The Pokemon Emissary Among Worlds

Iruka inhaled deeply and exhaled. "The teams are final. These are the new members of each team."

"Hinata Hyuga, Shino Aburame, Kiba Inuzuka - Team 8."

"Shikamaru Nara, Ino Yamanaka, Choji Akimichi - Team 10."

"Sakura Haruno, Naruto Uzumaki, Sasuke Uchiha - Team 7."

"Wait a minute, Iruka-sensei! Why does an outstanding shinobi like me have to be on the same team as that prick over there?!" Naruto screamed as he pointed at Sasuke.

"Sasuke's grades were the best of all 27 graduates and yours were dead last!" Iruka explained. "You do understand that we have to balance the teams, right?"

"Bah! Just don't get in my way, dead last," Sasuke muttered sarcastically.

"What did you say to me?!"

Iruka sighed. "Well, you can do nothing about it, Naruto. This is final. Sit down."

Naruto slumped down. "It should have been Okami, Sakura and me as a team."

"Don't listen to him, Sasuke. I hope that we can work together and know each other very well." Sakura comforted him as she moved slightly towards Sasuke.

"That's it. This afternoon, we'll introduce your Jounin-sensei's. Until then, take a break," Iruka added as he arranged the books that were set on the table.

Kiba raised his hand and stood up. "How about Okami-kun? He's a new Genin like us. Why does he have no team assignment? What's so special about him?"

Iruka grinned. "The first one who had a perfect score by answering all the test questions under half an hour. His Henge no Jutsu is perfect, without flaws. Recommended by a Jounin to graduate after studying for half a day. Approved by the Hokage and is called a very rare genius by the Hokage himself. That's what makes him special, Kiba. He does not have a group because he still has to undergo several tests to find out what team he is fit in."

"That much?!" Kiba's eyes were wide as his mouth gaped open.

"Yes. Do you have any more questions?"

Kiba shook his head, disgruntled with what he had heard.

Okami chuckled and carried his knapsack on his back. Thinking of things that were hard to predict was not his game, so he decided to ignore it for now and approached Naruto. "Hey, Naruto. I'll be going now."

Naruto was still upset over his complains about Sasuke becoming his teammate. "Oh? You're going home?"

"I don't know. Perhaps," Okami answered nonchalantly when he noticed that Sasuke was staring at him. He gave him a nod. "Well, just eat your lunch without me."

"Sure. Don't forget later at Ichiraku Ramen. We still have to celebrate our graduation," Naruto reminded him, his eyes fixed at the troublesome trio who was walking towards their direction. "Hey, Shikamaru, Choji, Kiba! Surprised that I am here, right?!"

Shikamaru bobbed his head. "Yeah. We saw how you failed the exam. Anyway, I did not expect to see Okami inside the class."

Choji waved his hands and continued eating his ch.i.p.s.

"Hey, you! You may be intelligent but you looked weak!" Kiba criticized Okami and sneered.

"Hey, Kiba. You don't know what you are talking about. He can easily destroy you with his Wind Release," Naruto defended his friend from Kiba's insults. "And you don't want to fight against his Pokemon, you will surely be defeated."

Kiba narrowed his eyes. "What are pokemon, anyway? I keep hearing them from Shikamaru."

Okami summoned Butterfree, which elicited some gasps from the Genins inside the room. He was happy when he caught everyone's attention, including Sasuke, and said, "This is one of the pokemon summons. After all, the Ketchum clan is known as summoning masters in the world of shinobis."

"I've never heard of the Ketchum clan." Kali looked at her friend and asked, "Ino, have you heard of them?"

"Father has mentioned them to me when he was with us for dinner," Ino explained as she glanced at Sasuke from time to time. "I'll tell you more, later."

"Of course, you will not hear anything about them. Because the clan is very reclusive and I am the last living descendant of the Ketchum clan. Everyone was killed." Okami unsummoned Butterfree and looked around. "Anyway, you don't have to feel sorry for me. See you, then."

Naruto patted Okami's shoulders. "See you."

Okami turned around and walked towards Iruka when Sasuke blocked his way. "Do you want anything from me, Sasuke-kun?"

"Hey, you stupid Sasuke! Don't block Okami's way! Wanna fight?!" Naruto shouted as he pointed at Sasuke.

Sasuke ignored Naruto, his eyes never leaving Okami. "You're an orphan?"

Okami nodded. "Why? Is there a problem?"

Sasuke shook his head. "I'm Sasuke Uchiha. Remember my name, Okami Okaya. I'll be the one to defeat you."

Okami smiled. "Sure, Sasuke-kun. I've heard that your eyes are strong."

Sasuke gave a rare smile and walked outside the room.

Okami was aware of Sasuke's thoughts and realized that his life story somehow got his attention. He went on and followed Iruka outside. "I'll be going home, Iruka-sensei."

"Don't go home yet. Follow me at my office. Someone wants to see you."

"Who is it? Do I know that person?"

Iruka gave a slight nod. "Yes. He insisted that he meet you before going to his team later this afternoon."

"Is it Kakashi-sensei?"

Iruka looked surprised for a moment. "Why did you say so?"

"Simple. He was the one who tutored me. I graduated because of him and out of all the Jounins in Konoha, the one who had contact with me are Kakashi-sensei and Akira-san. He has the biggest reason to look for me. If its the Hokage who was looking for me, then we will be going directly to his office."

"Who knows?" Iruka gave him a playful smile as he whistled.

Okami wanted to annoy Iruka and thought of someone. "By the way, how is your relationship with Reika-san?"

Iruka stopped his whistling as he gave him an aghast look. "What are you talking about?! Stop thinking about a.d.u.l.t matters!"

"Hah! So it's true. When is the wedding, Iruka-sensei?"

Iruka relented that he teased Okami. He knew that the kid was asking on purpose so as to tease him back. "Well, here we are. Goodbye, Okami-kun."

"Thank you, Iruka-sensei. Please inform me if you are about to wed Reika-san."

Iruka's face was beet red as he turned around and walked away.

Okami snickered. He opened the door and peeked inside. Sure enough, he saw Kakashi sitting at the edge of the window as he read the Icha Icha series.

"Hello, Kakashi-sensei. Were you the one who wanted to meet me?"

Kakashi landed on the floor and hid the book. "Yes, Okami. How are you?"

"I'm fine. Anyway, why are you looking for me?"

"It's about your current predicament. Are you wondering why you don't have a team when everyone else has one?"

Okami nodded. "I don't want to assume. Care to explain?"

"Sure. Initially, Hokage-sama wanted you to be in my team but then he changed his mind. He remembered your wish, that is to develop your clan and your Jutsu, so he intended to create a department that specializes in pokemon. But you must first prove to the Hokage that pokemon are worthy of nurturing." Kakashi wistfully replied and took out a piece of paper. "Here. Take this. Two coupons for Ichiraku Ramen. Free dinner, all you can eat. Take Naruto and celebrate for becoming a Genin."

Okami scrutinized the coupon. He was reminded of the ticket stubs given in the cinema. "Thank you, Kakashi-sensei. I will surely use this gift. And with regards to Hokage-sama's plan, I am very grateful about it. Could I meet him today? I want to personally thank him."

"He has a meeting today. That's why he tasked me to relay his message. He does not want you to think that you are being neglected."

"I understand. Well, I'm going to eat lunch, then."

"Eat with me. I have brought some food."

"Are you sure? I eat a lot because of my pokemon."

"Why?"

"Because the pokemon get their sustenance from the Pokemon Trainer when they are unsummoned. Only when they are in the 'Absorb' mode will they be in a frozen state, thereby not feeling hungry."

Kakashi set the food on the table. "You don't have to worry about a thing. I've brought lots of foods to give my team a treat. But you can eat this."

"Who's under you, Kakashi-sensei?"

"It's a secret."

Okami chuckled. "By any chance, is it Sakura Haruno, Sasuke Uchiha, and Naruto?"

Kakashi stopped what he was doing and gave him an incredulous stare. "How did you know?"

"Clan secrets," Okami replied as he chewed the tuna sushi. "Ah, these are delicious."

Kakashi wondered what else can Okami do with his Jutsu. He started eating his lunch as he kept his doubts inside his mind.

"I'm back," Okami muttered to himself when he appeared right inside his home. He changed his clothes into a plain white shirt and comfortable green shorts and lied down on the bed.

The gears were already moving and some things were meant to happen but Okami was not anxious about it. He remembered what the mysterious God told him about his stay in this world, that he should focus on being a Pokemon Emissary and not on the plot and future events. No matter what, whether he would be good or bad did not affect his assessment. What he needed to do was to let the pokemon flourish in this world but he wanted to enjoy his life in this world at the same time.

Okami summoned everyone while lying down. He was very tired and closed his eyes. He just wanted to take a nap but after a few minutes, snoring sounds echoed inside the room.

"Uuuh..." Okami woke up and felt that his body was revitalized. He stood up and went inside the bathroom when he saw his reflection in the mirror. "JIGGLYPUFF!"

Okami was annoyed at first when he began washing the pen markings off his face but he chuckled after realizing that this was the nature of Jigglypuff. He had forgiven the pokemon inside his heart and proceeded downstairs.

As usual, the pokemon were busy. Pidgey, Butterfree, and Beedrill were having their flying version of tag game. Chansey was doing some cleaning while Jigglypuff was marching behind her. Rattata was busy gnawing the blocks of wood while Paras was chasing Vulpix.

Okami laughed when he saw how active his pokemon were. He looked at the clock and saw that it was almost 4 pm. He was about to prepare the plates when he heard someone knocking against the door.

Curious, Okami walked towards the entrance and opened the door. He saw Team Akira standing outside.

"Hello, Okami-kun," Akira greeted as he peeked inside the house. "This place sure is lively."

"Hello, Akira-san, Rinan-kun, Nori-chan, and Koga-kun. Heh! The pokemon are busy playing with each other and they still need to exhaust their energy for the day."

Koga lifted the parcel that he was carrying. "For the bugs. Can I feed them?"

Okami nodded. "Please, everyone come inside."

They all followed Okami and went inside his house. Indeed, they saw the pokemon were busy with their games.

When Beedrill, Butterfree, and Paras saw Koga, they immediately stopped what they were doing and ran towards the kid. They surrounded him, giving happy sounds. Koga then opened his box and gave them lots of Tuna Sushi, which made them squealed loudly.

Vulpix ran towards Nori and jumped towards her. Nori caught him in her arms and rubbed her face against his body. "Want to eat cupcakes?"

Vulpix nodded. Nori was surprised that he could understand her and she took out her surprise for him. Vulpix gobbled up the cupcakes.

Pidgey was all alone because his playmates left him. He looked around and saw that they were surrounding Koga. Even Vulpix was with someone else. The bird noticed that Rinan had no companion and decided to play with him. He flew as fast as he could and perched on Rinan's head.

Rattata saw Pidgey flying towards the person who he fought against the other day. He scurried forward and used Quick Attack against Rinan. His target - Rinan's crotch.

It was too late for Rinan to avoid Rattata's fatal crotch attack. The hair on his nape stood as he remembered the pain from the terrible attack.

Rattata's Quick Attack never reached Rinan because a sudden gush of wind blocked the rat's attempt. Rinan looked up and saw Pidgey flapping his wings as the bird hovered above him.
