The Modern Man Who Never Played Video Games Is Now An Adventurer!

Chapter 31 - Investigation Of The Northern Forest Begins!

I opened the door to our room and Bella's face instantly filled my vision. I jumped back in surprise, before noticing that Bella had quite an angry expression on her face. "Is everything ok?" I asked. Surely It wasn't my fault she was angry.

"No! Everything is not ok! I've been waiting here for hours. I had no idea where you went!" Bella clearly was worried about me. Thinking that made me smile, which was definitely not the best idea. It took all at least an hour to calm her down. I felt as though I had run a marathon, it was so exhausting.

Once she was calm enough to hear me out, I explained what happened after she left. As I got to the part about a baby dragon, I took the little guy out of the pouch. He was fast asleep, seemingly tired from the day's adventure.

"Woah! That's actually a baby dragon!" Bella exclaimed in surprise.

She walked around me as I held the baby dragon, and a strange look crossed her face. "How did a baby dragon even get into the city? That should have been impossible."

I hadn't thought about that at all. Once she mentioned it, I fell deep into thought alongside her. Unless the city fought a dragon recently, there weren't any ideas that came to mind. Almost an hour later, we hadn't come up with any possible reasons, so we put it aside and finally got around to packing all the food into my bag so we could leave first thing in the morning.

Morning came all too fast. We woke up just as the sun passed the horizon. I had used void magic as a form of alarm clock, which was one of the few useful uses it had. We quickly took turns freshening up and once we were all set, we equipped our weapons and armour along with my bag. Closing up behind us, we left the Sleeper and headed to the adventurers guild.

The baby dragon was hidden in a pouch I had attached to the enhanced bag. I needed to start feeding it my magic to create a connection between us, and I thought the sooner I succeeded, the better it would be. I took out my Status Card and checked my MP, so I would have an idea of how much I could use while still having enough for any possible fighting that may happen.

329 MP. If I feed the baby dragon two hundred MP throughout the day, I should be fine. I needed to find out how to increase my MP without leveling up. That way I'd be able to use more magic at a higher frequency.

"Hey, Bella. How do you increase your MP without increasing your level?" I asked her as the adventurers guild entered our view.

"The easiest way would be to constantly use your MP until it's almost finished." Bella said after contemplating a moment. "You should be able to raise it if you feed the baby dragon as much as possible every day. Leaving ten points is the safest way to raise your MP without being in danger. Going below ten MP causes something known as Mana Exhaustion. Mana Exhaustion causes you to feel very hungry and extremely tired. It's also much harder to regain you MP after reaching the point of Mana Exhaustion."

Good to know. That explains why I was so hungry that time I was practicing my magic and swordsmanship simultaneously against goblins. Looking back, that seems so long ago, but it wasn't even a month ago. Closer to two weeks actually.

"Bella and Lucifer!" We heard someone call out to us. Looking at the source of the noise, we saw Paul and Gina standing by the entrance to the guild, both carrying large bags on their backs. Paul wore some metal armour mixed in with leather parts by the joints so he could move easily. He had a heavy looking shield strapped over his bag, and a warhammer stuck into his belt. He looked like a human version of a modern tank, except without ranged attacks.

Gina was wearing light leather armour and had a quiver of arrows strapped to her outer t.h.i.g.h, along with a bow on her back. Their weapons and armour looked much more expensive than mine, making me feel inadequate as an adventurer.

It seemed to show on my face, since Paul patted me on the shoulder which caused me to wince in pain. "Don't expect every adventurer to have such expensive looking armour and weapons. We have our own circ.u.mstances, which allowed us to obtain such nice equipment."

"Since we can only go on this quest because of you two, we will only take twenty five percent of the reward for the both of us. The two of you can split the other seventy five percent." Gina said in a tone of voice that suggested there would be no arguing.

"Well, I'll thank you on behalf of the both of us." Bella responded to Gina's statement before I could even try to argue. She took a glance at me, and clearly saw that I wanted to say something and let out a small giggle.

I sighed in exasperation and gave up on arguing. "Let's get going then, shall we?" I asked. After receiving confirmation, we set off for the north gate.

Almost an hour later, we were allowed out of the city. Setting our sights on the forest in the distance, we made one final check to make sure we were fully prepared. The investigation quest was finally starting. This would be a good learning quest for me, since I could learn more about the monsters in this area. I had a feeling this information would be useful in the near future.
