The Lazy System's Path

Chapter 4 - You Will Finally Have Your Favorite Sleep and Peace

As time passes by, Argen's memory about what he had learnt back in SA, slowly started to deteriorate. The reason? Why would you remember something you don't take interest of? Even if it was necessary and needed to do so, it was already within human nature to naturally forget something they didn't put their eyes on.

For example, next Friday would be examination day. Even if you don't want to, you were forced to study and when the exam came, you passed. After a month, when you tried to recall most of the lessons, obviously some parts had already been forgotten. Added to the fact that you didn't really like those particular subjects to begin with, it was without saying, remembering them was already a massive achievement.

More than a month has already passed and Argen's host had successfully advanced to Earthly Martial 3. During this time, the SA's Informant practically has maintained its silence. It does not need to always advise System no. 901 daily. But it did once say the facts to Argen about how his host was the weakest one ever been chosen since the beginning of the association. Of course, Argen was pissed and helpless.

Receiving a system doesn't actually rely completely on luck but also talent. If more than one person, with the qualifications, so happen to be on a life and death situation at the same time where the system was dispatched, the qualified person with the highest potential among the others would always be chosen. There wasn't a lack of people dying every second so a lot of choices would always appear and there's the large possibility of choosing a good host.

But Argen's luck was really terrible and so happens to choose a second where only one person was qualified, furthermore someone with trash potential. The Rubik's cube even guffawed in its mind.

'Birds of a feather do flock together! Hahaha!'

Currently the host, with Argen inside his mental world, was currently treading another region of the wide forbidden forest. He had spent his time in the forest ever since he was thrown in here to die and he had already collected 2 of the necessary ingredients needed to complete his first assignment.

'I will get my revenge and get stronger! I will make them pay a thousand----no, A MILLION times for what they had done to me! Just you wait you damn rascals' Determination and burning rage swirling inside of Argen's host.

Since Argen could also read his mind, he comforted himself when he heard his host's thoughts. At least he got a host with burning resolve. Surely hardwork and determination will bridge the gap between geniuses right? Right.

'Can this plain white mental world be changed when he gets stronger? I want to live in another scenery. A beautiful castle on the middle of a small mystical island hovering on space perhaps? With planets and shooting stars to enhance the celestial feel. Yeah. That would be nice.' After getting bored looking at the same look and color of this mental world every time he opens his eyes, he decided to ask of this to the SA's Informant. Before he could open his mouth, his host summoned his attention.

Argen would always spend his time for sleep, but usually, his host would disturb him to ask for some stuffs. Like what is happening now.

"System, what is this herb?" His host asked and faced a peculiar looking plant growing on a skull of a wild beast.

'Uhmmm…' Argen, still drowsy, tried to recall that plant. 'No! I can't remember! What to do?! I'm sure that was in the 1st volume of basic herbs from most worlds.' He thought in a panic.

Every time his host asks, he always spends a long time thinking. Argen's host had already thought of a reason why his system was so slow in reacting. He deemed it to be because his cultivation was still weak so if he gets more powerful, so will his system and its reaction speed.

He was right at some point, but not really in this situation where Argen was involved. Since most of the systems chosen were geniuses during their past, all of them could usually learn and recall at a glance. Photographic memory was common.

Earth, when the SA was born, was in a more distant future and the population was booming. Geniuses were a common sight, therefore there wasn't a lack of people with rare talents such as photographic memory dying every day so the SA would always be rest assured to never be lacking in good picks.

Technology ruled the world and humans had already visited some cultivation planets. But they were lacking in strength compared to the planets therefore the other party would usually destroy them before the humans from Earth could send some information back. The reason why the cultivation worlds did that is because they are afraid of the unknown such as the power of technologies.

Therefore, the SA conducted to place Earth, unknown by its residents, in their jurisdiction to properly protect them and keep them oblivious of other entities from different planets. They want Earth to be focused in cultivating their knowledge. Earth did not have qualities and means like the other planets to achieve a cultivation base. If they were to be known that achieving immortal ascension was possible and the only way to do so was to migrate to the other planets, then the SA would lose their high-quality producer in systems. There was also another top-secret information why they want to protect them.

"System? You have spent a minute more in silence than usual. Are you okay?" Argen's host asked when he noticed his system's abnormality.

Argen felt like sh*t when he couldn't remember the d*nm thing. He would always fart a sentence more than a thing or two every time his host asks. Those sentences were usually a rough sketch of the descriptions of those products and he would usually tell the host to discover its other properties on his own.

However this…sigh. He slightly regretted not taking the lessons seriously or he wouldn't be in this awkward predicament.

"[T-the host's cultivation base is currently weak and not qualified. Therefore, I am unable to recognize it]" He spat out a straightforward lie.

"Oh. Then you should have said so in the beginning! Saves us from wasting our time" His host sighed.

Even though Argen was sweaty and nervous, he spat out a rational lie. Since this world and his host's knowledge about systems was limited, he bluffed his way out. "[This system of yours had thought that I could bypass the requirements and get you the necessary information, even if it's just a little, like what I did in the past when you waited for a long moment. I apologize for the inconvenience]"

Standing ovation. It was flawless.

His host totally believed him and his heart felt warm at his systems thoughtfulness.

The SA's Informant, since he was always monitoring the dispatched systems including Argen, saw his outright scam and couldn't help but curse.

[Shameless!] SA's Informant was yet again warranted with another warning. 'This…! Grrrrr! @%^#!!'

Since warnings are always refreshed to zero every month, the Rubik's cube only received a first warning. But it was obvious that the headquarters had already taken note of its past mistakes even what it said about Argen was more like a fact and not a curse. This Informant is starting to get a bad reputation from the higher-ups. However the headquarters don't usually monitor systems every second so they were still oblivious to Argen's behavior since they could only receive the full report from the Informant every year to commence the rankings.

"Mind your own business, Informant" Argen replied at its comment before focusing his gaze to the host.

Because he couldn't see System no. 901, but the latter could; Argen's host smiled brightly to himself and said, "Thank you system for your efforts. I really appreciate it. Don't worry, you need not to go all that trouble so tell me next time when the info is unobtainable because of me, okay?" His voice contained warmth and gratefulness.

'Urghh…His smile is just…! Cr*p! Guilt's breaking in!' Yep. Guilt had finally broken through.

His host opened his status panel with a determined gaze before he continued to walk. "All I need is the blood essence of Blazing Bear of Earthly Martial 5. I need to concoct a plan to defeat it using traps" He muttered.

Earthly Martial 1-4 are for body-tempering. 1-14 years old are usually in this stage. During these stages, the cultivator is still unable to learn techniques since even the lowest-ranked would need one to be in Earthly Martial 5 to proceed. Therefore, Argen's host was still unable to use techniques to fight and could only use wits to succeed. Furthermore, he has a system to guide him what to do, so he wasn't at a loss.

A system naturally has different types or specialty that depends on the host's choice whether to let their system choose for themselves or let the host choose the same type as the goal he's aiming to be. A cuisine type, healer, library, fighter, ruler, founder, etc. (game-like is already the basic functions of a system so it is not a type)

Currently, Argen was still unspecialized because the host needs to achieve Sky Martial, the next stage of Earthly Martial, to choose and obtain a class. So the only aid Argen could give was providing basic information, techniques and skills about the whole classes. When a system chooses a specialty, he/she is unable to wield the functions and techniques the other has. But the basic information they learned when they were new, still retained. However, the skills and techniques aren't rewarded and usable by both the system and the host.

"System, can you locate where the target lives of may?" Argen's host inquired.

Luckily, the request was within Argen's scope and knowledge therefore he found the beast immediately. "[A thousand meters from the northeast lies a cave. There, a Blazing Bear of Earthly Martial 5 had just given birth to a cub and is currently in its weakest state until the next day]"

Argen's host nodded in response and began to tread towards the direction while collecting materials for the traps on the way. His system was watching him and it wasn't long till boredom came. Argen thought of his family that he left back in Earth.

"I wonder how mom and dad reacted. By now, my parents should have already told that b*tch about my contributions and I'm sure the sl*t is currently regretting her actions. I bet my parents' careers are currently facing downhill and it won't be long till they return to being destitute" Argen sighed. "However I won't get my justice anytime soon. Bringing that woman's crimes into light is hard." He went into a daze while floating beside his host.

Suddenly, the mental world, taking the scenery where the host was, shuddered warped and Argen was forcefully woken up from his daze.

"What the…." Argen shook his head left and right to identify what when wrong. He was about to report it to the SA's Informant when he noticed a massive lion with protruding horns in front of him. He noticed there was something familiar on its chewing mouth.

"[HOOOOOOOSSSSSSTTTTT! NOOOOOOOOO! FFFFFUUUUUUU.....!]" Argen's eyes popped open with panic when he saw his host pair legs being swallowed by the beast.

"[SPIT HIM OUT! SPIT HIM OUT NOW! NOOO! DAMN LION!!!]" He tried to slap the lion's back to cough out his host, but it was futile. His hands passed through as if he was a ghost.

Without materializing himself, it was impossible.

"Should I materialize myself in exchange for my System Energy? But if I do, wouldn't I be eaten too? I am too weak! Sh*t! Why do I have to be so useless!?" System no. 901 pulled his hair in frustration.

As if pouring fuel to ease the fire, the SA's Informant sent a notification.

*ding*
