." Harvey and Reynolds eyes were shining as Harry spoke while Catherine and Rosarie suddenly shivered and wondered if something had gone wrong.

---

After a few hours Reynolds returned to his island and smiled to his family and friends. He took 84 interspatial rings and said to the surprised crowd. "This is part of the loot of battle, who wants to help me to see if there is any valuable things on these interspatial rings?" They blinked in surprise and smiled but before they could react Koral was already binding a few rings and started going through them with a delighted face, soon Jenne and Windsor joined giggling like little girls as they sat next to Koral.

They soon realized that there was not much wealth as the life within the Gebados Prison was hard and environment lacked in resources, but they found divine sparks from time to time and a few artifacts that along with the 82 divine sparks and the 2 Highgod divine sparks that Reynolds obtained from killing Odin's entourage would be a good starting capital for when they move to the Infernal Realm.

On the next few days Catherine seemed more irritable than usual and started sending murderous glares at Reynolds who smiled at her innocently and asked her if there was a problem while sporting a calm face that showed complete ignorance about her distress. Rosarie on the other hand was blushing and looked at her Master and husband with distressed eyes causing Reynolds to chuckle. She was happy for the faith energy but she decided not to paid attention to the shameful prayers calling her name, Reynolds smiled mischievously and picked her up in his arms to recreate some of the lore that Harry had created a few days ago, he muttered. "We cannot let their beliefs be without foundation..."

---

The 16th floor of the Necropolis of the Gods was an endless desert were no elemental essence could be found and even the divine power seemed to pass for a set of filters making it almost impossible for a Highgod to replenish his consumption. Odin was sitting cross-legged and his eyes seemed clouded as sand covered his body, but he seemed unaware of it.

"How did this happened to me? I had always being prepared for death and retribution... but this". He muttered to no one on this endless desert where he was the king... 'but can one still be a king if there is no one to be ruled over?' As this thought crossed his mind the last light in his eyes banished and despair took hold of his heart.
