The Lost Chronicles Of Pangea: Apocalypse

Chapter 29 - Demons(b): Finding Tortoises?/ The plot

When the elevator finally came to a stop David was already cranky with impatience. The volcano was about four kilometers deep from its opening, and that seemed to be the only way In. When they finally came out of the volcano, David was quite surprised by the sight that lay before him.

It was a town, or at least what looked like one considering all he could see here were trailers, and vehicles of different shape and sizes. There were a few stalls set in different areas that sold a multitude of different trinkets and beverages. For the moment, David was relying on Veni to navigate his way around this trailer park that had somehow sprung up around the volcano.

Veni ran down the volcano, moving with such speed it was almost as if she was floating above the ground. David was pretty much dragged by her as she held his hand and pulled him along. David let out a squawk of protest as it felt almost like his hand was being torn out of its socket, but with the way she moved, David did not even have time to protest.

Lilith and the woman Minerva were barely keeping up, but they were still close by. The trailer park was mostly empty, which meant most of its inhabitants were probably in the arena getting eaten by demons. But there was still traces of people and guards here and there, Veni did a very good job of avoiding them as she ran past the cl.u.s.ter of assorted vehicles to her destination.

After they went past the entire trailer park, David was shocked to see a huge industrial garage smack dab in the center of a corn field. He was shocked, because from his vantage point on top of the volcano, he had not been able to notice the garage, he did not even notice the field.

The garage was big, it was large enough to accommodate three commercial transport planes. But from the roars and rattling of metal David heard from within, he was sure it held more than just machines. As they made their way towards the unguarded barn, David took notice of the military cruiser he had spotted with his still quite unknown kidnappers when they first took him and Lilith. The very sight of the cruiser began to leave an inkling of an idea in David's head.

As soon as they walked past the open door, there was a crack as someone started shooting at them. David was so startled he fell back on his a.s.s and crawled right back out. Veni on the other hand was still standing there wondering why David ran out. The hail of bullets was just bouncing of her scaled skin, which David swore was not there a moment ago. It was as if her missing shell had become assimilated into her body, and will serve as natural defense mechanism. David gestured with his hands, as she walked over with a confused look.

David turned to look at Lilith who was still dragging the still silent Minerva around like an accessory. He didn't know why Lilith would keep on dragging the woman around, he was sure they owed her nothing.

"No offense but, why do you keep dragging her around with us. Don't you think we're better off on our own?"

"What an interesting view. You're changing, but I'm not sure if that's a good thing or a very bad thing."

David had no idea what she meant, of course he was changing. Who wouldn't under the pressure of everything that has been happening for the past few weeks, it was all a freaking recipe for insanity.

"With each passing day, I see less and less of the boy who risked his own safety to save the life of my son and I."

"You forget that, that same boy got your son killed mere moments after you met him."

"Perhaps, but that was the boy I saved at the bridge, the boy who I have chosen to fight side by side with. You I don't recognize, because let me tell you one truth. If you're not strong enough to keep to your believes and your true self under all this crisis, that you feel so trapped you let this apocalypse, change you into something you're not. Then believe me David, I will kill you in a heartbeat. Because loosing yourself is a weakness I don't tolerate. People who change under pressure always end being traitors.

This world does not need anymore monsters, it needs people like the boy I know, who cried when he was forced to kill people, a boy who would rather die than kill a woman after he took her father's life. Your compassion for life is your greatest strength David, you're loosing it, and if you do. Then you will truly become a monster. And as for Minerva, well you killed her only family, that we know off, and spared her life. She's your responsibility now, at least until we take her someplace safe. Besides, I like her."

The sudden lecture did more than just rattle David's cage, it shook and scared him to his very core. Was it so possible that in a few weeks he had changed so much, he would not really give a damn about death. Both David of Pangea and David of earth, would never have been so irresponsible as to put someone else's life at risk, or not give a shit about the amount of death around him. At that moment he realized he has not been either of those personalities in a while now. It was as if both David of Pangea and David of earth, had been silenced and pushed aside. And then this.....this new guy,...this David of the Apocalypse took over.

It was a startling realization, but it was not something he had the time and resources to explore, they still needed to find a way into the garage, grab what they needed and get the f.u.c.k out of here before things really go to hell...well more hellish than it already was.

"How do we get in there. The amount of suppression fire, has led me to believe we're dealing with a rather heavy assault rifle. Not to mention the shooter seems to be rather hidden well."

David's deduction of the situation was rather spot on, but his molecular restructure skill had not advanced to the point where he could shrug of bullets like it was rain. And his energy was rather low at the moment, so there was really no way he could do anything but hide behind the door. At least it was going to be that way until Lilith went full Diamond mode, and walked into the garage, completely shrugging off the bullets as they bounced of her now crystalline skin.

Ten minutes later, David and Minerva received her signal and they walked in to see quite a few guards, each of them sporting the same injury. They all had their right arms broken at the elbow and in such a terrible way their bone's were sticking out. David gulped, but he had no time to comment before he was dragged by Veni deeper into the garage.

As David ran through the garage, he was shown a sight from his worst nightmares. Cages of all shapes and sizes, with the biggest one being about fifteen foot tall. And within each of this cages, were exotic creatures and evolved animals each one more dangerous than the rest. There were snake's with wings, monkeys with two extra pair of hands, giant spiders and another giant snake with thorns growing out of its body. Then there was a half eaten cage of tortoises, the size of his hover bike. David paused.

"Vidi, Vici?"

"kurooaarr!"

"well hello to you too, did you miss me."

"Aww I missed you too my precious little boys."

As he was speaking, David was opening up their cage. Unlike their highly compressed and very evolved sister, this two still looked the same. Well not the same exactly considering they were now bigger and the entire fangs in their mouth was now metal.

"Are you guy's done, or should we wait for you to take your clothes off and have s.e.x."

Lilith's impatient voice was able to snap David out of his revelry and happiness about seeing his abnormal pets, but this two had a rather different idea in mind as they both went to cuddle with Lilith. Minerva screeched in fright as she moved a few steps back. David ignored her, but could not help but ponder about the extent of Lilith's relationship with his tortoises. There has not been an extensive connection between the three of them that he knew off, so why were they so chummy.

"Animals really like me."

Taking Lilith's simple explanation for what it is, David turned his eyes to scan the rest of the garage. At the extreme end, he could see the gleam of his hover bike, it was a bit scratched, but it was in one piece, nestled among a group of other vehicles.

"Lilith I need you to take this three and Minerva with you, secure the cruiser outside. It's our ticket out of here."

"are you giving me orders."

David felt his danger sense tingling as he rapidly shook his head. Then Lilith snorted and went running out of the garage with Minerva and the two brothers in tow. Veni on the other hand was still standing there and looking up at him like an enamored seven year old.

"You're not going with them."

She shook her head.

"Why?"

The only answer he got was for Veni to adorably scratch her horns in confusion. David sighed in exasperation as he felt like he was dealing with a child. Which if you think about is true. Veni was only about a month and few weeks old. She might have evolved to look more human, and have mannerisms that were human, but she was still an animal and most of all a child. It would take a significant amount of time, for her to reach a full human level of intelligence.

David ran towards his hover bike, while keeping an eye on his surroundings for anything unexpected. When he got to the hover bike he discovered it was placed on a platform, a platform David recognized as an x-ray machine for industrial checkpoints. David could only give an eased breath of relief that Evans and his cronies were not able to get inside.

He was about to start the hover bike when a ball of pure energy slammed into him, and smashed him against a cage that had a massive scorpion with two individual stingers, and wings. The scorpion startled, attempted to strike at David only for its stinger to suffer a heavy doze of electric shock from the cage. Seems this monster was still a stupid insect.

"David, David, David. I have to commend you for your tenacious attempt at escape. But I can't have you leaving and spoiling business for me. Should any of the twelve city states find out, or just the army. They would sic their hounds on me. You wouldn't want that would you."

David g.r.o.a.n.e.d in pain, as the feeling of someone shoving ten inch needles into his c.h.e.s.t assaulted him. David knew exactly what move that was, it was an elementary skill every Mana oriented class could learn when they stated training. [Mana bolt]. It was basically being shot at by a ball of pure Mana that ended up making you feel like crap. If your physique was not strong enough, you would probably end up dead. But David pushed through the pain, as he got himself back up to his feet. Evans was alone, but judging from the staff in his hand he was quite capable of handling business himself.

"Your business is over anyway, didn't you see?, there's a f.u.c.k.i.n.g demon right in the middle of your arena!"

"Well David my champion, that was the idea in the first place. You think I started all this because I wanted to run a fight club, seriously. No I wanted to summon an army of demons that could aid me in my revenge over the twelve cities. With them here and soon to be under my control, I will rain down chaos and destruction upon the twelve fathers and mothers, and I will let them know the true meaning of despair. Granted of course that I have a little time to prepare. Now before I kill you, tell me. Where. Is. My. Cruiser."

If the cruiser was missing, it only meant that Lilith had already left with it. For that moment, the thought that Lilith might have left without him held him sway. It made David feel afraid and a little betrayed. But he couldn't be sure, maybe she had no choice and had to leave. He was sure she would come back for him...….right?

"Your cruiser is missing, duuude that's so radical. You know my hover bike was missing once, turns out it was taken by an asshole called Evans. But I got it back now, so I'm sure if you close your eyes and wish really hard, you might get yours back."

"Shut up David! Do I look like I'm in the mood for jokes huh. If you don't tell me where your bitch took my cruiser I'm going to kill you and everyone you love Mr. David Johnson Iye. I'm sure Rose will appreciate dying, especially after I f.u.c.k her, Hehehe"

There was no more need for words as rage completely took over David. Instead he would let his guns and his fists speak for him. And then the sound of gunfire filled the air, accompanied by the angry roars of an enraged brother.
