The Chronicles Of Rhaxtyx

Chapter 31 - Unwavering Trust

Rhaxtyx and Miriam went to the West gate in the morning. As he told, Roman was waiting there by a horse carriage. He was doing a final check up when they got there. He was too busy that he didn't even realize they came.

"Roman! Good morning my man!" (Rhaxtyx)

"Oh, good morning to you too! Everything's ready for the road ahead."

"Nice nice. So? How long will this journey be?"

"I just have to tolerate your face for a week!"

"Hey that's mean!"

"Hahah! Sorry couldn't resist! We should start the road; we best use the sunlight to our advantage. We'll enter the Helenia Forest for the majority of the road so I want to go further in today."

"You're the boss there!"

Rhaxtyx climbed in and saw that Miriam was already seated; she actually was sitting on a cushion.

"Hey where did you find the cushion?"

"It was here."

"Roman is there any more cushions?"

"That privilege is only for the ladies."

"What?! Dude that's s.e.xist!"

"You prefer I treat you like a woman too?"

"…Okay you win."

Thus they departed towards Vulca City; a city so close to the border that it is almost independent. Before they left for good, the sergeant stopped them and gave Rhaxtyx a small pouch containing 25 silver pieces.

"This is?" (Rhaxtyx)

"A small thank you for your services and for your patience."

"Well I'm not going to reject money."

While pocketing the money given to him, an idea popped up in Rhaxtyx's head and turned to the sergeant once more while smiling.

"If you are open for more business deals, I can give you a one-time offer."

"What… kind of offer are you talking about exactly?"

"Armor and weapons. Of course! We have top quality goods in tow."

"I… don't think I have the authority to make that decision."

"Well it's your loss sergeant. Let's go Roman."

"Okay!"

They had the chance to get to know each other more thoroughly in this journey. When Rhaxtyx asked, Roman told of his past to him quite easily, meaning he was beginning to trust him a little bit more. Apparently he was also once an adventurer.

"Although I don't have the blessings of the mana, I can find my way in a dark forest most of the time and can take care of myself in the wild. I even once took part in a rare magical creature by chance! Although that was my last time wielding a sword as an adventurer, I still remember it fondly."

"Why did you quit?" (Rhaxtyx)

"A lot of reasons really. Mostly I started yearning for a stable place, a calmer life. You know, simpler times."

"Why the sudden change into a blacksmith?" (Miriam)

"Ah miss! You finally spoke huh? Well I'm a son of a blacksmith myself. When I was younger, I always wanted to live an action-packed life. That's why I became an adventurer in the first place. But because I was a son of a blacksmith, I grew up with all kinds of stories about them. I remembered those stories and opened up my shop. And that's also why I decided to come with you."

"I see. Well I'm fine if you're happy about it." (Rhaxtyx)

"It's fine! I get a chance to see all those legends. Even if they are not true or I can't see them, I can still learn a thing or to and be a better blacksmith."

"That's the spirit! Always look to the bright side!"

"What about you? I know almost nothing about you."

"I don't think you will take it though. So I was trying to post-pone it until we were better friends."

"I can take it. C'mon! Shoot!"

"Okay, you asked for it."

Rhaxtyx, after taking in a deep breath and bracing himself, slowly lifted his and Miriam's {Disguise}. When Roman saw this, he was surprised at first but when he saw Rhaxtyx's real face, especially his hair and eye colors, he was shocked and scared. He heard that the Kingdom was searching for a white haired person but he put off those town cries as just a rumor and a trigger to keep people way but when he saw the truth, he wanted to get away. Rhaxtyx felt his fear and tried to calm him down.

"Hi there! I'm Rhaxtyx, the God of Magic. And this is Miriam, an ex-assassin from the Dynasties I believe you said right?"

"Mhm."

"A-a-a d-d-demon! Demon!"

"I just told you who I am though. Okay stop the cart, I'll tell you about myself thoroughly okay?"

Rhaxtyx reached out to Roman but he slapped his hand to the side and stopped the carriage. He jumped right away and took a sword with him while doing that. He ran to a tree nearby and pointed the sword towards Rhaxtyx.

"Stay there and speak clearly!" (Roman)

"Why does every single person treat me like that?!" (Rhaxtyx)

"Because you look just like a-" (Miriam)

"Just like a demon yeah I know. Look Roman, I am the same person that you met the other day."

"I know! What they tell about demons are real after all!"

"Really what do they tell you about these demons?"

"You use deceit and charm people and when you are done with them you suck their soul out of them!"

"Oh I won't do anything like that! Plus, you don't look that tasty either."

"So you ate people before?" (Miriam)

"Nope, I just watched them from my domain."

"Domain? You are a high leveled demon?! I thought they only existed in ancient legends!"

"No. I'm not from this world. I was forcefully summoned here by another person. I am, or was, the God governing all magic and mana in a world called 'Grelia'."

"Grelia? I never heard a kingdom with that name before." (Roman)

"Because that's another world. It has two suns and it is fairly bright, especially at noon."

Roman took a deep breath and looked at Rhaxtyx's eyes. He didn't feel any threat coming from them but it could be a spell as well.

"There is also the fact that you can't use magic so why would want to eat your soul if I was a demon?"

"…Good point."

It really was a good point. Demons only ate the souls of those with the blessings of mana. He who didn't have an ounce of mana was not a target from the very beginning.

"Let's say that I believe you, what is an assassin from those barbarians here?!"

"First of all, you are right they are barbarians. Second, I'm not affiliated with them anymore. Master broke that link." (Miriam)

"Wha… What? Master?"

"Oh I proposed her to come with me and she suddenly accepted me as her master. Believe me I talked to her about this but she only calls me that."

"Hmmmmmm…" (Roman)

"I-I promise. Really!"

"I can't… really do anything about it anyway. If you wanted my life you would've taken it already. And since I can't turn on my word now as I completely emptied the shop, I have no choice but to trust your words."

"Thank you man! So! Shall we keep going?"

"Haah… Let's go. But I want to ask about this you being the 'God' of 'Magic' and stuff. As far as I know there's no gods among humans that calls themselves that."

"Oh I know that already! Here it is…"

Rhaxtyx then talked about his world, Grelia to the group and what he would do there. He talked about his various experiments and how one day when he was in the middle of an experiment an unfamiliar crimson magic circle appeared in his domain. He talked about Angeline a little bit as well, but he withheld the part in Leilo and her 'real' background.

"It's a shame. I'm sorry that you had to part your ways." (Roman)

"I'm sure we'll meet again. I miss her already."

"Why don't we look for her?"

"No need. I feel we'll meet eventually so no need to rush for now."

"If you say so."

And their journey continued. While they were passing through Helenia Forest, Rhaxtyx got a lot of chances to practice and do more experiments.

Rhaxtyx would construct and practice his chants along the way. They would hunt occasionally and make their meals that way. With this, Rhaxtyx and Miriam also made their cooperation better with each fight.

*Clang!*

*Swish*

"Where is it?" (Rhaxtyx)

"Behind the rock. It is wounded right now." (Miriam)

"That damnable… Still trying to escape!?"

It was their first week of travel and they were currently chasing a feline magical beast. It was wounded as Miriam said and was bleeding from its left eye. Its brown fur had patches of red on it. Rhaxtyx was running after it and was chanting a one line Firebolt. But before he could say the second word Badgey came out from behind one of the rocks in front of the beast and caught it from its throat with its mouth.

Badgey left a victory screech while Rhaxtyx came and lifted the beast from its tail.

"That's what you get for stealing our dinner! Now let's take our dinner from its mouth shall we." (Rhaxtyx)

There was a brown rabbit hanging from this beast's mouth, unmoving. Its meat was a little bit damaged around the neck area but that didn't matter. This plump rabbit would fill their stomachs easily. Roman was waiting for them with a vegetable soup he prepared.

"What took you so long? Its just a Horn Cat" (Roman)

"Just… don't. Okay?" (Rhaxtyx)

"What did I say?"

Miriam shrugged her shoulder to that. They ate their meal with laughter even after that. They were becoming good friends after a couple of days of being together. In those conditions you were forced to be like that actually. After dinner, Rhaxtyx got up and talked with a smile.

"Thanks for the meal Roman! I'll keep watch. I have to practice my chants as well."

"Okay. Good night." (Miriam)

"One day you're going to cause a forest fire." (Roman)

"Don't say that! G'night."

Rhaxtyx stood up while Miriam and Roman went to sleep. He walked a small distance from the camp and looked around him, scanning with his eyes and with his mana. There were no one around him so he relaxed and aimed at a rock.

Hurl at my foes and-

*Boom*

*Slam*

Rhaxtyx was launched at the tree behind him, his ears were ringing and the ground had scorch marks on it. Meaning the chant he tried was not that powerful. He was trying to construct a suitable chant for 'Blast Echo' for a while now but he was unsuccessful yet. 'Sonic Boom' was completed in a short while but this spell did not want a chant it seemed.

"Is it because it is a fusion spell? This is going to be a pain in the a.s.s. And the head. Torso and arms as well. Haah. Let's try again…"
