The Maniacal General With His Crazy System

Chapter 83 - Never playing safe

Selina's body was recovering at a speed that could be seen by anyone, her wounds closed themselves without leaving any scars on her skin.

Throughout the entire session of Averill healing Selina, he gazed at her with sharp and focused eyes. What he was doing wasn't something he would usually do, yet he didn't stop himself or kill Selina, he just silently healed her.

Averill went out of his daze when Selina's body was almost fully healed, there was one wound remaining on her body that he didn't take care of. As much as it seemed like he wanted to heal her, he wouldn't accept not having a sign to show both himself and her, that it was a mistake made by her which made this outcome happen. The one thing that Averill didn't heal was her right eye which had been destroyed by some sort of acid.

But even if the injury was visible, Averill removed the pain that came from the damaged eye so Selina wouldn't suffer from it in the future. After having done all of this, Averill forcefully pushed Selina away from himself as he softly pushed her onto the bed before he stood up and gazed at Harleen.

Averill's expression was much focused and colder than usual, there were no weird smile on his face nor was he incredibly happy about this. But that didn't mean that he would be moron to ruin everything that he was slowly building up. "Harleen, I assume that you also saw the memory, am I correct?" There was a hint of comforting tone in his voice as he asked her, yet his eyes were sharper than usual.

"Yes, I saw it." Harleen nodded as she replied without any hesitation, she wasn't afraid about saying that because of one reason. And that reason was why she was here in the first place, to help Averill recover his memory and help him find more about himself. Harleen figured out early too that Averill didn't hide any information from her either, which probably meant that she knows one more memory of his wouldn't be a problem.

When Averill heard her confirm it, he went silent. The memory he saw should have only been seen by Averill and the System to begin with and no one. And Averill wasn't worried that the System shared the memory to Harleen as he was sure of one thing; that the System wouldn't do so without asking him. Which meant only one thing; that the power deep within of Harleen was slowly awakening.

It was one of the reasons why Averill had allowed Harleen to follow him from the start, because of the resting power inside of her. But now that she was slowly awakening it, he felt that he had slightly miscalculated what she would be able to accomplish.

Things were slowly falling in ruin around of Averill, he had misjudged not only those around himself, but also himself. Averill was still calmly standing there, yet deep within of him, he was far from happy about the current situation. It was then that a sound entered his head that only he could hear…

[Host… A new mission is available for Host, if Host takes this mission, the previous ones that Host has accepted will be invalid. The mission is to kill everyone and have a fresh start… Does Host wish to accept or decline this mission?]

When Averill heard of this mission from the System, he went completely calm. There were no smiles on his face, his eyes had even relaxed slightly, and his inner emotional disturbance stopped too. He went into a state of tranquillity.

And on the side of Averill, Harleen gazed at all of this happening in front of her. A smile appeared on her face as she spoke in a gentle tone to Averill as he understood what his body language and expression was saying. "It is alright, Averill. I will not try to stop you if that is your choice. I can understand that this situation for you is different from what you would have liked, which is why, I will understand whatever you want to do." Her voice was gentle and the smile on her face was genuine as she stared into Averill's red eyes.

Harleen might have been afraid of dieing a few moments ago, but not any longer. If her life was taken by the hands of the one she loves, then it wouldn't frighten her.

The fingers on Averill's hands began twitching as a grin slowly appeared on his face. If Averill opened his mouth right now, only a loud laughter would escape his throat.

Averill's lips parted ways, he held back his laughter as he focused on rather speaking in a tone filled with mockery. "Do you honestly think I am weak? If I can't handle myself slowly changing after getting more memories, then I wouldn't have been searching for my memories since the beginning!"

"System, I decline the mission, I will continue the other mission that I have accepted. If I'm not mistaken, I still have three more days to accomplish it, right?" Averill spoke to the system with his voice, he didn't bother hiding the existence of the System. But it seemed like that the System would usually hide its presence unless Averill replied to it with his voice rather than his mind.

[Host is indeed correct, the time remaining of the quest is seventy-five hours.] And just as Averill spoke with his voice, the System replied in a voice that could be heard by Averill and Harleen that was in the room.

A refreshing smile appeared on Harleen's face as she jumped towards Averill. She was ecstatic, Averill didn't turn around after facing a difficulty. Because Harleen knew that if Averill wanted to have an easy life without worrying about anything, he wouldn't be searching for his memory nor would he allow anyone to be by his side. Yet Averill was searching for the memory of his past life and he was allowing people to stay with him.

But before Harleen was able to hug Averill, Averill flickered his finger which made her stop in the air not too far away from him. Even if he didn't kill her and everyone else, he wouldn't allow her to hug him like that. "You know better, Harleen, ahaha." Averill walked past Harleen who was stick in the air who was trying her best to grab onto Averill to hug him.
