The Last Abyssal, Tyrannical Pet

Chapter 24 - Contract Clauses

"Please calm down. Don't misunderstand, you are not in that sort of contract by any means! Rather, you happen to have made the third kind, the rarest, Soul Linked Contract." Chen Yan explained quickly. She didn't want to make this tiger angry again. She started to think he had anger issues, even though much of his anger was justified.

"Really? Then speak, how am I not a slave?" Thankfully this tiger was the reasonable type, and didn't jump to conclusions, unlike a lot of characters she'd seen in novels that lead to long winded unnecessary journeys and tragic conclusions that could've been resolved with a bit of explanation.

"This contract is very different, and only happens when both contractors willingly agree to equal terms, and often has a few more benefits such as supplementing growth or natural soul communion. But it depends on compatibility and good relationsh.i.p.s with each other to get such benefits." Even though it doesn't seem like it, she was trying her hardest to make the explanation easy to understand. Though it was still full of complicated terms that clearly fl.u.s.tered the tiger. He was staring at her blankly again as if slowly absorbing and comprehending the information.

She waited until he grew more focused before she continued.

"The reason this contract isn't as common is that the contract can be broken by either party at any time. But due to a natural feeling of superiority of us humans to the beasts, so an equal relationship is clearly out of the question, and another reason is that beasts do not trust humans often, thus often leading to a weak relationship, and thus low benefits. Because of these reasons, one or the other would usually break the contract sooner or later." She had finished the rest of her explanation in one breadth, unlike her previous one on general contracts.

Actually, to be honest, she had left out the soul link part on purpose, to let him think he was a slave. Because even though she looked kind(her personal opinion), it's not like she was gonna forget that time he tried to kill her five minutes ago. She believed she was justified in a little prank, and she was, as one doesn't just forgive someone who tried to kill you. That would be ridiculous. Unless, of course, you're either an innocent child who doesn't really get it, or a naive protagonist who thinks all life is precious and that killing is wrong and all that pacifist stuff, even though they can kill monsters and animals without a second thought no matter how innocent they were. But all that's irrelevant. By the time all that was thought by Chen Yan, the tiger had long since finished thinking.

"...You said such a contract was made 'willingly', yes? But I did not agree to this at all!!! How am I in your whatever soul link contract?!" It was apparent that he wasn't as full as she had thought, and had found a discrepancy.

"Right. This is exactly what I was reading up on. For you and my sister, apparently your souls resonated. This means they're perfectly compatible with each other. So upon stimulus, such as intense exercise and a bite, they resonated and formed a natural bond, like two streams converging into one. Or two puzzle pieces joining together" She explained with new terms he had definitely never heard of before, but they came out of her mouth without thinking of that.

"..." Instead of asking the meanings of the words, he slowly tried to figure it out himself. This was because he was kind of sick of all her talking and new words.

"So what does this mean for me, what terms did I not agree to but have to do anyway?" He gave up on understanding, and instead asked how this 'link' will affect him.

"This means that your high compatibility has the greatest benefits of the contract. Soul communion anywhere, anytime. You can feel each other's location and feelings, know when they're in danger, supplement one another's abilities, and increase each other's growth." But the more she said the more the tiger's eyes narrowed.

"...and?" He sounded suspicious. He obviously knows the concept of risk and return.

"... and if one of you dies the other will as well." She had sorta wanted to avoid that, as based on his previous behavior, he would take it as a threat.

"...and??" As expected, she didn't know how, but his eyes narrowed even more and a scowl showed up strangely clearly on his chubby, furry face.

"...and no one can break the contract, not even you two, because the soul compatibility is just that high."

"...and???" His eyes might as well be closed by now but a glint of malicious wrath glinted from what slit was left.

"...and you share pain too." She had wanted to keep this until something happened to pronounce the the effect, but it all came out at once.

"...and????" He could narrow his eyes no longer, and instead tried to move closer to increase his pressure. But he forgot he could not move and only ended up slightly stretching his neck.

"...and that's it I swear." She was unsure of why everything came out, but it might have something to do with him starting to look a little cute just lying there. She had almost forgotten that he was just a tiger cub.

"...and?????" He did not let up. But he was rightly suspicious as she had already withheld quite a bit of info before.

"And nothing. That's all." She pouted, unsure of how to convince him. When suddenly...

"That's enough Xiaohei! Don't bully my sister, I read the book too and I swear she's not lying!"

"..."

"..."

"What did you just call me?"
