The Chronicles Of Rhaxtyx

After picking a random subjugation mission from the board, Rhaxtyx went outside the city and into the small forest nearby. His mission was to subjugate the Black Leopard that appeared a week or so ago. This magical beast was known for its speed and it was mainly hunting under the cover of the night. It was a cunning and an intelligent beast so the guild recommended not to confront it face on.

"There's still some time until it becomes time so should I work on the chant of Firebolt? Or maybe the chant of other spells. Hmm… I have to wait until night if I want to fight with this beast so let's work the chant of Firebolt first."

He went inside the forest and arrived at the same clearing that he practiced yesterday. He stretched and put Badgey down on the ground. After looking at his target rock he lifted his right arm and began chanting.

*Boom*

*Thud*

"Ugh! Yeap. Still not there."

Rhaxtyx used the tree trunk he hit and stood up, cleaned the dust on him and began practicing chants. It was still near noon so he had a lot of time to practice. He was supposed to hunt the Black Leopard and he was told that it would be impossible to find it until it was night. Therefore he reconstructed his chants one by one. There were explosion sounds coming from the forest occasionally and the city guard was alerted. If it weren't for the Adventurers Guild interfering and said it was them, Rhaxtyx would be arrested and interrogated. He had his own problems though. Every fiery explosion came with the risk of a forest fire and he had to be careful of that as well.

It was finally night time. The song of the crickets began and the fireflies were dancing to it. In the middle of it all, in a small clearing battered with craters and sign of a battle was a young man sitting with crossed legs and meditating. This was Rhaxtyx focusing on what he knew and learned. He couldn't find anything with the way he did since now so he was trying a different approach.

He was breathing slowly and steadily. His ears twitched and he opened his eyes.

"It's time you showed up."

He got up and walked inside the forest. He moved, unfazed by the darkness, and arrived under a tree. He lifted his arm and fired a single line Firebolt. It illuminated its immediate area when it passed by and as it passed the tree that Rhaxtyx was aiming towards a black creature came into view.

This was the Black Leopard Rhaxtyx was aiming for. It jumped down from the tree and walked in circles. It never approached Rhaxtyx and it never took its eyes off of him. Rhaxtyx matched its pace and walked in circles too, never breaking the eye contact.

Each was trying to estimate the other's capabilities. Even though Rhaxtyx knew about this beast, it was superficial knowledge. He never saw anything like this beast back in his world. They circled each other a couple of times. As if understanding the situation, even the crickets were silent. The wild life was as if watching this encounter. Except for Badgey, it was lying down and cleaning itself.

The first move came from the Black Leopard. It growled and a black mist came out of its body. And in but a moment, it disappeared! Rhaxtyx lifted his eyebrows and looked around.

"Damn this beast is clever. But too bad. I know you are coming from behind me!"

Rhaxtyx took a step to the right and evaded the panthers attack. He smiled and began chanting.

{Go fast, at the speed of sound, sonic boom!}

*Inhale*

"ROAR!" (Rhaxtyx)

*Boom*

After inhaling, Rhaxtyx roared like a lion and with a boom the surrounding roots and rocks was sent flying. The leopard stood its ground but with the rocks and wood splinters hitting it, it had to take a step backward and growled in pain. It eyes reflected its anger and pounced on Rhaxtyx with a vicious look.

Rhaxtyx evaded once more and smiled. He chanted again for a Firebolt this time.

But this time the leopard evaded. The Firebolt hit a rock and cracked it. The leopard then growled again and disappeared from Rhaxtyx's view once more. This time instead of evading, Rhaxtyx chanted for a Sonic Boom and turned around while inhaling. When he turned, the leopard has already pounced at him. Their gazes met and Rhaxtyx bellowed.

The leopard could not evade this time. Sonic Boom hit it point blank and its eardrums were ruptured. The shockwave blasted him towards a tree and as it hit, the tree was broken through. It tumbled on the ground before hitting a rock and stopping. The rock was cracked because of the impact and the leopard was not in a good shape as well. Its head was hurting and blood was coming out from its ears. It was shaking its head and was stumbling around.

"Hehe. Point blank 'Sonic Boom' is not half bad. I wonder how it'll be once I use the second line."

He slowly stepped towards the leopard. When it saw him approach, it tried to ready for a strike but its head was still aching. Rhaxtyx smiled and talked once he was near the leopard.

"Sorry mate. But you got Rhax't"

{Go fast, at the speed of sound, sonic boom!}

He chanted but before he could unleash the spell he felt a blood thirst behind him. He stepped left to dodge. From the presence of mana he felt, the assassin that killed the original Rax was attacking him. At the same time the Black Leopard was pouncing at him. He could dodge easily but he did not want this assassin to die as he was having fun dealing with them.

'Sh*t!' he thought and chanted for a two line Firebolt thinking what the hell.

And manifest your wrath upon my foes!}

He raised his arm and aimed at the Black Leopard. The mana fluctuated violently, even the assassin could feel it easily and their eyes were widened with shock. The leopard was emitting black mist all over itself and it was confident that it would kill its opponent with this strike. But when it felt the mana fluctuations coming from Rhaxtyx's hand, it understood its fate.

*Growl. W.h.i.n.e*

"Oh no…" (Assassin)

"Ohhhh sh*t." (Rhaxtyx)

After this moment, a flash appeared and engulfed everything inside a hundred meter radius. After the dust settled, Rhaxtyx was on the ground, sitting beside tree trunk. Only the root section was remaining. The assassin was lying near another tree trunk that was in the same condition and the leopard was hanging from a tree, not moving.

Rhaxtyx stood up but was nearly falling again. He supported himself with the trunk and looked around. There wasn't much happening. The blast removed the top layer of dirt around and some of the trees were broken in the middle. His ears were ringing heavily and caused his head to ache. His body was burning with pain all over. When he looked down, almost all of his clothes were ripped.

"...….uck! God damn it I just bought these! Ow ow ow. My hearing's back. Sssss it itches!"

He started to hear in the middle of his sentence and started to scratch his ears violently. He looked towards the leopard and smiled.

"Victory is mine! But I'll deal with you later."

He walked towards the assassin. Their clothes were ripped as well, exposing their face and their body a bit. Long crimson hair was hanging, covering their face. The exposed skin was fair white and looked like taken care of regularly. When Rhaxtyx pulled the hair away from the face, he whistled to what he saw. A cute face of a sleeping woman. He took her chin and examined her face.

"Somewhat beautiful. Her skills are good as well. Maybe… But for that I have to take care of her stalker first. Am I right, mister stalker?"

He spoke while looking at a nearby branch. He saw a crow perched up there that was looking directly towards them. Rhaxtyx felt a mana link between this crow and the assassin just now. He lifted his right arm and aimed towards the crow and chanted.

The Firebolt travelled fast and hit accurately to the crow.

*Kaw!*

With a one final cry it burst into flames and only its feathers were remaining to tell of its existence. Rhaxtyx sighed and sat near the assassin. She was still unconscious and he did not know when she would wake up.

While he was waiting, Badgey was sniffing around near the leopard. It seemed to be interested in this beast. Rhaxtyx saw this and fearing his mission would be food to it shooed Badgey away.

Meanwhile a man looking at a crystal ball was tapping his fingers on the table.

"Hmm… He is good I'll give him that. But I'll let you go now. I have more important things to attend to."

Rhaxtyx was almost bored to sleep when the assassin started to wake up. She made a cute voice when waking up and this made Rhaxtyx smile.

'So even a vicious assassin can make sounds like that.'

She opened her eyes and Rhaxtyx met her gaze. He smiled and raised his arm.

"Hello. You almost slept until morning. I was worried that you were actually sleeping there for a moment."

She looked at Rhaxtyx and lifted one of her eyebrows. When she did that a strand of her hair fell on her cheek and when she touched it she felt skin instead of the usual cloth. She widened her eyes and jumped to her feet. With a flash she threw something at Rhaxtyx and began running.

*Poof*

Something blasted in front of her feet and she abruptly stopped. When she looked at the ground she saw a small crater the size of a fist was created and when she looked behind her Rhaxtyx was aiming his hand directly to that crater. He spoke slowly with a weird accent.

"Haah. Why are you running? Why are you running? Because I saw your face? It's not that bad actually. You don't have to hide it that much." (Rhaxtyx)

"I failed at an assassination, again. I left a witness to the assassination before so I came to kill you. But I was exposed. I failed." (Assassin)

"You don't have to worry that much. I mean you won't have to if you don't tell anyone right?"

"I'm always being watched. I have to report and proceed with planning."

"Oh? Watched? You mean the crow that was looking at you? That is some pervert of a crow I tell you. And a dead one. Even became food! That bastard over there ate it."

Rhaxtyx pointed at Badgey and the assassin looked with visible confusion.

"What?"

"I felt a mana link between you and some crow so I killed it to have a private conversation."

When Rhaxtyx said this, the assassin's eyebrows were lifted and her eyes were narrowed.

"You don't believe me? You must know about the mana link if you know you were being watched so try to feel it."

The assassin closed her eyes and focused. When she felt that the link was broken she opened her eyes abruptly and looked at Rhaxtyx who was smiling smugly.

"Told ya. So, I have a proposal for you…"
