The Retired

After sending Diana on her way, Alex returned to his home and thought about the conversation he just had with her about joining the League.

He took the bottle of wine from earlier and entered his room, He just sat there in his bed and thought about the past, Diana open up old memories from the past both good and bad.

"Heroes huh..." He muttered as he stared at the ocean unmoving.

He really wanted to join the League in the past but...after the war he realized that he couldn't. He was so deep in the Hellhole that he just couldn't see himself stand along side the good guys anymore.

They are the Champion of Light, a symbol of hope to human kind and with him being of the Dark would clash. He was the kind of guy that won't leave loose end behind and would surely conflict with the League's no killing rule.

It was a naive rule, but a necessity for the Heroes to last. It will help pave the necessary mindset of the heroes and help embed in their minds to always see the good in everyone, to see no matter how futile it is, everyone can still be redeemed, to never give up on them...but He was not that kind of guy, not anymore.

Alex sighed as he finish his bottle of wine and slumped down in his couch.

"I'm really ..tired..." he muttered before falling to sleep.

"Hmm...This should be the place." Alex was currently on top of a building overlooking his target down below.

Hugo von Abel, an enemy General of the Axis power. His mission was to assassinate the General so that the Allied power can break through to the Axis choke point near France.

His target was below having dinner with his wife and son. He stalk them for a whole day and when nnigt comes he made his move. The reason he did this was because he doesn't want to involve the wife and the kid, he was only here for one target only and that target is the only one dying tonight.

He teleported inside their living room and found the man there sitting in his couch just by himself. The man didn't even bother to react when he saw Alex teleport in front of him as he then started talking.

"They say you'd come to visit me one day." Said the General as he took a sip on his wine. "So you are the feared Monster, whose been killing all my comrades."

"Your death is necessary" Alex monotonously said.

"I guess it is...I've gather a lot of sins because of the things I've done in this war, I'm not proud of them but orders are orders and it's a high time for me to pay." the man replied as he drunk once more from his cup, Alex wasn't quite sure at the moment, if the man was really drunk or that his already resign to his faith.

The man gain a solemn look and then said. "I really feel guilty when my son look at me like I'm some kind of Hero or how often he would boast to his friends how awesome his dad was, when in reality I'm not.....I was a monster although I was following orders the death of millions was still on me, I just hope that when he grows up and realized how evil I was, I-I....hope he forgives me..."

Alex just stayed quite until the man finish pitying himself and turn to look at him with resolve.

The man stood up and wore his upper uniform and hat as he then took a step outside, Alex follows the man until he turn towards him and saluted "I'm ready to be decommissioned..."

Alex responded with his own salute to atleast honor the man and took a pistol from his holster and said "I've accept your resignation...."

He pulled the trigger killing the General immediately, he then move towards the general and properly lay the man down in the grass and said "you were neither innocent nor evil, just a soldier following his orders... but your death was necessary to end this war... may the Valkyries lead you to Valhalla..."

Alex then teleported to the previous building and watch as the family of the General run to his body, they cried and curse his name and cried some more.

He then remembered a certain phrase he used to hear from the vikings in Valhalla. "There's no winners in war just the damned and there's no clear right or wrong in it, just their principle against ours so either you die honorably or you can die a cowards death."

Alex woke up to the bright sunlight of the sun as he have fallen asleep in his couch, he notice a blanket in him and felt something on his c.h.e.s.t.

He search for other presence and heard footsteps echoed down the hall along side Skye's voice. A pur sounded from his c.h.e.s.t as Bast head came out from the cover and lick him in the face.

Skye came and smiled at the of them. "She really like you more than me huh...half way done with her food when she started making a fuss while gesturing at your picture."

"Yeah, she is quite the lovely companion and a smart one at that" Alex smiled as he pet the adorable panther.

Skye set opposite to him and said "So how was the reunion?"

Alex unconsciously rub his face and replied "well...it was okay... though I could do without the slap thing, that woman has a really heavy hand"

"Hahaha....you got slap by Wonder Woman? You must have done something really idiotic to deserve that." Skye said as she laugh her a.s.s out.

"Geez...there's no need to laugh that hard...though why are you here, I thought you had a meeting with SpaceX today?" Alex ask.

Skye shrugged and replied "well we finish early because Musk was readily accepted the deal though he did ask for a second season of No Game No life, he said and I qoute 'the anime was amazing and has lots of potential'"

Alex chuckle at Musk antics, throughout the years Alex ventured and bought quite a few Animation studios in Japan especially the ones who created his favorite animes back in the day that were sadly stop because of the lack of funding, he really made sure that in this universe anime's like no game no life will be created masterfully and finish it's entire story!

"Project: Ultron Virus is complete and ready for testing also Paula informed me of a tiny commotion in our territory in Gotham but she assured me it was nothing to worry about though she did ask when you're going to visit." Skye said.

"Okay thank you for informing me, I'll personally test Ultron myself next week and tell Paula I'll visit tomorrow." Replied Alex.

Skye nodded and then added "also I've emailed to you the list of possible secretary that meet the requirements and the interview will be the day after tomorrow".

"Thank you my beautiful daughter, I'll be sure to look at it tonight and... have you eaten dinner yet? I'm getting hungry, What do you say I treat you with one of my cooking for the good job?" Alex grin as he did that which irritated Skye a bit though she still can't help but smile and accept the offer.

"Yes, dear Father."
