The Little Calamity

Chapter 6 - 6: Discovery after 3 years

Rayne was walking through the city looking for clues about the alchemist just like always. A little more than three years passed since Arisa arrived in his life. During this time Rayne grew taller, measuring over 2 meters. His body that was filled with muscles looked powerful and agile, reinforcing his image as a savage beast.

The biggest difference would be that now he was always clean, giving him a slightly less terrifying aura, he was also wearing proper clothes. People soon started to learn that if they didn't have any intention to attack he would leave them alone, lessening the number of people that Rayne had to kill.

There was one thing that didn't change during this time, it was his blank eyes that seemed as if they wouldn't care if the entire world burned in front of them.

After 3 years of looking and asking Arisa for some advice he found a few leads for the alchemist's hideout, first since it was so long ago Arisa told him that he would need to look underground for it. There was a high probability that it had been buried deep with time so he started looking into caves without any success.

After that he started digging in the ground in different places to see if he couldn't catch any weird smell, he found a few interesting points but nothing concrete until today.

He just killed someone and for the first time in his life he noticed the person's blood flowing under the ground. Of rather it was the energy of the person's blood, a part of it also entered his body but he wasn't startled, this was common knowledge even for him. He started following that weird energy and along the way he started noticing more and more weird energy.

He also felt like there was some different smells while his ears picked up more sounds than usual, he started to think that he was in danger. These sensation were a little like what he felt during a fight.

' Am I going to be attacked? But I don't feel any danger.'

He simply continued to follow the energy while making sure he was alert, in the end he wasn't attacked and the energy reached it's destination. It was by an abandoned house near the outskirt of the city. He looked at the ground and felt something calling him.

' How come I never found this place before?'

The city was big but in 3 years, or rather in 17 years he should have seen everything. He had a near perfect memory so it was impossible that he simply forgot.

' I can't leave Arisa without telling her, something might happen to me when I am there. She also need food.'

He was about to go and hunt for some meat when his instinct told him that something was wrong. It wasn't close to him, rather he felt like something was about to happen to Arisa.

It was the first time he felt something from so far away, either something was terribly wrong with his body or something extremely dangerous was about to happen. He jumped with all of his power, causing the ground to break under him while he went flying.

He jumped from house to house at a blinding speed, destroying the roof each time. A series of alarm resonated through the city and soon enough he arrived at his house. Just as he though about finding Arisa he felt like the world around appeared in his head.

It was as if he gained an omnipotent view of everything in a kilometer radius. It was just on time to see an old man nearly cut Arisa's arm. Luckily she managed to evade and only received a deep cut.

This might have been the first time Rayne's face showed negative emotions. Rage, pure hatred spread all over his face. Dark flame appeared around his body but they disappeared immediately.

He jumped with all his strength, covering over 200 meters in a single second. Arisa manage to deflect the old man's second attack with her spear and taking this opening she managed to slightly cut her opponent's belly. At the same time Rayne landed heavily on the ground, his two feet dug deep in the road.

Pure killing intent was coming out of him, for the first time in his life he felt like he truly wanted to kill someone, not for survival and not to protect himself but simply to eradicate him from the surface of the earth.

Both Arisa and the old man were frozen by such a beastly aura, they could only watch as Rayne slowly walked toward Arisa, he tore his black shirt which was a gift from her. It was something that he protected dearly as the first thing he received from her but now he used it as simple bandage.

Once her wound was covered he carefully brought her to a box. No matter how much the old man wanted to stop him he felt like he would die as soon as he moved. When Rayne put her on the box two more old people jumped beside the first one to snap him out of it.

One was a woman that looked like she was a beauty in her younger year and the other was a man that seemed to be built solely out of muscle. He was bald with only a long gray beard, he looked ferocious.

" Kid, this is no.."

He tried to talk but Rayne turned around, his red eyes that usually never had any emotion were shining with hate.

" Arisa, wait for me."

He disappeared, a moment later a small explosion happened on the spot that he was standing in. He was so fast that he caused a small storm. He appeared in front of the trio, aiming for the old man's arm.

The two that just arrived quickly reacted and attacked him with their weapon, the lady had a sword while the bald man had an axe. Rayne glared at them and changed his punch into a elbow strike that disarmed the woman before kicking the bald man's legs which nearly broke on impact.

Luckily for him he didn't try to resist the attack and simply tripped, saving his leg at the last second while regained his balance with his hand.

The first old man finally reacted, the woman also had a lot of experience, she caught her blade with her second hand and attacked while the bald man launched a kick, all three were in sync.

' They are strong... but they will pay.'

He looked at the three deadly attacks coming toward him, Even one of these attack left him with nowhere to dodge, with the three together there wouldn't be many people that could survive yet Rayne simply lifted his hands and with a single finger he redirected the man's sword before grabbing the granny's wrist.

The man made a deep cut on the bald man's leg, blocking it at the same time, while Rayne lifted the woman in the air with ease, he crushed her on the ground just in time to block the bald man's axe that was aimed at Rayne's ankle. He was forced to stop his attack at the last second, injuring his arm in the process.

" Elsa!"

Rayne didn't care about their feeling as he went to finish the woman, he stomped the ground but the first old man managed to move her away. This entire exchange happened in a single second where Rayne gained an overwhelming advantage, the bald man had unsteady legs while he woman was clearly weakened, only the one that hurt Arisa was still at full capacity.

Still, this wasn't their first death match. They continued their assault but each time they moved a single time Rayne countered three attack, it wasn't that he was stronger or faster, that was just pure battle talent. They exchanged move at high speed, the trio were even able to put small injuries on Rayne but he was too enraged to even care.

He dropped on the ground, evading the two swords before kicking the bald man's axe in the air. Even in this unstable position he was able to shift the two blades coming down on him while spinning to clash kick for kick with the bald man.

There was a small stalemate where everything seemed to stop before the bald man's leg broke in a clear sound, still he gritted his teeth to lunch a punch while Rayne stood up. He caught the bald man's hand to stop him from moving and used his arm to deflect the two swords.

The two blades bounced on it as if it was rubber, this wasn't because the bald man's skin was that hard but Rayne's weird movement seemed to nullify their attacks every time. The bald man's couldn't get his hand out of Rayne's grip so he went for a kamikaze kick with his broken leg, an attack that never landed.

*twack*

His giant axe finally fell down, cutting him in two in a grotesque scene. Still, Rayne had to sacrifice a bit of mobility for that kill, the death of their friend sent the two old timers in a rage. They attacked without a care for their defense, Rayne could only deflect the old man's attack to block the girl's sword but it left him wide open for a punch that landed on his belly, sending him flying toward Arisa.

At the very last moment he put his hand on her shoulder and threw himself in the air without putting any weight on her, only to be met with a sword that he caught with ease. He then dropped it before kicking it through the old lady's belly, she was already weak so this caused her to lose her conscience.

Rayne landed with ease and looked at the last person standing, the man who just cut Arisa. He purposefully didn't attack him just so he could hurt him more.

" What's your name?"

The old man was both scared and angry but he know that no matter what he did he would die.

" I am Grio. Kid why are y.."

Just as he hoped to talk his way out Rayne glared at him, his killing intent intensifying even more.

" Grio. I won't remember your name but I hope the gods heard it and send you straight to hell. I will make sure that you at least go and meet them."

He went for his arm again but Grio was able to predict it, he used his sword to go for a deadly trade. Without even batting an eye Rayne dropped on the ground, under the sword's reach, and kicked his arm off. It was a brutal scene with the simple goal of hurting his enemy.

" This might not be enough to repay what you did to her but I can't bear to see you alive for much longer."

He never talked in his fights but now he felt like crushing his opponent's spirit. He immediately went for the kill, aiming at his throat yet Grio was still able to react, he attacked with his sword using all of his strength.

His life was on the line so his attack was impressive, forcing Rayne stop completely. He moved to the side and faked another attack which caused Grio to swing then he jumped on a wall and jumped at his throat.

At this moment Rayne could easily kill him but instead he used his hand to dig deep into the man's c.h.e.s.t, cutting off a good chunk of skin.

" That's one death."

His still had a blank look but it was clear that he was still angered. He rushed again, and just as the sword was about to hit him Rayne hit it lightly, sending it flying in the air. He then carved deep into Grio's belly with his hand and jumped back.

" That's two deaths."

The sword then fell right in front of Grio, cutting his nose in two.

" Three."

Rayne talked coldly, as if he was just slaughtered a pig. Grio started trembling in fear and picked up his sword, he was planning on fighting until the end. Rayne rushed toward him again before stomping the ground, the sword of the half-dead woman flew in the air while Rayne kicked it straight at Grio's eye.

He couldn't even react before dying, his body was in a sorry condition, just like his two friends on the ground. In reality those three were just as strong as him in term of raw strength but they couldn't do anything against his agility and combat instinct.

Arisa, who knew the identity of the three, shook a little.

' I knew he was strong but to think it was to this point. Those were three emperor-level cultivators.'

She watched him with eyes filled with love as he finished the woman. She loved him so much that there was even an hint of obsession deep in her eyes.

' I wish I could make you mine...'

She felt ashamed of herself for falling for someone half her age however she never regretted it. She had a few issues that stopped her from trying anything romantic with him so for now she could only dream.
