The Last Abyssal, Tyrannical Pet

Chapter 46 - “That” Kind Of Teacher

The class itself was fine, and generally uneventful. Hades felt like he had no idea what was going on. It wasn't a surprise, as he hadn't even had basic curriculum, and it's a little silly to expect a cat to have college level education anyway.

In the end he mostly stared at the front dazedly, slowly trying to comprehend their words.

"It's okay Xiaohei, I'm not good at math either!" Suya comforted him with a smile.

"I don't need your pity. There were no such complex systems where I come from." He said with furrowed brows that looked rather endearing.

"Of course not! There's no school that teaches cats math anywhere!" She laughed at him.

He nodded, though they were clearly talking about different things.

Then they went to music theory class, the elective she chose. This was her favorite, not surprisingly.

"Music... what purpose does it serve?" Hades asked, deep in thought. At this question, Chen Yan got a little excited.

"Music in itself can be considered another language, but it's closer to the most primal form of communication, sounds and rhythm, when words did not exist. Today music is used to convey thoughts and feelings that words are unable to! When music can move your heart and soul, that's when it's the most beautiful. And just like how a flower can attract bees and butterflies, a touching song can gather the support of many people, and I think that's amazing!" This was the most enthusiastic Hades had ever seen her, and she had ended up mixing in her own opinions near the end as well. Suya giggled while Chen Yan blushed, and he was once again lost in thought.

"I see, so music is a form of charisma that attracts allies. It affects the heart and soul to pull in others like insects to a sweet scent. In other words, it's a brainwashing technique!" He opened his eyes abruptly as he came to this conclusion. But then his head was smacked by Chen Yan.

"Don't make my passion sound like something so sinister." She scolded. Suya on the other hand put her finger on her chin and laughed.

"But I have to say, he might have a point! Music does make people have thought and feelings they didn't specifically ask for. But Xiaohei, it's different because people enjoy it and want to listen!" She tried to explain to him. Xiaohei once again sank into thought.

"Then... a hallucinogen?" Which prompted another head slap.

"Anyway, Yanyan! This cat seems a lot more clever than other ones I've seen! Where'd you get it?" She was curious, because rarely did a beast other than man have such complex thinking processes in this world.

"Hmph! Don't compare me to those bunch of devolved fools! Those fools who're so stupid to be degraded into slaves and servants with their lives depending on a hand to feed them! They're so weak, I slaughtered dozens just the other day! Foolish things who can do nothing except follow orders!" Hades scowled as he ranted on about slaves and stupid beasts.

"Haha! Aren't you one too though?" Questioned Suya.

"Hmph, I'm different that those pathetic cowards. I have an equal contract." He harrumphed, insulted.

"Oh! That kind of contract isn't that common now is it?

"Yeah, But they had no choice in the matter anyway, their souls were so compatible they automatically formed an unbreakable contract."

"Ooh! Lucky!" As if that wasn't something almost completely unprecedented.

"Hmph, I would have killed them if it wasn't for that contract!"

In the meanwhile, they had already arrived at the next class. But at the door, the previously energetic girls' faces fell.

Hades was curious, but he didn't ask, as that was trouble for the humans.

"This is English class." Said Suya, less energetic than before. "It's not exactly our favorite."

"What is English?"

"It's another human language." Chen Yan's face picked up a little at another of his ignorant questions, as if distracting herself.

"You have more than one languages for your species? What purpose could that possibly have? He had never heard of such a thing.

"It doesn't, it just kind of worked out like that." Chen Yan's bad mood could be felt through her weak explanation.

This only made Hades more curious. What could've happened? Is something wrong with this class?

But the answer soon became clear when the lecturer walked in.

"Welcome back everyone!" It was a thin, blondie man. He looked tall and gallant, and had a textbook smile that came out of a storybook. Xiaohei concluded that he fit the dictionary definition of handsome.

At his entrance both the human girls' faces shifted drastically into disgust and loathing.

He wasn't as ignorant with those feelings than with others, and could immediately tell the reason for their mood.

But none of them acted upon it so he did not either.

The lesson was normal enough, he listened attentively to see how this language differs from Chinese.

Strangely, it seemed completely different, though he would have no trouble learning from scratch he presumed.

The situation changed when he was handing out grades though.

He noticed that compared to the males, the female students scored less. He wondered why, this trend wasn't present in other classes after all.

Many of the girls had gloomy looks on their faces. He noticed that it was the more attractive females that got the lowest grades.

Chen Yan in particular was fuming. Her number was on the verge of failing. She immediately went up to the front and slammed the paper onto the desk.

"What's the meaning of this?!" She shouted with a face that could make demons cower in fear. But the man didn't move a muscle on his face.

"Whatever do you mean, Ms. Chen?" He said with a face of worry.

"I know I got most of the answers right! How dare you give me this grade! I know what you're doing! Enough is enough!" Her every muscle twitched like they would explode at any second.

"I believe there's a misunderstanding here, Ms. Chen. Maybe you didn't study hard enough, how about you come after class..." Then, as he walked past, he made a face like a pig looking at the most luxurious meal.

"...and we can talk about it."
