The Necromancers

Volume 1 - Chapter 13

Today was my lucky day. First, I got a lot of news from the goblins, and then I rescued the little girl without much defense from the enemies. Later, I discovered important information from the nagging Ogre. All things afterwards were smooth. We didn’t encounter any enemy. God knows where had the Necromancer headed to search me.

Although I figured out to cut off the little girl’s long dress. She was still a trouble for me on the journey. About every couple of hours, she said that her feet hurt and she needed to rest. Although we were lucky today, I still worried this luck would be over anytime soon… This worry came up to me every time when the little girl asked for a rest. But fortunately, she had not made any other requests. I knew she must be hungry, but she did not say it - although she was just a little girl, but she still knew it’s not a good time asking for food.

Brian walked behind me. I didn’t notice him because I was in a hurry. Since the beginning of our journey to the foot of the mountain, the teenager had been silent. His silence made him a completely different person from before. Though I noticed his change, I thought it was because he was still thinking about his battle in the morning—though it was with the help of the dagger, it was still him who defeated a whole goblin patrol! Such a victory was indeed worth remembering. I remembered that I had been happy for three days after destroying a wolf with magic.

The sun had finished its routine, setting slowly to the west. The night was coming again. The three of us were about to get out of the mountain areas. In fact, if it hadn't been for the little girl, we would probably have arrived at the foot of the mountain. There were no more mountains in front of us. With only one more hill to climb over, we would be reaching the plain land—then we can get the reward and get out of here. We would no longer see the Necromancer anymore. Moreover, we got another holly tool, the dagger.

The last ray of sunlight disappeared from the sky, and I had found a cave in a leeward place where I could make it a temporary shelter. I decided to spend the night in the mountain area. Travelling with a little girl in the mountains at night was rather unsafe! Though it’s still in the mountain area, but I was certain it was not an area controlled by Lewis. It should be safe here for the night.

The three of us lay in a dented cave, me staying outside, the girl and Brian inside. I've set up a protective magic around us just like what I did last night. I would have enough time in advance to be alerted if any beasts approach us. Maybe we could even turn them into our breakfast for tomorrow…After all these precautions, I lay down and fell asleep.

After a whole day of walking, I felt safe here and fell asleep quickly.

Something was touching me and woke me up. I opened my eyes, looking out of the cave. But I couldn’t see anything suspicious. I looked up a little and looked inside the cave. It was also normal, the two little kids were sleeping - this must be my illusion, after I came to this conclusion, I turned around and fell asleep again. After all, I walked a long in the mountains, even I was not the kind of magicians who lacked physical strength, I would still feel tire.

It was the sunshine that awakened me, a beam of light shining on my eyes, with the soft light waking me up. I opened my eyes and saw the little girl's sleeping face. It probably was due to the coldness at night - walking during the day gave the body heat, so we didn’t feel that cold. But at night, you would be able to tell if you wore enough clothes to keep you warm—the little girl moved towards my side, leaning on my body.

She was still asleep, I saw her silky pink face. Because she was lying on the ground, there were some dirty mud on her face. But this could not undermine her long eyelashes, delicate skin and the sweetness and docility out from her.

Although I was awake, I didn't want to move. This was my first time checking out this little girl. A small and pretty nose, soft and petite, half-translucent red lips, below her perfect face was the white neck, and then it was…from the gap of her clothes, I could tell the curved shape from a little girl’s developing body—a frightening thought popped up in my mind…Maybe she was not long a kid to me anymore…

I sprung up from my position and punched myself on my head in order to get rid of my dirty thought. I was normal, I was a normal person, I was not a pervert, I was not a pedophile, my taste of females is similar to ordinary men…I repeated these thoughts over and over again, so to suppress my dirty thought. I can't have any interest in this little girl. This was a misunderstanding, right! This was an accidental mistake, a misunderstanding! After I finally convinced myself, I turned around my head and the little girl had been awakened by my violent activities just now!

"What's wrong?" She squinted as she slowly sat up and looked at me. "Nothing!" I replied quickly, this time I found something wrong... There were only two of us in the cave, where did the young boy go?

There was no place to hide in the cave. There was nobody outside the cave, either. The kid was missing!

Maybe he woke up too early and went out to get some fresh air. Maybe he just went out a little far—though I myself didn’t believe this bullshit, I still ran out to check if Brian was anywhere outside. But nothing was outside, there was nothing moving in my vision. By just walking wouldn’t get Brian out beyond my vision.

I walked back into the cave, trying to find some clues. When I came back, the little girl sent a note to me. A piece of crumpled cloth with some scribbled words on it. This must be written in the dark. But reading scribbled words was not difficult to me. This was what Brian left behind, specifically a will.

"Mr. Leiden: Sorry, I betrayed you. I was really sorry, but I found that there was no way for me to wait for fifteen years.

I took your dagger, the dagger that could kill the Necromancer. I would use it to kill Lewis, so that I could revenge for my Master! Please don't be angry, I had to admit one more thing to you, my Master had left me a scroll, a scroll that could convert me into small animals to approach him quietly.

Sorry, Mr. Leiden. Maybe you would lose this treasure forever because of what I did today. I knew no matter I succeed or not, it was unlikely for me to survive. I hope you would forget about me, an apprentice who betrayed you. ”

This reckless little kid, I subconsciously checked my arm pocket, and then squeezed that cloth into one piece! You were too naïve to think that this trick could kill the Necromancer? He can easily crack the magic and then kill you like killing an ant! You were not going to assassinate, but to give the holly tool to the Necromancer! My poor dagger, I haven’t got a chance to use it.
still have no chance to really use you!

"Damn boy!" I yelled, then I noticed that the little girl was looking at me with fear!

No! I can’t leave it like this! I can’t give up the holly tool easily! I’d fight my life with the Necromancer just for the dagger! The kid should have not arrived at the Necromancer’s place yet. He was likely to get lost. I should be able to catch up with him, bring him back and nock his head to make him forget about the stupid idea. Right! Let me do it!

I turned to the little girl.

"Do you see over there? Just go straight, you will soon get to the foot of the mountain,” I pointed to the front. "Then you can easily find someone to help take you back to the town. Rest assured. I would quickly catch up with you after I got the stupid kid back!”

I was already running backwards while saying the last few words.

I hid in a place where I could observe the situation inside the nest. Two new ogre guards was standing at the gate, both of them looked highly alerted, unlikely their two dead predecessors. I guess Lewis must have done some precautionary work to prevent similar break-in. Hence, the guard inside the nest must have been leveled up. He’s likely in the nest, as he probably guessed that we had gone out of his territory—which was actually indeed the case, if it was not for the stupid idea of the young boy.
I didn't know if the kid had gone into the nest. It looked like I had to wait at Lewis’ room. This way, I would be able to stop Brian when he came to the nest.

Damn it. I only had one invisible spell. There was no time regretting not learning more invisible spells. Forget about it, I would find a way later.

With the completion of my spell, my body faded into the air. I easily walked past the two guardians. As long as I was didn't make any noise, there’s no way for them to detect me.

I still remembered the way to Lewis’ room. But the conditions in the rooms along the way had changed completely. The empty rooms were filled of ogres and giants, all making thunder snores! Probably they were searching around the cave last night, so they fell asleep just a moment ago. All the way to Lewis’ room, almost all the guys were sleeping! I came over to the outside of Lewis’ room—there were no guards here.

Now, I just stayed here, if the kid passed by here, I could definitely feel it...

There was a scream in the room, it was from the boy.
