The Only Delicacy

34 A Silent Agreemen

As the day was about to end, golden rays of light shown through the clinic's window, coloring the bed and the people laying on it a heavenly glow.

Soft breathings and gentle gusts of wind could be heard all across the room as two men with slightly injured foreheads intently eyed each other while embracing a naked woman in between.

The silence in the atmosphere and their intense stares went on for what seemed like forever, until one of them broke it with a dazzling smile and a soft laughter.

"To think we would fall for the same woman… Hahaha!" Kevin mockingly looked at his brother on the opposite end as he softly laughed for quite some time.

Hearing his brother's words, veins popped out of Kyle's forehead as he patiently stared at his annoying brother in order for him to finish laughing at a statement that was not even considered a joke. As he waited, he also did not forget to cover the ears of his beloved with both hands, for that annoying laughter would definitely wake her up and disturb her healing progress.

However, even though he had waited for half an hour, Kevin never stopped laughing, thereby making Kyle even more annoyed to the point that he had no choice but to open his mouth.

"Was it that unbelievable? Unbelievable for me to fall in love with a woman? Or us falling for the same woman?" Kyle gazed at his brother with both a hint of curiosity and irritation.

While he talked, Kyle wrapped his arm under his beloved's head and folded it until both of her ears were covered. Afterwards, he used his other arm to pull the blanket from their waists up towards their chest and then he placed his hand on top of the blanket covering her body.

At his brother's question, Kevin immediately stopped laughing and smiling. The entire dazzling aura emanating around him changed into someone stern and serious. At this moment, it was hard to compare between the twins if not for their different hairstyles and Kyle wearing glasses.

"Unbelievable for someone like us to even fall in love." Kevin turned his gaze away from his brother and towards the woman in his embrace. He affectionately arranged a strand of her hair back in place and then smiled towards his brother.

Hearing his brother's words, Kyle nodded as his mind corrected his brother's statement that it was more impossible than unbelievable for them to fall in love. After he had nodded, he did not reply back. Instead, he just waited for his brother to finish.

Because, from Kyle's perspective, that smile was dazzling as always. However, it had a hint of sorrow, joy, and most of all, fear.

This was yet another first for the twins: the feeling of doubt and fear for the future lingering deep within their hearts.

When he had figured out the hidden meaning behind his brother's statement, Kyle became silent for a while and intently gazed at the girl in his arms, as if he was solving one of the most difficult riddles in history.

However, no matter how much Kyle stared at her, it was all fruitless. Feelings and emotions were not riddles that could be easily solved. In fact, it could never be solved, only felt, acquired, reciprocated, or disregarded.

"We can't help it. Falling in love or not was never our choice to begin with." Kyle could only look and respond back to his brother with a hint of vulnerability. This was another additional feeling he did not like.

As he sorted out the chaotic feelings harboring and increasing within his heart, Kyle intently stared back at his beloved who was sleeping peacefully. Under the glow of the sunlight, she seemed like an angel who was sheltered from all the problems in the world.

Every time he stared at her, all the chaotic feelings harboring within him would calm down. Kyle slightly smiled and his eyes were filled with peace and contentment with having his first love within his arms.

When he saw his brother's serene smile towards her, Kevin also stared at her and felt a similar sensation within his heart, as if every negative feeling harboring within all became insignificant in front of her.

Through this, the twins realized they could not live without her. Ever since they first saw her, they already needed her.

Nothing was the same anymore.

As Kyle instinctively looked downwards, the wounds on both of her elbows caught his attention, making all the vulnerability, doubt, and fear lingering within to completely disappear. Kyle shifted his gaze from her wounds towards his brother.

"The most we could do is to face it head on and win." As he said this, Kyle's eyes were filled with conviction and power, while revealing the hidden hostility and rage he had reserved for the culprits who had dared to injure his beloved.

Kevin immediately understood the hidden meaning behind his brother's words and shifted his gaze to the wounds on her elbows that were gradually healing. Like his brother, all the insignificant feelings that were bringing him down immediately vanished into thin air.

Kevin looked back towards his brother and nodded seriously.

Since they were destined to walk this path, then they must fight every obstacle and win. Win to never regret, but to forever be happy.

As they had a silent agreement, the twins gently tightened their embrace around her. Kyle also did not forget to uncover her ears, because their matters were finally over.

When she felt the comfort and the warmth on either side of her with the gentle cold breeze blowing towards her, Scarlet instinctively smiled, because she dreamt that she was not alone and that someone was staying on either side of her. Their faces were blurry, but it did not matter.

She loved the feeling.

When they noticed her smile, their beloved seemed like a delicate white flower blooming under the sunlight.

The twins instinctively blushed and wondered if she had already discovered their feelings. Well, if she had, then that would mean less effort for their part. But sadly, they knew she was genuinely sleeping. Hence, that smile could mean she had a nice dream or they had a chance in their part.

Whether they had a chance or not, it never mattered for they were already hers, forever.

As they were gradually lulled to sleep by their beloved, the twins experienced another first. That experience was trust and reliance to another, lessening both their burdens and lulling them into a deep slumber.

Before they slept, a small voice echoed through both of their hearts, "Hello? Is the cupid there? We're waiting to be struck! Where are the cupid arrows? Aren't we always struck by it? Why aren't we struck yet?"

Sadly, that small and annoying voice was entirely neglected by all the people within the room, including the exhausted baby cupid.

As they peacefully slept, the door creaked open and the old nurse went inside. However, right when she arrived at her desk and was about to sit down, pain seeped through her ankles.

"Ack! Not again!" Mathilda yelled out in pain, destroying the tranquil atmosphere of the room. There had been too many things happening today that she felt quite tired from working non-stop.

The old nurse immediately headed towards the bed where she had last slept on during lunch break. She knew she had forgotten to place the medicine back on the shelf again. Hence, she had no choice but to half-walk and half-hop towards that direction.

Once she had arrived, Mathilda abruptly pulled the curtains open and went in.
