The Lost Chronicles Of Pangea: Apocalypse

Chapter 49 - David vs The Evil Dead (VI): Weird Places

There was barely a distance of two inches between David and the spears, they were so close and any wrong movement would have David perforated full of holes a like a fishing net. So basically he was stuck looking at spears that were mere inches away from killing him, and beyond them was an endless abyss of darkness, it was not fun, not one bit. Then David heard clangs and groans, as gears began to shift and grind against each other. The spears began to retract, pulling back into the darkness until there was nothing there but a big black hole.

David could see his sweat dripping from his face, he watched slowly as each individual drop slid down the bridge of his nose and fell down into the abyss, he was stuck there for about ten minutes neither knowing what to do, or even being willing to do anything, who knew when those spears would come back and turn him to Swiss cheese. But eventually he had to ask.

"So what now?"

His answer came almost immediately, as whatever it was that was holding him stuck to the platform lost its power and David fell into the darkness.

"ARRGGHH...THUD! URGH, OWW!"

There was another thud as Vidi landed next to him, while David clutched his stomach, he had to listen to Vidi's angry tirade and screams, apparently he was pissed. David had thought that he would be falling for an endless amount of time, who knew it was only abut a distance of two meters.

David hastily got up, and looked beneath his feet, it did not look like he was standing on any solid surface, but rather on top of the entrance to a bloody abyss. He was walking on air, and apart for the circular platform above his head, all he could see was an endless expanse of darkness.

But Even with the darkness David could somehow still see clearly, as if it was broad daylight.

But the only thing around was the platform above his head, and David decided to take a closer look at it, after all it brought him here, and had previously tried to skewer him with spears.

This platform was unlike the one David had first seen back in the arena. But just like the way it was placed, David now realized that the volcano was formerly a dungeon just like this place. But the platform did not look like a summoning disk, it was more like a depiction of history or something.

There were dragons drawn on it, to be more exact, there were three dragons drawn on it. And from the pictures it seem there were part of the same whole, and they were flying among the stars?.

David scrunched his face in confusion, how was it possible for anything to survive in space, unless of course the picture was just symbolic. Then the drawing changed to show that all three dragons eventually made contact with a race of beings that looked like humans, but had four extra arms and looked like they could give Hercules a run for his money with how big and bulky they were.

Then all of a sudden the dragons were actually slain, or it looked like that. If not how would he explain the fact that the picture now showed the same four armed people removing the rib cage and flesh of the dragons, maybe they were performing surgery.

The next drawing showed the dragons well and actually thanking the people for mutilating them, they gave them great gifts, and then left, very different from the way they came. David could not really see the change on them, but they each seemed to be wearing a jetpack of sorts, they almost died just so that they could get some tech?.

David was sorely confused right now, weren't dragons supposed be o be fierce, prideful, and above all others.

Why would they give up such a significant amount of themselves, just so that they could have boosters to fly faster or something. Eventually the three dragons flew into the sky and left the world behind, the world they left behind had a name that was actually written in a language David could not believe he was seeing. It was written in English.

While Pangea on its own spoke English, it's written language was very different. The language was the same, but the alphabets were different. But from the words written, he knew the name of the planet that was depicted on the drawings...it was Shearath.

'Where the hell is that' David thought to himself, it was obvious Shearath was not any known place on Pangea, he even doubted it was on the planet itself. But that did not make sense, why would a drawing of another planet find it's way to Pangea, even if it came back with one of the sh.i.p.s that only have a chance to leave and return every fifteen years, David doubted it would be made into a dungeon or even placed in a place like this.

Also it was common knowledge that dungeons were old, they predated the modern or even any known era of Pangea. In a nutshell, it could be said that they had existed since the dawn of Pangea itself, even helped shape it into what it now was.

Of course there's still a lot of differing theories about dungeons and their existence, but this was the most acceptable amongst them all. But that still did not explain this platform, unless of course it meant nothing and was just made and placed there for its aesthetic appeal.

It could be a number of things, or maybe they just existed from a bygone era of Pangea, after all dungeons were quite old.

David suddenly heard a loud clang, and a space about ten meters away from him, opened up. It led into a room, but David was shocked, he had no idea how it was done, but it was as if someone tore a hole through space. In the movies he had watched, this was the part where the protagonist goes into this room that suddenly appears out of thin air, when everyone else, and common sense knew that it was a trap.

David was not so stupid as to just walk into a room that formed out of nothing, so he just sat down, much to the chagrin of Vidi, who seemed to be itching for a tour around the room. David gave the tortoise a stink eye, and proceeded to wait for something else to happen, he even sat down and crossed his legs. Whatever was going to happen should happen, as long as it doe's not threaten his life, then there was no way in hell that he was stepping one foot into that room.

Of course the funny thing about our words and thoughts, especially when they're negative, is that they sometimes came true. And for David it was a wave of spikes that were beginning to raise out of the ground in a wave, and heading straight for David. Safe to say, he did not have to wait for someone to tell him, to move his a.s.s.

Vidi moved at least five times faster than him and was already in the room before David could say 'run.' And then the bratty tortoise proceeded to urge him to move faster, before those spears popped him full of colorful holes.

David barely made it, as he leaped into the room as the last moment, and heard an audible thud as the door in 'space' closed behind him. When the door closed, it was as if he had transitioned from an endless expanse of darkness, to an endless expanse of light. A bright and colorful realm extended far and wide as far as his eyes could see, and much like the place he just escaped from, it was empty, except for a glint of golden light in the distance.

David shook his head, and turned around. So far, he had been following what his eyes had been showing him, but no more. He would put an end to this protagonist syndrome, maybe that way he would be left alone and not be bothered by so many problems. So he turned around and kept walking, much to the anger and frustration of Vidi who also wanted very badly to check out where the golden light was coming from.

But David had only turned ten steps, before the golden glint appeared in from of him again. He scrunched his eyebrows in confusion and turned around to see himself being followed by and angry Vidi, and endless whiteness. David wondered what was going on, because he knew he had not turned around, something was terribly wrong here.

He turned and went in the opposite direction once again, but after just a few steps, the golden glint was in front of him again, and behind him was just white nothing. David just shook his head ad he made hid way towards the golden light in the distance. But it was not really as close ad it might have seemed, as David had to walk for almost fifteen minutes before he could really see what that golden flint really was. It was a pyramid, a freaking pyramid that was made completely of gold.

Gold did not have that much value on Pangea, not when there's an ire as precious and more practical like orichalum, however David also had his memories from earth, he knew how valuable gold was. But whoever did this absolutely had no regard for it as he used the damn thing to make a building. It was a waste, a very big waste.

It took David another fifteen minutes before he finally got to the entrance of the pyramid. Even if it took almost thirty minutes, David had a feeling that this space was screwing with his perception of distance, space and even time.

This place was really giving him the creeps.

The pyramid did not have any sort of design, in fact for a pyramid made of gold it was rather plain, however it was seamless, there were no folds, or rough edges, just a three sided triangle with a smooth gleaming surface and one inconspicuous entrance.

Everyone in his body was telling him not to go into that place, but what were the odds that he would have a choice. Besides he had to get out of this place, and seemed that the only way out was forward. David reinforced his conviction and started running into the pyramid. Why? Probably because it won't be expected, but that in and out of itself was actually quite stupid. There might be traps laying around, but thankfully he was lucky that there was none.

As David went into the pyramid he was really put off by how ordinary it seemed. It was made of freaking gold, but there were no paintings or hieroglyphics as associated with pyramids from earth. It was too bland, and his sense of adventure was stifled by it.

The entrance of the pyramid only went on as a hallway for about fifteen meters before it opens up into a chamber of sorts. There were piles of gold and other treasure littered around. David could not help himself as his eyes sparkles with greed at the sight of so much treasure.

Something like this would only be considered to be a dragon's hoard.

But all of them fell short to a gleaming black and blue piece of metal that was hovering above the huge pile of gems and precious ores. David had a distinct feeling that that piece of metal was one of, if not the mist importantly piece of treasure among every other shiny, shiny he was currently looking at.

David made his way over with non of his former hesitation as he made his way towards that metal, Vidi was happily gobbling up massive amounts of precious metal and gold. If David had paid attention he would probably have been horrified, but his mind was stuck solely on that piece of metal, it was the only thing that seemed to grab his attention.

As David drew closer, there was an intense we stench that assailed his nose, it was a smell of rot and decay, but he didn't really care as he was single mindedly focused on his task. When he was just two feet away from the metal, he heard a deep groan, and the smell intensified into a whole other level. Suddenly a pile of treasure at the end of the chamber began to shake as a hulking brute almost three meters tall clad in golden armor stood up to his/her/its full height.

David bowed his head in anger as he thought to himself. 'of course it won't be that easy, for God's sake I need a break, can't I just get things without having to put my life on the line. F.u.c.k you Pangea, earth was way better than this'. Even with the headache that came a little while later, David did not regret his comment one bit. Fate just seemed really eager to mess with him ever since he woke up covered in dust and alone in an abandoned house.

David looked at the bulking mass of flesh and could see pus dripping out of the seams of his armor, his head was actually exposed, and what David was looking at would only be called the stuff of nightmares. He still had wisps of black hair, part of his skull was green, and other parts were open and exposed. David could see maggots wiggling among whatever was left of his brain, one of his eyeballs were hanging out of it's socket, while the other a green flame within it.

This dude was some variation of zombie, but somehow David did not feel one iota of fear when looking at it, just nonchalant indifference and disgust. It was surprising even to himself, but maybe he had developed and immunity to zombies after spending hours decapitating them and walking through the rotten blood and guts.

"Vidi! Snack time is over. Let's get to killing this bitch so we can get the f.u.c.k out of here."

"RARAR? (SERIOUSLY?)"
