The Lost Chronicles Of Pangea: Apocalypse

Chapter 55 - The Secrets Of The Dragon (III): Death Knights 2

The entire cavern lit up with a blue glow as the bullet exploded with a force beyond the capabilities of it's small frame. Dust and smoke choked David as tears fell from his irritated left eye. A wave of fatigue washed over him, as a moment of disorientation made him unable to see and concentrate for a few seconds. He closed his left eye, this did little in easing the agony of his pounding head, but it was still enough for David to pick himself up, the fire of his rage still burning bright and hot within his heart.

Like an unspoken rule he refused to look at Vidi, he just couldn't bring himself to see that stupid animal in such a desperate situation. The knowledge that he was hurt alone, was already making it hard enough for David to breath, his heart was pounding with so much fear that he had no idea how to address or approach the current situation.

Which meant the only thing he was able to do now was deflect, and let somebody else take charge of his body. With his enhanced abilities, he knew that somehow one or two of the undead knight was still alive, which meant someone else can be in charge. David let the beast born in the arena take control. It was an entirely conscious decision, like when a person decided they wanted to scratch and itch or say something.

It was still him, but the look within his eyes was cold, calculated, and angry. There were numerous ways a person could deal with their pain, or anger. But David chose to channel his rage behind this mask of violence, at least this way he would not be hurt so easily. He ignored Lilith and Minerva and went right back into the cavern. There was little to no visibility within the cavern, but David walked forward without hesitation.

When in doubt, the best to thing to do was to keep moving forward, there was a low pitched hum within the cavern, as the sounds of deep breathing reverberated through the dark gloom of its surroundings. Something was still alive within the dust and the rubble, it's breathing was rather ominous as it seemed to come from every corner of the darkened cavern, bouncing off the walls in a vain attempt to sow terror in David.

To be honest it worked, but not in a way that could possibly be imagined. Every emotion running through his body right now, was being funneld into his rage and anger at the moment. David felt the intent of an incoming attack, and angled his body to the right, but his opponent was smarter as he changed the trajectory of his attack to follow him.

He moved his hand upwards, using his telekinesis to deflect the massive fist that came crashing down beside him and blowing up a chunk of earth on impact. The ground shook as David lost his footing and fell on his back, the weight of the sniper rifle pulling him down and leaving him very unbalanced. Almost immediately, he had to move as that unseen fist came smashing down on him from within the dust filled gloom.

He felt somebody grab his arm from above his head, as he was pulled out of harms way. He looked up to see Lilith and Minerva behind him, each one of them ready for a fight. David placed the sniper rifle on the ground due to it's c.u.mbersome weight, and pulled both his shotguns from his back. They were already loaded, and ready from use.

"David did you see what that was?" Lilith asked, as she tried to discover the identity of their current opponent.

David shook his head in reply, he did not trust himself well enough to say anything right now. Seeing Vidi with that much injuries left David visibly shaken. To be honest he had thought all three tortoises were invincible on account of how much damage they had received and shaken off like it was nothing. Vidi was even strong enough to chew through armor made from a rather high grade metal. It was very hard to believe that there was something capable of hurting him in such a way.

"Duck!" David screamed out a warning, as a huge palm came sweeping over their heads.

Luckily enough they did so in time as the force from the palm created a draft that swept off most of the dust particles in the sir, giving David full view of the horror he was fighting. It was ten feet tall, and two meters wide, and a complete mishmash of crumpled metal, grey dead flesh and black horses.

"What in God's holy name is that?" David could not help but ask, directing his question to Minerva while taking a few steps back.

"I…..I….I don't know" She replied with her voice shaking a little.

From the look of things, the death knights had fused together armor and all, into one giant and bulking behemoth of grey pulsing flesh. But what was really unsettling was the fact that the horses that had melted into shadows earlier were now part of this unholy combination of species. The body had the heads of the horses attached to it, but all their eyes were missing, and their mouths were filled with sharpened fangs that would make the greatest of cats look on in envy.

It's legs were a mishmash of both human and horse legs, but somehow it was able to find a balance and move it's disproportionate body around. Its head was covered with eyes, all of them horses, as a death knight did not have eyes but green soul flames within their eye sockets. The hulking monstrosity was breathing with much difficulty as it looked to be strained and trying really hard to keep control of its body. Which now brought David to worst part of this abomination.

Both it's hands were twice as large as it's body, and they were covered by what ever was left of the sky dragon armor, encasing the grey flesh like a combat glove. The monster took a deep breath and.

"GROOOOOOAAAAARRRRRRRRR!!!"

It's breath was terribly foul, and it was taking all of David's willpower to not puke his guts out. The monster hobbled on its numerous legs as it made it's way towards David and the girls. It was slow and lacked maneuverability, but it made up for it with the power and reach of it's arms and palms.

But just because it was slow when moving, did not mean it was slow when attacking. It threw a punch that disturbed the dust of the destroyed earth beneath it, bringing enough danger that David and the girls had to jump out of it's path. Even with her superior strength, Lilith was no match for this thing, at least not in a straight fight.

David could not begin to imagine how the death knights survived the shot from the Sky Wolf sniper rifle, that thing was capable of taking out a seven story apartment complex, leaving nothing but dust and smoke behind. But this time it did not destroy the dark knights, even the cavern was not as destroyed as he expected. It was as if someone, or something had s.u.c.k.e.d away all the energy and power from the blast, so the things destroyed were minimal and completely negligible, just random pieces of earth.

David ran towards the monster's legs, jumping over it's palms after an attempt to sweep him off his feet. He felt a stream of fire fly past him and toward its face filled with numerous horse eyes. There was an ungodly screech as the smell of burning rubber filled the air. It was thick, that David began to choke and his eyes began to water in irritation. Ignoring his discomfort, he made his way forward with a single minded determination.

When he got close enough, he pointed his shotguns straight at its unholy symmetry of human and horse legs, and pulled the trigger.

" BANG!"

Both shot guns had the symbol of birds and butterflies engraved on their sides, David did not notice it, but when he pulled the trigger, those symbols lit up with a faint red l.u.s.ter. But the ensuring recoil of both shot guns was so powerful David was thrown back five meters, with both his arms feeling numb if not outright dislocated.

He crashed down to the ground, and had to spit out a mouthful of blood as he also involuntarily had to open his left eye. His brain shook within the confines of his head as everything began to spin. He quickly closed his left eye, and made his way back up to his feet, looking at the shotguns in his hands like they were cursed. David had fired one of the shot gun once before, and the recoil had indeed dislocated his arm. But he was weaker then, and did not remember the recoil being this strong. If it had been this strong before, then his shoulder would not have been just dislocated, he would have had every bone in his body broken.

David turned to the monster and was surprised by the amount of damage both shot guns had delivered. David had expected it to be poked full of holes, and have some of its legs missing. But there was nothing like a leg on that monster anymore, it was as if its entire lower half had been blown off. It was resting right on it's severed waist, with Lilith's glowing diamond fist shoved through one of the horse's head on it's body, all the way to her shoulder as the heat from her hand caused all sort of damage within it's body.

Lilith Jumped back, flying through the air in an impressive arc and show of gymnastics as she dodged the incoming palm of the monster who was trying to swat at her like she was a mosquito. The monster could not stop it's own momentum, as it's own palm slammed into its c.h.e.s.t, bursting most of the horse's heads there like a watermelon. It's cry of pain made David shiver, but it was enough time for Minerva to send one of her flame bombs towards its face, as it exploded with a BANG!
