The Restless Spirit's Father

Chapter 73 - Feng'er

The clock ticked silently as the night came to devour the day. Li Feng flicked his gaze from the book he was reading to the women on the faraway couch. Wu Qianqian and Li Yunru had fallen asleep while watching over him. Since he was not in danger anymore, they didn't seem to be so attentive.

However, just now… he needed to go to the toilet. He would just call on a nurse, but could he pee in a urinal while trying to make sure he would be seen by those two women? Sigh, having his mother around wouldn't make it any better as well.

He was about to call for the nurse when the door suddenly opened. There was no one outside, but he could somehow feel like someone was trying to call him. He squinted as he tried to see who it was. If it ended up being a hungry spirit, then he shouldn't implicate Wu Qianqian.

Creak! Li Feng heard a creak from his bed. He shot his glare anywhere around him, only to find nothing that could have done so. Creak! Another sound was made, and Li Feng decided to peer at the side slowly. Just now, everything seemed to have become ominous.

At that point, heels began cl.i.c.k.i.n.g from outside. Li Feng lifted his head and saw no one by the door. He thought that the person must be only passing by the corridors round the corner. When he looked back at the side of his bed, there was already a person under the bed.

The skin was grayed like it was old, and the hair was white like snow. Her body was n.a.k.e.d yet unattractive with all the wrinkles on it. Since only the vertical half was seen, only her arm shot up to grab Li Feng.

"Yunru!" Li Feng called out as he rolled off of the bed with all his might. Bang! His casts seemed to crack upon impact with the floor. He hissed at the pain and saw the old woman crawl out from the other side. She was grinning, but her mouth had no more teeth so it remained agape instead.

"Yunru!" Li Feng screamed as he got on his elbows and crawled hurriedly, leaving a trail of blood with his broken casts and damaged legs.

The woman stirred from her sleep and sat up properly. She then looked at Li Feng's direction… and only stared. As soon as Li Feng got close, the holes on her face turned black and had begun to pull down.

"Shit! A haunting! Help! Wake me up!" Li Feng was horrified, but he knew exactly what was going on. This wasn't new as he had been around spirits for a very long while.

He continued to get near the other couch and used it to get to his feet even if it was awfully painful. He only relied on his overdosage of adrenaline not to feel much of the pain.

"You gotta be kidding me!" Li Feng managed to stand as he tore off his casts violently. The old lady was able to reach him by now, but he darted a gaze at the Li Yunru that wasn't his Li Yunru.

He then lunged to grab the hollowed face and threw her to the old lady on the floor. A groan came from the old lady who struggled to get the unmoving girl off of her.

Li Feng then lunged at the walls and tried to navigate the place while bleeding on his legs. Every step was hell, but Li Feng had to escape.

In the hallway, he didn't go to where the cl.i.c.k.i.n.g sounds were coming from. It must be a more powerful ghost… one that blatantly ignored Guangru's warning to everyone.

He kept on whispering to himself as he tried to drown the pain. Since there was no more threat around, his levels of adrenaline were decreasing. The pain was now the only thing haunting him. He continued dragging himself and trying on different doors that would open.

Again and again, he failed to open any.

"Someone… help me…" Li Feng finally gripped at the last door he came to. With a hard twist, the door opened. His eyes lit up for a moment, and he entered the place.

It was another VIP ward like his. However, it was occupied. There was a woman on the bed, and she was blankly staring at the wall in front of her room. Her eyes were puffed and swollen, and there were dark lines under her eyes. She didn't seem to be fond of sleeping.

"Hello?" Li Feng asked as he tried to ease in, but he actually fell down hard on the floor.

Bang! The woman was startled. As soon as she came to, she looked around and started crying loudly. Li Feng got on his elbows again and crawled towards her bed. When she caught sight of him, she gasped and picked up her pillow. She then pushed it against her face.

"No more! No more! Please! No more!" She continued to cry like she was a pig about to be slaughtered.

"Wait, wait, it's fine!" Li Feng could tell if it was a ghost or a person diving into the unknown. Right now, this girl was unknowingly spending time in the spirit realm, falling victim to multiple haunters in the hospital. He reached the bed and tried to mount it. "Miss, I won't hurt you… please stop crying…"

"What?" The woman lowered the pillow and saw the man trying to get onto her bed. She then reached out to help him, and Li Feng sighed of relief when he finally got on something soft again. He opened his eyes and looked at the girl who was still wary of him.

"It's okay…" Li Feng smiled at her, but she was still wary. Then, he caught her gaze at the door and instantly grew fearful. At the same time, the sound of cl.i.c.k.i.n.g heels echoed outside.

The girl then moved deep into her blanket and pulled Li Feng closer to cover him with it as well. She then spoke, "Shhh, she won't see us if we're hiding…"

Li Feng frowned before gazing at the end of the bed. His blood trail might give him away; there was no way they could be safe like that.

The door opened, and the girl held onto Li Feng's arm tightly. She was indeed very scared, and the comfort of having a stranger next to her was the only thing keeping her from screaming her head off. Li Feng placed a hand on the girl's hand as they continued to hide.

"Feng'er… it's time for your medicine…"

The two patients underneath the blanket twitched. The girl didn't know why the ghost's dialogue changed tonight; it used to be always her. However, it was 'Fenger' right now…

Li Feng bit his lip as he glared at the direction of the door. The sound of the cl.i.c.k.i.n.g heels grew closer to the bed, and the sweet voice kept on reminding Feng'er about his medicine.

The man grabbed the blanket and rolled off the bed, pushing the girl out of the bed as well. The girl screamed as she fell, but she screamed louder when she saw the morphed spirit of a female nurse.

Her lower half was fine, but the upper half was thrice the size of a normal person. The arms could reach the ground if placed on rest, and the hair was covering her entire face.

"Keep quiet!" Li Feng yelled at the girl as he continued rolling to get away from the nurse's reach.

The nurse turned to the side and pulled out the big syringe she was holding. She then lunged and missed Li Feng. The shaman got on his knees and endured the pain. He then soon got to his feet and evaded the nurse again.

Before she could launch her next attack, Li Feng threw the blanket on her head and obscured her already obscured vision. She then screamed and dropped the syringe.

Li Feng went to grab it and saw that it was loaded with a yellowish serum. Without further thinking, he stabbed the syringe at the woman's legs and slammed a thumb to inject the yellow thing inside her.

"You! You! How dare you!" The nurse removed the blanket and went to grab Li Feng with both hands. From her parting hair came a large vertical mouth. "You dare!"

"Holy shit!" Li Feng's eyes widened as he was being drawn towards a mouth. He was about to be eaten.

Wait… could he be a pineapple and bite her back? He remembered that the Weeper had repeatedly told him to consume another spirit to heal his legs. Then again, how was he supposed to 'eat' the ghost?

As the stench of the mouth wafted into Li Feng's nose, he suddenly lost the will to fight. Perhaps, this was the end. However, he caught a glimpse of the girl who was watching from the side. If he failed to pacify this ghost, she would eat the girl next. Like him, she was a living soul s.u.c.k.e.d into the void.

No, he had been failing recently. Would he die a failure?

Ooze. As if his mood had opened a gate to something, dark miasma eased out his skin. He felt like something was controlling his body as it tried to break out of the grip.

The nurse pulled back as she smelled the miasma, but it attacked her profusely. The nurse threw Li Feng to the wall next to the girl as she screamed from the pain. The black miasma was like a swarm of locusts eating her bite after bite.

"F-Feng'er?!" The girl crawled to the man who was almost passing out. "Feng'er!"

Li Feng lost consciousness soon enough. The black miasma subsided, but the nurse was already slurped like smoke by a vacuum. The girl also soon felt that she was waking up. She then lied herself on top of Li Feng.

"Thank you."

"Feng'er!" Li Feng tore his eyes open as if he just had a nightmare. His eyes wildly looked around and had already seen Mian Bingbing and Li Heilong looming their faces before him. He then sighed as he felt his body intact.

He survived.
