The Last Abyssal, Tyrannical Pet

Chapter 77 - Moondance Wolves

The regal aura of the large silver wolf was extremely powerful. He couldn't feel anything but respect for it. But instead he retreated further into the shadows, he did not want to make any mistakes. Though the large wolf's eyes were closed in slumber, he did not dare to underestimate it. It was several meters long at first glance, an extremely formidable presence among the other wolves, where even the black ones appeared to be a little over 2 meters long.

By the large silver wolf's side was a far smaller wolf, around a meter and a half long, including the tail. The small wolf was silver as well, though its presence was obviously lacking compared to its larger counterpart.

Despite this, this wolf held a certain kind of unmistakable grace and charisma. It's movements were elegant, proud, and dignified as its gaze swept over the pack occasionally. It's eye's we're also a pale silver reminiscent of the moon, as if the moon twelfths was present in its eyes. It was clearly more enthusiastic than the other about watching the pack.

He observed both of them. From the distance between them, as well as the small one's energy, he determined that they were parent and child. He was near certain that, from the small wolf's diligence to the pack, it was the heir to their wolf kingdom.

But it was still imm.a.t.u.r.e, he could faintly feel that it's cultivation was just a bit higher than his own, though he was certain he could definitely kill it in a single stroke the way he was now. He could also tell that the large wolf would not die of old age anytime soon, as it was brimming with vitality despite its aged aura.

He understood that the small wolf must've been hunting to hone itself when he met it, and as the next heir, was able to bring dozens of lower wolves along as its hunting pack.

He had seen enough. It was time to return. He retreated into the shadows he was hiding in, and had just turned back when a female's voice appeared in his head.

"You have already come. Why leave so soon?"

His head immediately whipped back to see flashing silver eyes that were like full moons on a still lake, staring straight at him.

He was shocked, that a beast of this time was able to notice his apex stealth skill honed from a millennia of hunting in the bloody Abyss, where all beasts knew the basics of a predator's hide and seek. They those with bad hiding skills died quickly and those with bad perception skills died just as quickly. One must have both skills, or they could never survive in the abyss.

Could it be that he had underestimated the beasts of this time? Could it have something to do with cultivation? Was the difference between them just that big? Thoughts swirled in his head on how he was discovered.

"Don't just stand there, why don't you come to meet us?" A soothing voice like the song of a lark wriggled it's way into his brain. Does this wolf know a form of soul communion, like Chen Yan? He reserved the question as he stepped out of the shadows.

He figured he had a better chance of living if he cooperated, as he could feel the difference in strength between them. Even with his battle prowess, he could feel that he would die in ten moves merely with its physical prowess. Is this the true power of cultivation?

He also thought that trying to run later would make no difference from now, as his presence was already discovered.

Upon his emergence, all the surrounding wolves flew in a frenzy as howls rang in every direction as he was instantly surrounded. Though they could sense his low cultivation, they dared not underestimate him as he managed to infiltrate so far under their watch.

A single low, beautiful howl resonated in the air like ripples in water, and the wolves received the order to stand by.

When he looked to the wolf matriarch, who was watching him calmly, he heard the frantic barking of the small silver wolf.

From his limited knowledge of primitive wolf language from the abyss, he could determine that it recognized him, and was telling its mother all about their encounter. Though he was sure that she already knew all about it. He tried to see if she can read his thoughts.

"If you think I can read your mind, then I cannot. A high level beast can only transmit thought, not read them." She seemed to notice his problem

With no choice, he had to speak in abyssal wolf tongue, barking in unfamiliar patterns. He attempted to speak humbly, so they could tell he meant no harm. All the wolves sort of got the point, but they all creased their eyebrows. It sounded like a wolf language, but they could barely make sense of it. To them, it sounded like someone trying to speak Korean to a Chinese person. Though they were both eastern human languages, they were completely different.

"Hmm. Are you using a wolf language? Ive never heard this one before, and the dialect is very unfamiliar, I can't understand a word." It was natural that they couldn't recognize it, as it was a language that was outdated by many lifetimes.

"I can sense that your soul is extraordinarily strong for your cultivation. How strange, but convenient. I believe that you might be able to learn the one way telepathy skill." The wolf smiled gently and transmitted a mysterious method of thought to him.

Was this a soul technique? It seemed somewhat simple, but the requirements it had on strength of soul were high. Usually only a beast of at least Golden Core stage could learn it. Though his soul was strong for his body, as it came from a millennia old abyssal beast countless years in the past. It was only natural that his soul was slightly abnormal.

"Interesting. I greet you, Wolf Matriarch. You can call me Hades. I apologize for my uninvited intrusion. I can leave if you so wish." As he faced a powerful beast, he spoke respectfully, contrary to his normal attitude. Only a being whose strength he acknowledged could earn his respect.

"Welcome, Hades, to our Moondance Wolf tribe."
