The Devil's Bride

Chapter 9 - The wedding procession

Finally, the day has come for the devil's wedding procession. Today, Count Vladimir, who will be leading the group will announce which princess will become the chosen bride.

Everyone in Hemsford were nervous about it. The citizens had close every windows and doors of their houses since the day turn to dusk, knowing that the procession will be passing through the town. They fear that the night creatures will be tempted to take their blood when the creatures pass their house.

They put inside their house all possible items to scare away the creatures, garlic, holy water, silver stake, cross, anything that they could think of. Some of them opened a wine to celebrate the occasion, being happy for their luck because soon they won't have to worry about being attack by the night creatures anymore, shameless! They were enjoying their lives in exchange for one of the princess's misery.

King Lionel has no other choice other than giving up one of his daughter to be the devil's bride. He couldn't find any solution in order not to let this happen because day by day numbers of his people had became the vampires' and the werewolves' victim. It is like the night creatures were attacking them on purpose, putting the royal on edge, forcing him to commit to the contract.

All of the King's family member and the rest of his royal advisors and ministers had gather at the royal hall, waiting for the time. They were sitting close to each other, gloomily.

Excluding Princess Isabelle who was not eligible to be the bride, all princesses wore a wedding gown with veil covering their face. The three princesses though being scared that they almost cry, had decided that they will accept their fate courageously if chosen.

The clock tower strike to midnight when they heard howls coming from where the Dark Forest located. The howling was loud that it brings fear to everyone who heard it. Cold sweat and trembling, every person felt that all the hair on their body was standing up.

Every one minute there will be another howls, and each howls sound closer, stating that the procession were marching to the palace.

The Queen Dowager Alexandria couldn't hold back anymore that she burst to tears.

"I'm so sorry my dear granddaughters, grandma could not give you any help, I'm so useless, living a life for so long didn't make me any wiser to help you find any solution"

"Mother please don't say it like that, we tried but nothing could be done to cancel the contract" said Queen Helena. She was in her tears as well. She had been praying for any solution but to no vail.

"One of us will be selected, and the rest will be free, so please don't be too sad grandma and mother. Everything will soon be fine and the people will be safe" said Princess Kathleen to the both ladies. Although she was trying to console them, it is actually her trying to calm herself.

"Sister Kath was right grandma, mother. Please don't cry, we will be sad to leave if you send us like this, this is for our kingdom, we will be happy to do it" added Princess Anne and Princess Lily nod to her words.

"There will be a chance for the bride to return to Hemsford once she give birth to the devil's child because from the record, only one child could be produce from a princess, your majesty" said the head minister.

"Then the devil will ask for another bride to give him more child" said the king worriedly. He couldn't help himself from getting worried that the devil will ask for more bride.

"Fortunately for us, there will be only one bride in a century, your majesty. The contract clearly stated that the devil will ask for 'a bride' every century and he couldn't possibly stand against his own blood contract" said Sir Robert. Robert Langdon was the commander in chief of King Lionel's army. He had fought and kill many vampires and werewolves.

"If that so then I'm glad that there is a possibility for the bride to return home and no more victim, but still one of the princesses will have to leave tonight and this situation didn't make me happy" said the king.

"Your majesty, the Count has arrive with his entourage" announced one of the guard who has run from the main door to the hall.

Once the guard announced Count Vladimir's arrivals, the Count entered the hall. Everyone turned their eyes to the man who was walking in like he owned the palace. Two huge werewolf were walking at each side of the Count. The creatures that walked side by side with their leader were bigger than war horse, taller than a normal soldier, their fangs were visible to everyone that it terrified all of them. A normal person can be easily break apart by those fangs without any chance to fight back.

"Greetings royals and ladies and gentlemen. I can see that everyone is in a pink of health" said the Count while looking around to everyone's faces. His words brings shiver to their spine.

"Enough with your nonsense talk Count Vladimir, did your king made his decision?" asked King Lionel. He could feel his blood pressure rise just from looking at the Count's face.

Count Vladimir look like a gentleman himself with his black suit, a single eye glasses attached to his left eye, and his pocket watch chain can be seen on the left side of his suit.

He gave a sinister smile when he heard the king.

"I'm sure my master the King will be very glad to hear that you are so eager to know which Rose he has chose" mock the Count still with his signature smile.

Everyone lost their words to the Count's remark.

"Let's not waste more time, shall we" said the Count. "The next devil's bride is... Princess Kathleen Rose Rosenberg!"
