Chapter 39 - Dimension Magic Is Really Draining

"You must strive harder in your imagination." Emilia repeated for what felt like the thousandth time.

Out of all the different forms of magic, dimension magic relied the most heavily on imagination. With other magics, you could cast the spell with words that described what you wanted, but dimension magic was different. It was much too hard to explain dimensions with simple words or short sentences.

My end goal was to be able to create my own Portal Home. Emilia wanted me to go further, but I was still debating. She believed I could completely master dimension magic, but I wasn't in a rush to do so.

Anyway, right now we were in Emilia's backyard. Bella and Paul were watching from the side while sipping some tea. Gina was also there, but she had forgotten her tea and was just watching us. I was standing in a small hoop on one side of the yard and another was placed about five meters away. Emilia was trying to get me to teleport from one circle to the other without physically moving.

It reminded me of something from a popular series on Earth. I think in that series it was called Apparition. In that book, they had to picture the place they wanted to appear, and spin on a leg quickly and they would appear in the location they pictured if done correctly.

Using Dimension magic, I needed to not only picture the location I wanted to appear, but also how I would get there. Basically, Emilia wanted me to imagine space distorting so that the place I wanted to be was the same as the place I was standing now.

"Imagine a simple piece of paper." Emilia had explained. "Now, if I draw a circle in the center of both halves of the paper, what is the shortest route?"

"From here to here." I had answered as I drew a line between the two circles.

"Wrong. This is the shortest route." Emilia then folded the paper in half, making the two circles touch each other. "This is what you need to imagine happening with space itself. Once you can do that, dimension magic will be easier to work with."

Now here I was, standing in the same circle for almost four hours. I was frustrated, but I still kept at it. I needed to figure this out if I wanted to use Portal Home for Velli. 'Picture space folding, just like the paper.' I repeated in my mind. In my mind's eye, I pictured the circle I was wanted to be in and the circle I was currently in. Slowly, I imagined the two circles overlapping, until they were one.

At that moment, I felt a sudden drain on my MP, and my body felt weak. I opened my eyes and realized I was no longer in the circle I had been standing in for the last four hours. I started getting excited, but almost as fast as excitement had crossed my face, it was replaced by disappointment. I had definitely moved, but I wasn't in the second circle. I was standing about halfway between both circles.

"Well done!" Emilia said. "You managed to use Warp. While you didn't succeed in reaching the location you wanted to, you did succeed in using Warp. Let's take a break. Warp uses a lot of MP, so you're probably very tired."

Bella came over with a sandwich which I gladly accepted. I sat down heavily on one of the chairs in the yard and took out my Status Card. It had been a bit since I checked it, so I decided to see how much I've improved.

Wow. I had really raised my overall MP. But what surprised me even more was just how little I had left after using Warp. It seemed I'd need to raise my MP far higher than I had until now. Portal Home would probably consume far more MP to make even the smallest of spaces.

My dimension magic had reached level four. It was only level two the last time I checked. Learning to use Warp made a huge difference.

"This one thinks we shall stop here for the day. One week from now, you shall return to this one for another lesson. During this week, raise your MP as much as you can. You shall require far more than you have access to currently, if you d.e.s.i.r.e to reach your goal." Emilia said.

"Thank you very much Emilia. I will do my best." I responded with a smile.

After Emilia saw us out, Paul and Gina went back to the guild, while Bella and I went back to the Sleeper Inn. Before we entered the inn, Bella held me a back a moment and said, "Luke. I feel like I haven't been very helpful recently."

"What are you tal-" I started saying before being cut off by Bella.

"This is my decision. I'm going to take the next week and focus on getting stronger. If you're going to be training yourself, then I will too! I refuse to fall behind. We will stand side by side until the end."

Bella said with a light smile.

I looked into her eyes and saw a burning determination. I silently nodded my head in understanding. We would grow together. For the next week, we would probably not see much of each other. Maybe even longer.

"Do you have any plans for how you're going to train?" I asked.

"You'll have to find out in a week." Bella said with a trace of a mysterious smile. She turned around and entered the lobby of the inn. I shook my head as I watched her back figure move away. With a rueful smile, I followed after her.

Once I entered our room, I locked the door behind me. While I was tired from being drained of MP, there was other business to take care of first. That business kept the both of us up until late in the night.
