The Maniacal General With His Crazy System

Chapter 5 - Do I need a reason?

And after Averill asked her, he narrowed his eyes, glaring at the woman who was calling herself the Ancient One.

[Host, a mission has appeared. The content of the mission is; Stay and help the Ancient One. The Rewards and Punishments are hidden. You are allowed to accept or decline this mission as you see fit.]

"May I?" The Ancient One raised her right hand and glanced at her sling ring that she was using to control her powers. And when she saw Averill nodding his head slightly, she created another Mirror Dimension for herself and Averill.

And only after the Ancient One had done this, did she remove her hood, showing off her face and bald head. "Break this Mirror Dimension, and I will tell you a good reason why you should help me." The Ancient One said as she had a distant expression showing on her face as she was remembering one of the possible futures.

Averill raised an eyebrow as he replied without any hesitation. "Do you honestly think I will do as you wish?" But even as Averill said this, he didn't act, this was mainly because he saw the expression on the Ancient One's face. But before the Ancient One could answer him, Averill released his aura.

0.001 second after he released his aura, a powerful sensation was felt in the air, 0.01 second later his aura began crumbling the reality of the Mirror Dimension. And only 0,3 seconds after Averill released his aura, the entire Mirror Dimension broke into pieces and they returned back to the restaurant.

But even as they had returned to the restaurant, Averill's aura was still being released. The ground in a five hundred meters around Averill caved a few meters downwards, leaving behind a crater similar to how a meteor blasts the ground. Averill then stopped using his aura.

The Ancient One couldn't help but be shocked by the strength that Averill showed. But what shocked her even more was the look in Averill's face, his smile was warped into something of both agony and joy, his fingers were twitching, and his red eyes were sharply gazing at her. Most people would be scared of seeing Averill like this, but the Ancient One wasn't afraid. If based on the time she had used in watching the possible futures, she had been watching Averill for hundreds of years, and something like this didn't frighten her.

And as she had promised, the Ancient One would tell him a good reason to help. "There is a possibility that you will meet someone in the near future that you would want to protect. Someone that you will regard as important. Will you take the chance? Come with me, I will give you a haven for the time being and I will teach you the Mystic Arts." The Ancient One spoke with a small smile on her face as she gazed into the crazed eyes of Averill.

Averill stood up slowly, his crazed expression was still apparent, he didn't release his aura, but his eyes spoke more than what his aura could do as he was glaring into the eyes of the Ancient One. "I will follow you to the haven you spoke of for the time being as I don't have other places to go to. You may know it already, but I will tell you this, if your statement is a lie, I will kill you. Not only will I kill you, I will destroy everything you hold dear." Averill's voice might be soothing and sweet, but the words he spoke of was brutal and scary.

The Ancient One gave a nod as she kept having a small smile on her face. She raised her hand once again and made a portal near her. She stood up and walked through the portal.

After having seen the Ancient One walking through the portal, Averill stood up and walked through the portal without any hesitation.

When the two of them left, the first Mirror Dimension The Ancient One set up broke apart and let out the three agents of S.H.I.E.L.D that were trapped inside of it.

Natasha looked around, but she couldn't find the woman in the yellow robe nor Averill, the only thing she noticed was the entire area of five hundred meters was trashed. She took up her phone and called Fury.

The moment Averill stepped into the portal, he entered a comfortable room. He saw that the Ancient One was sitting on a pillow whilst preparing tea. He saw a pillow nearby, he went to it and sat on it. Averill's expression had turned normal now, his crazy expression wasn't anywhere to be seen.

"I will be back in a few minutes, I will bring some materials that might help us." After the Ancient One had filled a cup with the tea she brewed and placing it in front of Averill, did she stand up and leave.

Averill raised the cup of tea and tasted it, it had a sweet taste, and it was decently made in Averill's opinion.

In the background, the System updated the content of the mission. [Host has accepted the mission based on Host's actions. If Host is able to complete the mission, Host's Reward will be; sharing Host's longevity. But if Host fails to complete the mission, the Punishment will be; Host will turn into his crazed mode for an entire month.]

The rewards and punishment didn't surprise Averill too much. He didn't care too much about the punishment. 'System, tell me a little about the Summoning ability that you have.'

[Of course, Host. Host can use the Summoning ability whenever Host wishes for it. But, Host must have a specific reason to summon something. Host can't say 'I wish to summon a powerful person or weapon'.]

Averill began pondering for a few moments about the small restriction of the Summoning ability of the System. He had felt something being out of place since he entered this world, almost like something was missing, but he didn't know what it was. But Averill felt like that the Summoning ability would be able to help him tremendously.

He was relaxing as he enjoyed the cup of tea. It didn't take too long before the Ancient One came back with a book in one hand and a weird type of ring in the other hand.

"Before we begin, I have a question for you, Averill Kaiser. I know that you have lost your memories, but my question for you is this; why do you wish to roam around without any goals? Don't you have anything you d.e.s.i.r.e to do?" The Ancient One only had one question after 'knowing' Averill through the many years in her ability of foreseeing the future.

"…" Averill wasn't able to answer the Ancient One. As she said, he didn't have any goal and his only aim for now is to roam around. He only needed a few seconds to think through everything before answering the Ancient One with his usual weird smile. "I have no goal because there is nothing in the world for me, which is why I will roam around without any goal. In the end, it doesn't even matter." Averill shook his head, his weird smile was showing clear expression of smugness and joy.

But the Ancient One saw something hidden deep in Averill's eyes behind all the mockery and seriousness, something that no one would have been able to see. A trace of bitterness and fatigue. The Ancient One was sure that even Averill himself wasn't aware of this.
