The Maniacal General With His Crazy System

Chapter 54 - Say no to schemes

'Yeah, I accept.' Averill continued smiling, the twitching of his hand stopped after a few moments. He then raised his right hand to begin eating the food that was in front of him.

Whilst Averill was eating his food peacefully with Laura, Saitama and Harleen, the System spoke out in his head.

[The Host has accepted the Mission. If Host accomplishes the Mission, Host will receive a random Universe. If Host fails to accomplish the Mission, the punishment will be the loss of an arm permanently.] The System called out in its mechanic voice to Averill.

Both Averill and the System knew one thing, that the mission he had gotten, can be easily done. But there was a catch to it, something that might not sit well with Averill.

But Averill didn't care about that for now, he had his plans going on for this Universe already, and the mission wouldn't bother him too much.

It only took around ten minutes before everyone was done eating, Saitama was leaning back on his chair, he was exhausted from eating till his stomach was bulging. Laura wasn't too much different, but she had a more elegant posture than Saitama, she was sitting straight, but she looked exhausted from overeating.

Even Harleen wasn't any different, no, she was doing way worse than Saitama. "Ugh." Harleen felt like throwing up, she had eaten way too much. The only thing that was on Harleen mind as she ate was to eat more without stopping. But after having eaten several platters, her stomach began hurting.

The only person who was doing all right was Averill, he had only eaten two plates of food, and he ate it slowly with a smile on his face. Even whilst eating the food, Averill felt like it was a waste of his time, he knew that his body could go on for years without going hungry, but Averill slightly enjoyed the peacefulness by eating a delicious plate of food.

After everyone had eaten, the plates all vanished. Harleen wasn't even able to notice it as she had her head hanging downwards whilst trying to hold in her vomit.

"Now, tell me, what do the two of you think?" Averill asked a simple question whilst gazing at Laura and Saitama in turn. His soothing voice might have calmed them, but his sharp red eyes showed something different.

Laura cleared her throat as she spoke out without any hurry. "Worthless. In my eyes, most of them are worthless and have no value." Her tone was cold, and her expression was stoic.

"Same. I sensed one or two people, other than that, no one else could catch my attention." Saitama spoke out in a tired voice.

Averill gazed at both Laura and Saitama with a mocking expression, but he didn't say anything for now. For both Laura and Saitama, they might only sense the presence of a few people that might be on their standards. But Averill was able to gaze throughout the entire Universe, it didn't matter how far they were, he was able to see everyone if he wished for it. And after having done that once when they arrived in this Universe, he knew one thing; that he wanted to test out Laura and Saitama whilst finding new people will be his soldiers in the future.

"How about the one you were following?" Averill asked another question as his mocking expression turned back to his usual smile. He didn't bother about sensing the progress Selina and Jack had.

And like earlier, Laura began speaking first. "Selina did decent. She robbed twenty one places, and from what I could tell, those areas belonged to either powerful people or big groups within the city."

Saitama raised his head and gazed at Averill as he also gave his report. "Jack started a war in the middle of the city. Police, soldiers, and even heroes tried stopping him. He created mayhem."

"Good. They are at least doing what I told them to do." Averill muttered as he placed his gaze towards the roof for a brief moment. And in that direction was the sun, he could sense movements in the sun, but ultimately, Averill didn't care about it too much. Because he knew one thing, even if that person appeared, he wouldn't need to act personally to kill him. "I wonder how long time it will take before they will come back. If I'm not mistaken, they will need another beating before understanding that they aren't worthy. Laura, Saitama, when they come, deal with them without killing them. Their usage isn't finished yet."

Harleen had finally been able to comprehend what was happening, she then asked a question. "Averill, who's Jack and Selina? Are they your underlings?"

"Underlings?" Averill raised an eyebrow as he turned his head towards Harleen. "Tell me, do you think I would have underlings?"

Averill's voice was soothing in Harleen's ears to hear, and his smiling expression was charming too, but there was a thing that Harleen felt. She didn't feel afraid for her life, but Harleen could sense something boiling up, like a hurricane appearing or a bomb being dropped from an airplane.

Harleen shook her head. "No, I don't think you would have underlings. But, they must have their uses. Which in turn should mean that you have at least them in your mind for your future plans. If they die in the end or not is something else, but they are at least included on your side, am I right?" Harleen countered calmly with a large smile. She could tell that Averill liked one thing specifically, and that was his planning. Harleen wouldn't call Averill's planning a scheme, because from what she could tell, Averill only wants to find more information about things around himself.

In that perspective, Harleen would say that Averill feels a need and has a tendency to observe and calculate the things around himself. May it be other people or anything else. 'In the regard from what I saw in the memory where Averill was defeated and surrounded by his enemies, Averill has no trust towards others.'
