The sudden appearance of Ryan stunned Lumi and Raymond.
“Well, well, well, see who is here! Isn’t this my brother-in-law picked up from the garbage dump? Interesting. Don’t you need to serve customers at the bar? What are you doing here? Trying to show that you are somebody? Eight hundred thousand dollars, have you ever seen eight hundred thousand dollars? Talk big!” Raymond sniffed. “If you can take out eight hundred thousand dollars, I will eat poop live.”
Lumi frowned when she saw Ryan. “Don’t mess around here, Ryan. I have invested all my money in the company. Where can I get so much money?”
As the president of the Mears Corporation, Lumi earned several million dollars each year. Together with her previous savings, she had over ten million dollars originally. If not for the company’s financial predicament, buying eight-hundred-thousand-dollar earrings for grandma was not a problem at all.
The recent cash crunch that her company experienced had forced Lumi to inject her own money into the company. She was left with only three hundred thousand dollars. So she definitely could not afford those earrings.
“Honey, I have money. And my money is your money,” Ryan said with a smile.
He handed the sales assistant his debit card. “Here, I will pay for it.”
Lumi was taken aback. But by the looks of Ryan’s action, it did not seem to be a joke.
“I would like to see how far you can pretend, hmph!” Raymond sneered.
The sales assistant hesitated for a while before entering a sum of eight hundred thousand dollars into the POS machine. “Please enter the PIN, sir.”
Ryan was still wearing his waitstaff uniform. How could a waitstaff afford an eight-hundred-thousand-dollar purchase? But the sales assistant played along out of respect for customers.
Beep! Beep! Beep!
After Ryan entered the PIN and pressed to confirm, the POS machine spat out a printed receipt.
The transaction was successful.
It stunned the sales assistant, Lumi, and Raymond.
Ryan’s mouth twitched as he glanced at the sales assistant. “What are you waiting for? Wrap it up. I have already paid. Won’t you sell it to me?”
“A moment, sir.” The sales assistant came to her senses and quickly packed the earrings into a gift box.
Ryan turned around and threw a glance at Raymond. “I thought you vowed to eat poop live online? Should I give my poop to you?”
“You—That’s impossible!” Raymond’s expression collapsed. He stepped forward and took the receipt to examine it. There was a string of zeros, and it was eight hundred thousand dollars.
Raymond did not want to admit defeat. His eyes rolled as he thought of something. “A trash like you shouldn’t have so much money. You must have stolen it. It must be! Lumi, be careful with this guy. Don’t get implicated.”
Lumi was worried by what Raymond said. “Where did you get the money from, Ryan?”
She knew how much he earned working at the bar. With a take-home pay of ten thousand dollars a month, he could save five thousand dollars at most after deducting the usual living expenses. But that would not be good enough to explain the origin of the eight hundred thousand dollars.
The question startled the sales assistant, too. If this eight hundred thousand dollars were stolen money, the authority might recover it from them. So they must be careful.
Ryan had long foreseen this question and had prepared an answer for this. “I got lucky and struck a lottery yesterday. I have got one million dollars after tax. Would you like me to show you the lottery ticket?”
That made sense now.
Lumi and the sales assistant secretly breathed a sigh of relief upon hearing his explanation.
That explained it.
“But you shouldn’t spend money like this!” As much as Lumi disapproved of the way he spent the money, she was still grateful to him.
After all, he had just helped her out and bought a present for her grandma.
“It’s the least I can do. Besides, it is your grandma. Am I right, Raymond, brother-in-law?” He looked at Raymond with a wicked expression. “Are you not leaving yet? Do you really want to eat poop?”
“hmph! Let’s wait and see!” Raymond shot him and Lumi a glare before turning around to leave.
While going, he dialed a number on his cell. “Kukri, I have got a job for you. Find someone smarter to do it.”
‘hmph! An eight-hundred-thousand-dollar present? I would like to see if you can spend another eight hundred thousand dollars if the gift is broken.’

Lumi and Ryan left the jewelry shop together. She seemed to have an illusion—Ryan seemed a little different from before. But she could not tell what it was.
When they reached the elevator and Lumi was about to take the elevator downstairs, he stretched his hand to hold her back. “What’s the hurry? Let’s check out the clothing store over there. To be honest, I feel very sorry for you as your husband. You have been supporting me since I was fifteen. Now I should buy you something as appreciation.”
Lumi was taken aback. “You are buying me clothes? Stop messing around, Ryan. You just won a one-million-dollar lottery; don’t splash money unnecessarily. Besides, the company is facing a crisis. If it goes under, we will… we will…”
Lumi had been losing appetite and could not sleep well because of that.
Seeing Lumi’s expression, he could not help but feel sorry for her. “Don’t worry about the company. I met my classmate in the afternoon. He agreed to invest in the company. I presume the money is about to be in place now.”
“You looked for your classmates for money? Ryan, can you stop joking? I know most of your classmates who have a good relationship with you. They are not rich enough to take out thirty million dollars.” She apparently did not believe what he said. She even looked disappointed.
Just because he had won a million-dollar lottery, he started to self-aggrandize?
Just then, her cell rang.
It was the company secretary, Patricia. “Good news, Miss Mears. Someone who claimed to be a classmate of your husband invested thirty million dollars in the company. We are out of trouble now.”
The secretary sounded excited over the phone while Lumi looked over at Ryan in shock and suspicion.
Had he really secured investment for the company?
Did he have some wealthy classmates that she did not know of?
“Are you sure that the fund has arrived, Patricia?” Lumi gasped, her face flushing. If the thirty-million-dollar fund was in place, the company would sail through this difficulty, and she no longer had to beg those men for money.
“It is true… But what makes me curious is that the person didn’t ask any question except for the company bank account number for transferring the fund. We have not even signed an agreement yet. He said we could just send it to him by courier later. At first, I thought it was a scam.”
“Okay, I get it. Withhold the news first, and don’t tell anyone.” Lumi hung up and turned to look at Ryan, studying him. “Tell me the truth, Ryan. Are you a rich kid or some tycoon?”
