The CEO's Rented Wife

Chapter 99 - Cunning Smith

Lina sat in her office as she handled the calling machine with much better efficiency. She had the list of the symbols in front of her on the computer. Although, she mixed up a lot many calls that were to be forwarded to other departments, she did not mix any of Wang's calls.

Lina wanted to go to Wang's office to apologize, but she was too scared to do that. Wang had slammed the office door behind him when he walked back to his office. He sat in his office totally focused on his laptop. Lina could see his angry face very clearly through the glass wall that separated her office from Wang's.

She sat on her seat dejected. "Should I go to Mr. Wang's office? But, what if he fires me from the job? Probably, I should wait for his anger to calm down," she decided.

As Lina watched Wang through the glass wall, Wang turned his face towards her. Lina felt shivers going down her spine. She immediately shifted her gaze towards the computer so as to avoid an eye contact with her boss.

Lina's office door opened suddenly. It was Smith. He walked into the room and spoke. "Lina, I'm going out. If there are any calls for me, just take the messages. You can divert any important calls to my mobile number." Smith instructed Lina as he began to walk out of the Lina's office, but stopped after observing Lina's sad face.

He walked towards Lina and sat on the seat opposite to her.  "Hmm.. Is Wang angry?" he asked. Smith could judge from Lina's expression that she was very worried. Smith had a look at Wang through the glass wall, and before Lina could reply to his question, he spoke. "So.. he is angry," he said as he smiled at Lina.

"I messed up everything today. I forwarded your calls to Mr. Wang, and Mr. Wang's calls to you. It was probably the call from Savoy's kitchen that made him very angry. He came to my room, shouted at me and slammed the door behind him," sighed Lina.

"Haha," Smith laughed a little. "Girl, let me tell you something that you still might not know about you," Smith tried to cheer up Lina. "The receptionist who works on this machine took many days to learn how to operate it. You learnt it in a few hours. You are such an intelligent girl," Smith praised.

"Intelligent? Me?" Lina was surprised, but Smith's praise did not fail to bring a smile on her face.

Wang had already noticed Smith sitting in Lina's office. He saw that Lina and Smith were smiling at each other as they talked.

"Yes, you are intelligent. And, you have a wonderful grasping. All you need to do is.. to be a little more organized," advised Smith.

"I know.. I am not an intelligent girl. But, thank you for motivating me," Lina said.

"Don't be so negative. Now, smile! Your smile can set all things right," winked Smith.

Lina gave a huge smile at Smith.

Making Lina smile was not what Smith was upto. He had something else in his mind. "Don't smile at me. Smile at that glass wall," he said.

Lina continued to smile as she looked towards the glass wall. Wang was surprised on seeing sudden change in Lina's mood.

"But, why do you want me to smile at the glass wall?" Lina asked as she continued to smile.

"There are many things that you will thank me for.. later in your life," giggled Smith.

Smith's trick worked like a charm. Wang stood up from his seat and walked into Lina's office. He stood in front of Lina's table and looked at both Smith and Lina.

"Hey, Wang! All set for the party? It's going to be fun!" giggled Smith as he looked at the CEO.

"What party? You know that I don't like parties. I am not going. I've send flowers for the host," said Wang. He looked at Lina and spoke again. "I asked you to send flowers. You've sent it, right?" Wang looked at Lina with a raised eyebrow.

Lina was scared. She had forgotten to send flowers. Smith secretly gestured her to say 'yes' to Wang.

"Y..yes, Mr. Smith. I've send the flowers already," Lina lied.
