The Liberal Assassin

Chapter 58 - Burn Everything

Two nights ago I bawled my heart out in Mrs Peterman's arms. My heart felt a little lighter and my head a little clearer but the issue at hand still seemed daunting. Khronos had been working non-stop, tracking all the cameras in Luna for any signs of our targets to no avail. The gifts were analysed one by one but most of them proved useless without any traces to where Arvin might be hiding.

Just yesterday we held a meeting with Cass and Nash. There was a slight change to the original plans because too much time had been spent trying to locate the mastermind. Cass was to use his identity to infiltrate Luna Security and plant the virus that Khronos had designed in their system.

Tonight the plan will commence. We've split the team up to make better progress. Nash agreed to help guard Sable when Cass infiltrates Luna Security so she will be arriving at the base around eight in the evening. In an event that Cass is unable to complete his mission, Nash and Sable will proceed with plan B. That part wasn't made known to Cass of course.

"What's the status?" I asked.

Rush's voice came through the communicator. "Everything is good so far. He's gotten into the building without any resistance, they seem to know him."

"Noted, keep me posted," I told the Yankee and switched back to Nash's line for an update.

"Sable and I have arrived at the base, no issues on my end. Khronos is still in the lab."

I nodded and told them to keep at it. I was currently in the bedroom of my mansion with Cain and Kevin hooked up, monitoring for any unusual activities near the wastelands when an alarm went off.

"What is it?" I asked the scientist.

"Not good, we've been compromised. I just found a tracker in one of Sable's gift and I doubt Cass knew about it either. Destroy your evidence and get out of there. I'll meet you at my old place. Destroy the paths connecting to the base as well."

"Roger, get the rest out of there too," I told the scientist and switch lines to inform Rush only to be hit with another wave of bad news.

"Cass has been caught red-handed trying to plant the virus by Rion himself. He's not going to make it!"

"Cut off all your connection with him immediately! I don't want Rion tracing a signal back to us. The base is compromised, get yourself out of there and regroup at Khronos' old place. Don't let them find our trail!"

Rush hung up swiftly and I disconnected from Cain's system, taking the backup with me. This was it, no more turning back. I donned the Night Walker suit in record time and grabbed the gadgets before setting a time bomb to destroy the mansion and the path to the underground base. As much as I was worried about everyone else, I had to focus on the task at hand.

Rush will get Ignacio and hide it out in the Slums as planned. Nash is with Sable so they are safe. My main concern was about Khronos and the evidence. Will he be able to save the evidence and get out of there in time? The charged orb was set and I teleported to the roof of a building near my mansion to ensure nothing is left of it.

For a moment after the countdown, nothing happened and I was preparing to head back to set the bombs off manually when a huge shockwave threw me backwards, causing me to fly a good distance back. Ears ringing, I set the charged orb to Khronos' house, satisfied with the flames devouring every evidence and memory with the destruction.
