Chapter 40 - Meditation Really Is The Best For Training

By the time I woke up the next morning, Bella was already gone. I felt a bit sad, but I knew she was doing this for our sake. I had one week to raise my MP as much as possible, so even though I had just woken up, I set to work.

A few minutes later, I was prepared to start my MP training. I had decided to focus on three types of magic while I used up my MP. Earth, dimension, and ice magic were the ones I would use. I wanted to level up my skills as much as I could during this week, along with raising my MP limit.

There was a reason I didn't just feed Velli all the MP I had. Two reasons actually. The main reason was that I had already established a strong connection with him through our auras, so I was not worried about him attacking me ever. The second reason was because of something I had realized while feeding him. When I fed him the MP, not only did he grow faster, but my MP seemed to regenerate slower. After thinking about it, I realized it was probably because he was absorbing it, rather than the magic returning to the atmosphere.

Anyway, Velli was still asleep in the corner of the room so I decided to leave him there. If needed, he could contact me through our link and he knew that. Anyway, I closed the door behind me and quickly headed to the north gate.

My plan was to stay near the city and just use magic constantly. I needed to test as many methods as I could today, so I could ascertain the most efficient method of raising my MP cap. Right now, I had three ideas. One was to use it all up until I had very little left and then let it return slowly. The second method was to maintain my magic instead of releasing it repeatedly, also until I had very little left.

The third method was actually just an addition to the previous ones. I realized that MP restored at a faster rate when in a state of relaxation, such as sleeping. If I could imitate the state of relaxation without sleeping, it would probably return quickly. The best way to imitate that state was definitely meditation.

Since I already have used the first method in the past, I was going to start with the second one, without meditation. I had finally reached a spot out of view of the main road, but still fairly close to the wall of the city. Using earth magic, I raised walls all around me in a ten meter radius. Once I was satisfied that no goblins or other monsters would attack me, I sat on the ground. This was a precaution, since if I accidentally used too much MP, it would be a problem if I hurt myself from falling.

At that point, I decided to use my ice magic to start off my training. Spreading my arms, I pictured ice gathering around me in extremely tiny and soft pieces. Slowly, I changed the image in my.kind to spin around me like a miniature blizzard. Slowly, the air turned colder as snow started spinning circles around me. Once I was satisfied with the amount of magic being used, I sustained the image of the snowstorm as I felt my MP quickly draining.

After a few minutes, my MP had reached 1/5 of it's maximum amount. I decided that I had used enough MP to test the difference between methods. I dispersed the magic and stood up slowly. Since I wanted to see the difference between this method and meditating, I did some light exercise and jogging in place. so I couldn't be considered as resting.

An hour later, I had almost half of my MP returned. This meant it was approximately 30 percent of my current MP an hour when not resting. After confirming it on my Status Card, I sat back down and repeated the same process of using my MP. Once I had reached 1/5 of my MP, I again dispersed the magic and started meditating.

After forty five minutes, I opened my eyes and shot up. I was shocked. It was hard for me to believe the difference meditating made. My MP was full again. After checking my Status Card to make sure, I fist pumped the air with a smile on my face. This would speed up my training by a lot.

I was about to sit back down to continue training, when I heard a voice that I had finally gotten used to in my head. "Food." Velli was hungry. I looked up at the sky and realized that it was almost noon.

"I'll be back soon with food, buddy." I said telepathically. Velli returned the equivalent of a mental nod making me smile unconsciously.

I returned through the north gate and after a pit stop at a food stall, I returned to the inn with a bunch of meat. Watching Velli devour the meat I had brought him, I realized that I couldn't afford to feed him like this. He was a dragon. The amount of food I'd need was immense! Right then and there I made a decision. From now on, he would have to hunt for food.

I was originally worried that Velli would have a hard time hunting, since I thought light dragons didn't have many offensive abilities, but when I asked Velli if he could hunt, his response was very confident.

Anyway, Velli was now full and I had determined how I would go about my training. With that in mind, I took Velli with me and left the inn. After obtaining food for myself, we returned to the location I had been training this morning.

The rest of the day was spent using up my MP and restoring it through meditation. By the time I returned to the inn, I had a huge smile on my face. The sun had set many hours previously, but it was worth the time. My MP, which had been capped at 536 just yesterday, was now at a staggering 891. I was confident in passing ten thousand MP before the week was over. I just needed to push myself a bit more.

I plopped myself on the bed and closed my eyes. Now that I had a clear idea of my schedule, I started wondering what Bella was doing for her training. While having such thoughts, I was quietlyI swept away, into the world of dreams.
