The Little Calamity

Chapter 5 - 5: smile

Rayne was relaxing in the bath, he felt like he was in heaven and this was thanks to a single person, Arisa. He never really felt much towards others. To survive he had to kill those that tried to harm him and for those that didn't wish to fight he usually ignored them.

If he saw someone that needed help or was hungry he would try to help them, even if nobody knew it he was actually quite kind. If he was born in a normal environment he would probably be a naive boy at the moment but that wasn't something that he ever thought of.

" Rayne, are you done in the bath?"

Just as he was about to fall asleep in the bath Arisa called him. He put his bag back on and went downstairs to feel the warmth in his heart again. He quickly noticed a good smell that blended with Arisa's pleasant smell. Saliva started to drip down of his mouth.

He followed the smell and was quickly surprised with delicious looking objects, the steam coming out of them showed that they were still hot.

" What is this?"

His throat felt a lot better after drinking so much water, his words sounded a lot more natural.

" This is food."

" Why is it so hot? Even if you just killed the animal there shouldn't be steam."

The two looked at each other with confusion, she never imagined that he always ate raw food. As for Rayne the concept of cooking food was entirely foreign to him. He never entered a house after all and nobody was dumb enough to lit a fire in the middle of the city, this would put a huge target on them.

" It's cooked. I put it on some heat to make it more tasty and to remove any disease on it. Just try it."

He trusted her, he could easily feel that there wasn't any poison and he ate weirder things than this to survive. He started with some meat similar to chicken, a single bite was enough to change his world again.

Sadly his reaction was far from what she wanted, his face showed no sign of movement apart from his jaw constantly chewing. He didn't even start to eat in a hurry, he simply tasted everything at a normal pace.

' I shouldn't expect too much.'

She sighed a little before sitting in front of him to look at his cold and somewhat evil-looking face, he definitely looked cool. He was handsome enough to cause women to fight over him, he was completely different now that he wasn't covered in dirt.

" Is it good?"

He looked straight into her eyes, his cold eyes caused her to shake a little.

" I never ate anything this good before."

" If you want you could eat this for the rest of your life."

" does this mean I could be with you for the rest of my life?"

She nodded with an innocent smile, she was a little naive so she didn't realize what they just said. With that simple nod Rayne started smiling brightly, as if he just realized his dream.

Although he did it unconsciously it caused her heart to beat faster, she sneakily pressed something on her belly. Sadly both had no idea of what they were feeling so there was a small awkward silence before Arisa decided to go and wash herself too.

…....

Rayne was resting on a bed, although his eyes were closed he was sleeping extremely lightly. A few seconds later he suddenly opened his eyes and quietly jumped out of the window, he was on the second floor so he easily reached the roof of the neighboring house.

A second later it was as if he disappeared in the darkness of the night, he sneaked toward a group of people that started to surround his house.

' Still no killing intent, am I sick?'

With no warning he jumped on the ground without making a sound and broke the neck of the first man then started decapitating everyone nearby.

He had the time to kill four people before someone noticed him, before they could do anything he jumped on a wall and jumped toward the nearest person, severing his head with a kick then landed on the opposing wall.

He repeated this action over seven time in barely three seconds until someone tried to attack him while he was midair. He caught the weapon and used it as leverage to kick the woman's head, crushing it with ease. Soon after he was surrounded by ten more people, they all started a coordinated assault that theoretically left no opening for the enemy to do anything.

He simply shifted an overhead sword slash to the side, blocking a second attack with it. With the formation broken he killed the two unstable assassin, although it didn't even take him a second he was encircled again.

He dodged the various attacks with ease before taking a single step. He appeared in front of a man and grabbed him by the neck, he crushed it and used him as a shield to stop the incoming assault. Before they could remove their weapon from their comrade Rayne killed two more of them, leaving only five.

Still, they maintained the formation that now became even tighter, they all attacked at the same time. For a moment they though they hit him only to see him stand on all of their weapon, he flipped toward one of the assassin and caught him with his hands before doing a second flip, throwing him on the ground so strongly that his body created a hole in the ground before causing a blood explosion.

The man's sword that flew in the air started to fall when Rayne kicked it with frightening precision, sending it flying toward an assassin. The sword pierced his eye with such power that it completely passed through his skull and impaled the assassin behind him to the wall of Arisa's house.

The last two could only see a blur before dying. He didn't even wipe the blood from his body as he jumped back in his room.

…....

Arisa closed her window before stopping the recording of her phone. She then reactivated the house's alarm.

' It seems like I didn't need to keep my spirit eye active all night after all.'

She saw the group of assassin come from a kilometer away and simply waited for them to come, she deactivated the alarm in advance since it would bring more trouble than help, if someone knew they were attacked they would only see it as an opportunity to kill more people.

Before she could even come up with a plan Rayne woke up and took care of everyone. Usually she should be happy but she could only feel bad when she saw how Rayne didn't even bat an eye. She also regretted putting him in so much danger.

' Those were the elite assassin of the Tirian kingdom, hiring them is more expensive that buying a small city and that formation is known for it's growing intensity, the lower the number assassin the harder it is to dodge the attacks.'

She was well aware of why they were here, still she decided to come here to temper herself and she wasn't ready to leave just yet.

' Well, at least I found a disciple.'

She stood from her bed with a caring smile. She took a towel with her and went to Rayne's room, she stood in front of the door with a bit of conflict in her mind.

She knew that if she tried to sneak in Rayne probably would see her as an enemy so she knew that she should at least knock to warn him yet she wanted to see if he would treat her differently. In the end her curiosity took over, or maybe it was hope?

She entered the room without making a sound and walked towards Rayne who was already asleep again. Compared to his usual cold and wary look he slept innocently, as if he was free of any worry. She took out her phone and took a picture, even if he was covered in blood she felt like he was too cute to not record it.

' He still isn't moving, does that mean he doesn't see me as danger?'

Her heart started to beat at full speed at this thought, she took her towel and gently started to wipe the blood off him. She looked at his face to see if he was still asleep, only to see him staring back at her, his red eyes seemed to shine in the dark making it seem like a monster looked at her.

Her heart stopped as she tried to jump away from him. Rayne suddenly grabbed her hand to stop her, she immediately regretted trying something like this, they barely knew each other for a few hours so of course someone that lived in such a dangerous place for a decade wouldn't have the time to change his instinct.

' No matter how much he trust me I should at least say goodbye to my arm.'

She closed her eyes and gritted her teeth to endure the pain but nothing happened after a few seconds.

" Can you continue?"

He extended his other hand which was holding the towel that she dropped. His intention were clear. Arisa finally opened her eyes, when she saw that he had no intention of harming her she fell into a daze. It took her a few seconds to accept his demand with a smile.

She wiped the rest of the blood with care, making sure that none was left.
