Lumi stopped in her tracks and turned to look at her grandma with a smile. “Who said the company is out of money? Ryan’s former classmate has invested a large sum of money in the company last night, and we will collect the $20-million debt from Newlane Logistics. The company is no longer in financial difficulty. So Grandma, be rest assured that the company that my grandpa left behind will prosper.”
Grandma, Anthony, Jonathan, and Lillian looked at each other, feeling butthurt.
The company had got a new capital injection?
And Newlane Logistics had agreed to pay up?
Why did they not know about that? The key was, Lilian and Jerome were still holding important positions in the company, and they had their people in the finance department, too.
Why did they not receive information on such an important matter?
After Ryan bought back all of their shares, and when Lilian got her $3 million, she was snickering, as she did not have to worry about the company going bankrupt anymore.
But now, with the money in her hand, she felt terribly shortchanged.
Selling the shares dirt cheap for $3 million was just to force Lumi’s hand. Had she not done that, she could have gotten at least double the value at over $6 million now.
Grandma sat back down on the chair, staring blankly at Lumi and Ryan and muttering something to herself as they walked out of the living room. “Did you pre-arrange this, too, old man?”

Inside Allan’s car, just outside Mears’ residence, Raymond and Allan punched the upholstery in anger. “D*mn it. How dare Ryan take Lumi from me? Dream on!”
Raymond was angry, too, after Ryan blackmailed him to give up the position of president. “We must not put up with this. Ryan is just trash. He thinks he can do anything he wants after helping Preston Parker find the contract documents. We have to get rid of him.”
There was a vicious look in Allan’s eyes, as the thought of Lumi’s bloodline further strengthened his determination. “You are right. Isn’t Ryan working at the Royal Bar? Let’s wait and see. I am going to teach him a lesson.”
While speaking, he dialed a set of numbers on his cell phone. “Kukri, I have a job for you. Make sure you tie up any loose ends. It’s two million dollars for you after it’s done.”
Raymond got a call from his father, Anthony, as soon as Allan hung up. “Ryan and Lumi will go to Newlane Logistics to collect the debt afterward. Inform Allan and see if he can stop them. Otherwise, the company will fall into Lumi’s hands.”
“They are going to Newlane to ask them to pay up? You must be kidding me. It is the company that my dad is investing in. I will make a call and they will not get a single cent from Newlane.” He sneered and made another call.

After leaving Mears’ residence, while driving, Lumi kept stealing glances at Ryan, who was sitting in the front passenger seat. “Thank you, Ryan.”
She had a thousand words to tell him, but all that had condensed into just three words.
Ryan glanced over at her with a smile. “You are my wife, Lumi. Do you need to say thank you? Besides, I am the one who should thank you—you saved my life when you were small.”
Twenty years had passed. According to the old physician, the blood transfusion from Lumi could only suppress the seven types of toxin in his body for twenty years. If Ryan could not find the person whose body had the antidote of the second toxin and perform a blood transfusion before he turned 25th, it would not be long before the toxins killed him.
So Ryan intended to confess to her.
Taken aback, Lumi stepped on the brake pedal involuntarily and stopped the car on the road shoulder. “I saved your life when I was small? I don’t even remember that.”
Ryan let out a slight smile as he pulled up his T-shirt to reveal his chest.
There was a colorful birthmark on his skin. At the size of a bowl, the birth mark looked like a lotus flower with seven petals, and the color of six of the petals was relatively dull, and that made the remaining yellow petal stand out.
The birthmark looked like a tattoo. It stunned Lumi to see this birthmark on his body. “How did you get this birthmark on your body?” While speaking, she pulled her short skirt up her thigh, on which there was also lotus-patterned, yellow birthmark on her skin.
When looking closely, it looked identical in terms of size and pattern to that on Ryan’s body.
But Ryan was not surprised at all at seeing the same birthmark on Lumi’s skin.
He pulled back down his T-shirt with a serious face. “The pattern on my chest is actually a sign of the seven toxins in my body. Someone had poisoned me with these toxins while I was still in the womb. These toxins are extremely lethal. Under normal circumstances, I should not have died when I reached the age of five. Just when I was five, I found you. We underwent a blood transfusion and I could live another twenty years.”
Ryan’s explanation sounded a little mysterious.
But Lumi knew a lot more than ordinary people did, considering where she came from—a relatively wealthy and influential family. She knew that above ordinary folk, there were martial art practitioners whose physique was above that of ordinary humans. Similarly, in the Southwest, there were evil physicians who misused toxins for self-interest.
What Ryan said might be true. Something came to mind after she digested what Ryan said. “Do you mean I have an antidote in my body?”
Ryan nodded. “Yup. The compound in your body was an antidote to one of the seven toxins in my body. So when I was transfused with your blood, it neutralized one of the toxins.”
Lumi had still not fully grasped what he said. “What about the six remaining toxins in your body? Are you going to die if you can’t find the antidotes to the remaining six toxins?”
“I will be dead, no doubt about it.” Ryan sighed. “So the purpose of me coming to Saltband City is to repay my debt of gratitude, and to find the person with the antidote to the second type of toxin. Time is running out—I have less than a month.”
There was another reason he came to Saltband City: to complete the familial test and escape the pursuit of his cousins and family enemies. He knew Lumi would not believe him even if he told her about it.
Lumi’s face became serious after she figured out the seriousness of the matter. “Don’t worry, Ryan. I will help you find the antidotes to the remaining six toxins. What are the characteristics of those who carry the antidotes? Do they have a similar pattern like mine on their bodies?”
Ryan nodded. “Yup. We can only find them one at a time.” His grandpa had used his family’s power and influence to search for a solution for him. But after so many years, he could only find a person, who was Lumi, who carried an antidote after so many years. Finding the rest of them would not be easy.
“Let’s drive to the office first. There must be a lot of work to do after we fired all the relatives. I will help you get back the money from Newlane as soon as possible,” he said to Lumi with a gentle look in his eyes.
Lumi had given him the cold shoulder in the past. But overall, she was not bad either. He was expecting the worst: even if he ran out of time in finding the antidote for the second toxin, he still wanted to try his best to assist Lumi to put the company back on track.
“OK.” Lumi hesitated for a second as she restarted the car. “You are going to ask Newlane to pay up? Are you sure you can?”
Ryan gave her a wicked smile. “A man will never say he can’t.”
Lumi blushed. Before she could say anything, a commercial van came from behind and stopped diagonally in front of their car, blocking their way.
The door of the commercial van opened as several burly men in black suits emerged and came to the side window, their faces expressionless. “Please come with us, Mr. Fletcher. Our boss would like to see you.”
What was going on? Lumi was struck dumb.
