The Only Delicacy

49 Scarlet, Run!

"Actually, this is my first time making friends, so… If you guys really want to be friends with me, then… I'll do my best… Um, but do you know what friends do? Are there any steps that I should follow in this term called, 'friendship?' Or…" As she blabbered on and on about the endless questions that had caused her mind to be on chaos for the past years, Scarlet had never once noticed the terrible darkness and gloominess surrounding the twins.

Furthermore, it was increasing by a great fold every time she had nonchalantly uttered the word that they had considered the biggest taboo, 'friends.'

Just where on earth had they gone wrong? When did they ever say they wanted to be… 'friends'… with her? More importantly, when did they even become friends? How the hell did their beloved end up with such a preposterous and ridiculous idea?

Was it from the way they had treated her?

Yes, this was the first time they had ever tried courting a girl. Needless to say, they were inexperienced. But, even though it was their first time, everything went perfectly according to plan. They had sincerely courted their beloved like true men would! Everything was plainly written on their faces and the way they had specially treated her like she was the only woman alive who could capture their eyes.

From this point on, they could tell with one look that they had really lessened the distance from her, but had they really? Or had they unknowingly went to the wrong direction?

Both of the twins loosened their hold as they curiously stared at the odd but interesting species before them. No, they meant their beloved…

As they stared at her, Kevin revealed a dazzling and sweet smile while Kyle became all the more gloomy and stern.

Right then, Scarlet noticed their strong gazes towards her, so she stopped asking them endless questions, looked at the both of them and tilted her head to one side as she wondered if there was anything wrong with what she had said.

She did not say anything wrong, right?

Meanwhile, Kevin became amused instead of dispirited at her hurtful words.

'So, Li was this dense, huh?' Kevin laughed on the inside when he had realized that he had found another adorable side of his beloved just by doing nothing. If she was naturally dense, didn't it mean that other men would find it hard to get her? This finding made him happy, but it also made him slightly depressed.

This fact included them too, huh? Sadly, they were not an exception.

Kevin softly sighed as he stared at her, making her even more anxious and confused. His feelings right now was like a whirlpool, going around in endless circles.

On the other hand, Kyle only felt gloomy. His orderly and intelligent mind was now clouded with chaos and mixed emotions. This was yet another experience he did not know how to deal with.

"Oh, it was during the time when… when... um.... huh?" Scarlet confidently replied back to his peculiar question, but as she continued, her confidence gradually diminished and her brows furrowed downward. She unexpectedly realized something she had never wanted to.

No matter how many times she had racked her brain and turned it upside down, she found nothing! No answer! Kevin only asked for her name and Kyle only stared at her. That was all. Before she knew it, they became so close that they were literally like three peas in a pod.

They were literally inseparable!

Despite being inseparable, she finally realized something... They had never once said they were friends or even once called her their friend. Where had she gone wrong? Was she not worthy to be called their friend? That thought seemed correct...

....

Was she the only one thinking like that all this while?

As she looked deeply into Kyle's serious and detached expression, Scarlet kept her mouth shut and never once blinked, for she had now realized the pain in her heart. It was the same feeling that she had experienced ever since she had been born - the feeling of being abandoned and unloved. Except this time, it was greater, greater to the point that she had to use all of her strength to not tremble, to not shift her gaze like a coward and to not let the tears that were threatening to fall escape from her eyes.

As someone who had been used to this feeling for her whole life, when did she become this weak?

Sensing the sad and pained expression of their beloved, both of the twins gently tightened their hold once more as they affectionately gazed at her like she was the only one for them amidst a sea of billion people around the world.

Instead of feeling depressed or worried about her, the twins felt very ecstatic and elated to the extent that their minds had drifted way over cloud nine. This was another first for them. It was the first time that the both of them had both lovingly smiled at her while she was conscious. They looked so alike that it was very hard to differentiate them, if not for their different styles.

Well, how could they not be? Her pained look meant that they were indeed precious to their beloved, precious to the point that she would almost cry if she was not accepted by them.

Most importantly, that look was only reserved for them and no one else. This proved that they had lessened the distance in the right direction. Everything was perfectly according to their expectations.

In the twins' perspectives, Scarlet looked like an extremely lovely, adorable and vulnerable little bunny in their embrace.

Finally, this little bunny was fully within their palms. How they had been waiting so long for this moment!

They absolutely would not let go of her, even after death.

They were fine with anything. They would do anything for her to the point that they would willingly become friends with her if their beloved desired so. Sadly, they had greater plans for the future and being 'friends' was out of the question.

"If you have not gotten the idea until now, then I guess we have to put more effort into it and show you our feelings more…" Kyle immediately spoke as he lovingly caressed Scarlet's cheeks. On the other hand, Kevin was the one nodding this time. He did not mind if his brother had stolen his words, because what mattered more was getting this misunderstanding right before it gets even worse.

"What did they mean?" Scarlet's mind was now one hundred percent a mess.

Even though her mind was chaotic once again, Scarlet placed them all at the back of her mind.

Once Scarlet saw the mischievous smile on both of their faces, the tears that were about to fall had stopped from their tracks completely, to the point that her eyes became dry. Her forehead started to slightly drip with sweat even though the temperature was quite low. Her heart skipped a beat. Their tight embrace made her feel confined and restless. Most of all, Kyle's loving caress only made goosebumps appear all over her face.

Everything she had once felt vanished into thin air, because the adrenaline rushing through her veins was too strong. She did not know why she felt this way, but the one thing she knew was that she knew this feeling too well.

Their eyes were like predators eyeing their prey.

How did things end up like a life and death situation? Did she do something wrong without knowing again? More importantly, why was she their prey? Was she actually their prey all this time, not their friend?

Regardless of those thoughts, she had to run! She had to escape!
