The Modern Man Who Never Played Video Games Is Now An Adventurer!

I woke up to the morning sun streaming through my window. It took a moment to remember where I was. That's right. We had just defeated the Lesser Lich. Did that mean I only slept a few hours at most?

As I got to that point in my thought process, the door opened and Bella walked in. "Good morning sleepyhead." She laughed, seeing I was awake. "You slept for a whole day. I was amazed by your ability to sleep."

She sat down on the edge of my bed and rummaged through my bag for a moment before pulling something out. She passed it to me, and it turned out to be my Status Card. "You probably leveled up since the last time you checked it. It's probably a good idea to check it now."

I agreed with her statement and opened the overlay with a thought. My level indeed did go up, and by a whopping six! As I looked through the list, something else surprised me greatly.

It seemed that my True Unique had activated again. Third Eye had caught another Unique Skill. I obtained the skill Heat Absorbtion. I looked through my memories to see where I had seen it. After a moment I realized where I had seen it. Tenda had used it in his fight against the Lesser Lich! That's how he was able to coat his body in flames, and the reason his skin looked like it was glowing red.

Realizing I gained another Unique Skill put a smile on my face. It also, relieved one of my worries. Third Eye would activate even if I didn't know that what I was seeing was a Unique Skill.

Bella noticed me smiling and said, "I guess your level really did go up, right?"

"It's even better than just my level going up. I gained a new Unique Skill from Tenda." I whispered, not wanting anyone else to hear me. It would not be fun if people I didn't want hearing this suddenly found out about my True Unique.

"What!" She almost jumped off the bed out of shock. Sitting back down, she lowered her voice to a whisper and asked, "What Unique Skill did you get?"

"It's called Heat Absorbtion. It's why Tenda was able to coat himself in flames when fighting the Lesser Lich." I explained at her request, before asking her a question. "So, why did you come in here in the first place?"

"Oh! I totally forgot! The village chief wants to publicly thank us on behalf of the village and give us our rewards." Bella said with an excited expression on her face.

"Let's get going then." I said as I finally got off the bed. I threw on some clothes from my bag and left the room with Bella right behind me.

We found Tenda sitting in the same spot where the village chief had explained the situation to us. Seeing us, he got up and we left the house together. Tenda led us to the designated location in the center of the village.

The houses here all faced a massive well with multiple buckets connected to pulley systems sitting in it. A stage had been prepared to one side of the well. A large crowd had already gathered, and the village chief was in the middle of telling them that we were on our way when he noticed us.

"Tenda, Lucifer, and Bella. Thank you so much for coming. Please come up on the stage." The chief said in a very formal manner. Apparently whenever someone was honored in the village, it would be a formal event of sorts. It was a custom of the village.

We walked up onto the stage and stood to the right of the village chief. He shook each of our hands and whispered a thank you to each of us.

"Two nights ago, these three adventurers, along with the help of the retired adventurers of our village, confronted the problem we have been facing for the last six weeks." The village chief started his speech with these words.

"The Undead that had been harming our daily lives was ably dealt with by Lucifer here." He brought me forward and bowed slightly to me. "His sword and light magic combined to create a devastating defeat for the Undead, without anyone getting hurt."

The crowd of villagers below the stage clapped for me and many shouts of thanks could be heard. I smile a bit and moved back as the village chief brought Tenda forward. "Flamehand Tenda brought an end to the troubles of our village for good by defeating the Lesser Lich that kept bringing the Undead back to terrorize us." Tenda then moved back to stand in line with Bella and me.

"Thank you to all three of you for the efforts you put in to find and fight the Lesser Lich and it's Undead summon. As a thank you on behalf of the village, here is your reward." The chief said as he pulled out a pouch full of coins from his pocket. He handed it to Bella, and smiled at all of us. "If you don't need to leave on your journey just yet, how about a feast?"

We all agreed that a feast would be great, and the festivities began. We each met with almost all of the villagers and chatted with them. Everyone was in high spirits and very grateful for our help. The food was great, and the wine they produced in the village was phenomenal. The feast that had become more of a party lasted well into the night. A full day of celebrations later, I collapsed on the bed. I was nearly as mentally drained as after the actual fight with the Undead and Lesser Lich.

I smiled as I looked up at the ceiling. The reward was split between the three of us, and it totaled to three gold for each of us. No wonder adventurers didn't want to stop being adventurers. money came fast as you got to higher levels.

Tomorrow, Bella and I would be moving on to the city of Feido. For now however, I needed to get a good night's rest before then.
