The Necromancers

Volume 1 - Chapter 12

Time passed away fast, and the Ogre finished his barrel of wine in his complaints. If I didn't see it all by myself, I would never believe that an ogre could be so talkative—anyway, his nagging was finally over. He turned around and walked out of the room. He’s probably out to get more wine.

The Orge went out of the room; he didn’t even lock the door. It seemed that he didn’t think the princess was able to escape. In fact, he was right. Without others’ help, where could a little girl escape to?

I carefully moved to the curtain in case it was covered by magic…But to my surprise, it was just a very simple curtain. Nothing special was noticed on it. I easily pulled it up. - Of course, the invisible spell became ineffective simultaneously. My body reappeared in front of everyone’s eyes.

The little girl was sitting on the carpet. She had noticed the movement of the curtain. When I entered into her side of the room, she was staring at me with her big eyes, full of tears.

"You? Are you here to save me? I knew someone would come to save me… " The little girl jumped up and broke into laughter. "You were able to come in here. So Lewis has already been… Have you already knocked him and his subordinates down?" She rushed over to me, hugged me tightly, rubbing her face, which was full of tears, on my robes. –Fortunately, this robe was not clean anymore, it didn’t change much using it as a towel!

"It was not as good as you thought... I sneaked when he was away.... We have to leave immediately, otherwise we both will be caught!" I confessed to this little girl, her face was full of disappointment.

"Yeah...but what did you do? Lewis caught me, brought me here and threatened me to marry him. But he immediately became nervous and they all went out in a rush, with a surprising yet angry look. Did you kill a lot of his men…Right? By the way…how’s my father…”

"We’ve got no time chatting, my Royal Highness!" I finally couldn't help to interrupt the little girl. Now the time was tight. If we didn't leave right away, the ogre would soon be back. I had no interest imitating heroes from legendary books, who hugged the princess while waving their weapons fighting enemies—of course, the key reason was the princess was too young. "We have to find a way to leave. Let’s wait until we are safe and then talk!" I knew I was too strict. Because the little girl stopped talking right away, looking at me in fear.
I dragged her to the outside. Although escaping the nest through an ‘arbitrary door’ was the best option, I only had one chance of using it—it’s our last resort. My principal was not use it until the last moment.

What should we do if we encountered enemies? Although majority of the army had been out, there could still be some of them remaining in the nest. This way, a hard fight was inevitable. But anyway, this place was really big, with a lot of branches. Plus, there were not that many of them left in the nest. Maybe we could easily escape without being discovered! I remember very clearly that there were only two ogres standing at the gate, guarding the entrance. They were the only two guys guarding the gate. Even if I bombed them with a fireball, the other guys inside the nest would not hear the bomb.

With a lucky hope, I walked all the way out, because I paid special attention to the road when I came in, so there wouldn’t be much risk of getting lost.

I walked very carefully, trying not to make any sound, so that I could hear the footsteps of the enemies. The little girl next to me was the same. She might not pay special attention to it, but her body was very light, so she didn’t make any noise when she was moving forward! If we came cross the enemy in the cave, we could prepare for that in advance.

This fearful journey was finally over. Everything was beyond my best expectation. I didn’t encounter any single enemy along the way - neither an ogre nor something else. There were none of them in our way. The journey was too smooth to be real, I even suspected it was a trap.

But all the suspicions were gone when I used a fireball to smash the two ogres guarding the gate into ashes—they could never have imagined being attacked from inside the cave. And they turned into ashes with no clue at all - I am sure that today was my lucky day. All the luck along the way was rare.

There were no more enemies by the gate now. Maybe they would figure out what happened when they came back to see the burnt bodies of the guards. But it didn’t matter anymore. From the nagging of the Ogre in the nest, I knew that the Necromancer and his army would not come back until evening, and at night, I was sure I have gone out of the areas under his control.

"Come on!" I grabbed the little girl's hand and walked quickly towards the direction of Brian. The little girl was a little staggered by me—right at this moment, a clear explosion came to my ears.

"What's wrong!" I released the little girl's hand and ran forward. I knew very well that the voice was from where Brian was hiding. Was it...

"Wait for me..." The little girl shouted to me from behind. She was wearing an elegant dress, which made it inconvenient for her to walk up the mountain road. The dress limited her activities and kept her from catching up with me.

It was another explosion, followed with a scream, but I was sure the scream was not from Brian. It sounded more like from a goblin.

Brian had encountered a bunch of goblins. The reason why I knew it was a bunch of them was because my understanding of this race was very profound.
They did not easily attack unless their number outweighed their enemies multiple times! Of course, this situation was not common when bullying a little young guy who was obviously weaker than them. But Brian was now dressed as a magician. Although he was very young, I believe that at least a group of ten goblins would dare to attack him—all because of his magician costume.

The battle ended before my arrival. There were more than 20 goblin bodies lying on the ground. It looked like an entire patrol. Most of them were burnt, and it was obvious that they were killed by fireballs. Brian was looking at the dagger in his hand with an unbelievable expression. A magic apprentice who can't use even send a magic ball killed a whole goblin patrol in one goal, and it was a well-equipped patrol. Although the goblins were the weakest of the evil creatures, if a group of goblins suddenly jumped out to attack you, even an experienced magician would be a little troubled, let alone a rookie apprentice like Brian.

I came up to Brian, he was too excited to speak a complete sentence.

"I... I, Mr. Leiden, look... I, I defeated them... you gave me this dagger, this thing, it actually..."

He had two wounds on his body, cut by the long spears. But both wounds healed completely, obviously this dagger had absorbed the essences of those unlucky goblins.

"I know... Well done! A great job!” I encouraged and comforted him, with my eyes checking around. Previously the two ogres didn’t let the goblins into the nest, suggesting there must be a lot of goblins outside. Such a loud explosion should attract a lot of unnecessary attention. It’s better to hurry and leave here.

"Wait for me!" The little girl's voice came from behind. She almost crawled over from the other side. The rugged road and the troubling dress have tumbled her several times. Her hair was completely messed up and her beautiful dress got a lot of muddy stains.

“My Royal Princess?!" Brian had just recovered from the excitement of victory, and got a second reason to excite him. He stepped forward and bowed to the little girl. "My Royal Highness, very happy to know you are safe. I am Brain..."

The little girl didn't respond to him, but jumped to me - she could only jump in this dress - grabbing my hand.

"Wow... Did you do all these? So many goblin bodies... you are really powerful... teach me magic, ok? I will be a very good apprentice and will bring you no trouble…”

"Sorry, It’s all done by him!" I cut off the little girl’s talk and pointed to Brian, who was standing there with embarrassment. "When I came here, the battle was over, he alone killed all these goblins!"

"He?" The little girl looked at Brian carefully, of course, with a suspicious look.

"I did it, I wiped them all out!" Brian stood up bravely. If the teenager of this age did not show his bravery in front of a little girl, then he would be finished – there would be no pride for him in the future, things like admiration from beautiful girls - although Brian had just experienced a very painful moment, but he was still at a carefree age, he was a very cheerful boy, unlike me...

... I... my heart hurt again, and the depression made me suffocate... Why did I always think of the past days... Was this a sign? No... It’s too much for me. It’s all over. Everything was completely buried. What I had to do was to completely forget about everything.

I forced myself to reality. The sound of the fireball just now must have gone very far. I was afraid that this dagger would not protect us long if we didn’t march faster.

"We have to go now!" I stopped the princess from checking out the young boy. "Brian, give the dagger back to me!"

Brian hesitated a bit and handed the dagger over to me. I held the dagger in my hand. Now was not the time to chat, we must leave the area under Lewis’ control with our best efforts. I got to know the correct direction and rough distance we need to head to from the Ogre which I followed into Lewis’ room. If we set off now, we probably would arrive at the foot of the mountain by night, getting out of the area controlled by Lewis. Although the army of Lewis was very powerful, they should not dare to stay away from the mountains - on the plains, the humans were hard to deal with.

The little girl fell down to the ground again without walking few steps. It looked that we had to come up with a solution for your dress if we wanted to move faster—I looked down at her dress and use the dagger to cut it off.

The dress was cut into two pieces, becoming a skirt for her now, revealing her little white ankles—I couldn't help glance at her ankle again. In fact, this little girl was cute, and in another five years, she would definitely turn into an attractive woman.

Forget about it, I cut off my dirty thoughts and moved forward. Brian caught up with me from behind.

"Mr. Leiden, the dagger, the dagger is..."

"Did you mean this," I waved the dagger in my hand. "This is a holly tool!"

“A holly tool?”

"Yes, the treasure of a famous magician," I told him the super power of this dagger, which was unbelievable to the young man.

"By the way... If it is a holly tool, can you kill the Necromancer?" He suddenly asked me.

"Of course! But the only the magic of the dagger is not enough. But if you can give him a close-body attack, the Necromancer will be finished! Haha, but first you have to get close to him. It takes you 15 years of learning from me to reach that level of magical strength.” I said casually, ignoring the young man’s facial expressions.
