The Ruthless Dragon God

Chapter 21 - Well its not as easy as it sounds

Rex walked with a long hammer on his shoulder towards the forest. Though the hammer wasn't that big it was still heavy for a 10 year old.

A 10 year old boy walking with a hammer on his shoulder brought him to attention of all the people present on the road and they made hilarious comments on his expense.

Neglecting them all, Rex continued towards the forest at the west of the village. This forest was known as the Basrose Woods.

Few roads were made by cutting through the forest but the overall forest was spread over quite a distance.

Rex was going to hunt in the outskirts of the Basrose Woods. Its boundary had sparse vegetation while as you went in deeper the vegetation grew denser.

The trees at outer edge were spaced at a bigger distance from each other and allowed enough passage of sunlight through it.

This made the forests well lit and allowed growth of smaller vegetation and plants. This made the outskirts well filled with a quite a number of herbivores animals.

The animals which were affected by pollen of Pandora had gone through mutations and gained abilities. They were called devil beasts and were graded according to the power.

Grade 1 was the devil beast of the lowest order, while those with higher power were graded higher.

Even though grade 1 beast were of the weakest power, they still were devil beasts which made them powerful than the normal animals.

Normal animals and devil beasts had a huge difference as between as land and the sky in their strength. Outskirts of the forest were filled with normal animals moving in the periphery.

Rex entered the forest ready to hunt the animals with his hammer. He stood still trying to hear the sounds of animals and birds trying to find a clue.

Wind blew as he stood, but not a single sound came in the forest. Silence! There was not a single sound showing presence of an animal nearby.

Hearing no sound, he moved to another location trying the same, but similar scenario continued. Faint chirping was being heard, but determining direction and finding them on that sound was simply impossible.

He continued doing it for about three hours or so trying to find some sound, but the result was same. He grew tired and bored but the determination in his mind prevailed over them as he moved to another spot.

But this spot was different than other spots. At first like the previous location, there was no indication of an animal presence. But when he turned around to leave the spot, he saw the bush behind him shaking.

He stood still, to see what was shaking that bush. Suddenly a brown squirrel jumped out of that bush and looked around for some food.

Seeing that Rex grew happy and madly rushed after that squirrel with a hammer held high, ready to smash it up on the squirrel's head.

But hearing some movement the squirrel got alert ready to flee. And when it saw a human running towards it, it retreated back into the bush and from there jumped onto a tree and escaped.

Rex saw it return back into the bush and he followed it into the bush trying to find him. But all he got in result was some scratches from thorns of the bush and a big caterpillar running down on his leg.

Disappointed at his failure he decided to return from that direction and started walking but in his way he came across a burrow on a small mound in the forest.

This burrow was well hidden among small shrubs and trees from the eyes of predators and had a proper shade.

Rex thought, 'This burrow should have some animal residing over here. Maybe if I hide in bushes waiting for the resident to come out then I can kill it easily.'

So he stood still hidden in bushes waiting for his prey to emerge out of the hole.

Smack!!

A huge slap resounded as he lifted his left hand from his right arm as huge hand print got printed on it.

With his left hand still stinging from the impact of the slap he rubbed the hand on his pants as he rubbed the residue of a dead mosquito on them.

Mosquitoes, the insect which sucks the blood of other animals were present in the forest. The shrubs were full of mosquitoes which started s.u.c.k.i.n.g Rex's blood.

Due to this he couldn't stand still and smacked mosquitoes killing them on his body. But due to this his hiding spot was given away.

With his attention at killing mosquitoes he wasn't able to spot a rabbit exit from the burrow and could spot it only after it traveled a distance away from him.

Disappointed and sad about letting the prey escape from his hand, he dropped his hammer and stood at the side thinking about him.

Just then another two rabbits emerged from the hole and ran into the forest.

Seeing his luck being not bad and assuming that there were more rabbits inside the burrow, he again took his position ready to hunt.

This time he waited without giving any f.u.c.k about the mosquitoes biting him, he just had one aim to kill and get the animal.

As he waited, his stress on his mind grew, his heartbeats got faster. His hands turned sweaty as he held the hammer high in air ready to strike.

A head stuck out of the burrow and Rex without thinking anything further just slammed the hammer on the head.

BAM!!
