The Talentless Sage

"Okay class, take your seats!" The teacher slowly walked into the table and introuduced himself, "As you all know, I am the sage of this village and your teacher from now on, I am Mertil" He bowed with one hand on his c.h.e.s.t and made a friendly smile.

"How about you introduce yourselves?" He said and pointed his hands on Axel, "You first!"

Axel stood up and introduced himself, his spirit-type and his age. Selena was next and so was Klein and so on. After a dang long time of introducing, we were introduced to the world of Xertia.

Xertia is seperated into four continents: Damascus, Alfheimr, Bronza, and the biggest continent, Yggdrasil.

There are 4 types of intelligent race: Humankind, Beastkin, Demonfolks, and Elvens. They are the most dominent creatures on Xertia, living together in peace and harmony. Although Demonfolks are sometimes regarded as the reincarnations of Spirit Demons, it was shown that they were rather harmless.

Humankind, who was the second in the ranking of spirit-users, are the most prominent and superior.

Beastkin, who has a spirit-sea but cannot use any spirit attacks, they are the most advanced in technology and they are the ones who invented "Spirit Tools" that convert the Spirit Energy into spirit attacks. They were able to kill their disadvantages through sheer intelligence and hard work

Demonfolks, third in ranking of spirit-users. They were once regarded as people of unfortune and the reincarnation of Spirit Demons. They were later known to be harmless to humans and were accepted into society.

Elves are the first in rank in spirit-users. They understand the nature of spirits and makes the spirit attracted to them, they are the proud and keen creatures.

"Do you get that?" Mertil explained a portion of Xertia as he wrote in the blackboard the informations needed for the children.

"Teacher, we already know this!" Klein exclaimed. It is normal for a child to be so houghty on something he already knows, "Tell us how to cultivate already!" he shouted.

Mertil smiled faintly and explained, "You must understand the world and its sorroundings. Do you even know what a spirit is?" Mertil jokingly asked Klein.

"Of course." He shouted energetically, "Spirits are the power source of Xertia and its inhabitants. They are ones who gives power and balance through the world by being one with other creatures!"

Mertil clapped as he joyly said, "Good job, if you already know this much... Then Axel, please explain the different types of spirit-users!" Mertil pointed out to Axel as he finished clapping.

[Something about this kid is weird, the moment I let out blood l.u.s.t in the classroom for my own enjoyment, this guy reacted with fierce] Mertil thought, [He's still a child, how can he detect impure energy already?] Mertil then smiled slightly, imagining what Axel will achieve in the future.

Axel stood up, not like the unpolite Klein and explained.

"There are three types of Spirit-users: The Offensive, The Defensive and the Supprtive.

The Offensive-types specialize in attacks and are usually the most common to have. They have great strength and more powerful skills in exchange for defense and mobilty.

The Defensive on the other hand, is the opposite of the Offensive, they are uncommon but also strong to have on a team. They give out barrages of defense for the team in exchange for power and more powerful skills

The Supportive is the rarest. They have the ability to heal and buff the team according to their spirit energy. The more spirit energy they have, the stronger their skills are gonna be."

Axel explained in great detail which made the whole classroom silent, "I-I see, good job explaining Axel. You can sit down now." Mertil happily said and moved on to the other topics.

[Crap, I over did it!] Axel thought in regret.

Mertil looked at Axel the second time and and hid his big grin, [This kid...] and looked back on the blackboard, moving on to the other topics.

...

"That's it for today!" Mertil said, "Tomorrow, you will learn how to cultivate your spirit sea and learn your first move!" He shouted with his index finger showing.

"Really!" Klein was excited. For a boy who has a lot of potentional, I'm excited to see this.

After a while, Axel and Selena went home together since they are just neighbors. Selena was happily holding Axel's shoulder while Axel is obviously blushing.

[For me, the Talentless Sage to get this embarrassed!] He exclaimed in his thought.

"What was that!" Axel shouted as he looked behind them which startled Selena, "What's going on?" Selena asked.

[That was killing intent] Axel was sure of it.

Axel who saw the worrying Selena, smiled, "It's nothing." And patted her head as they all went along to go home, "I love it when you pat my head!" Selena shouted.

While on the back of a wall, Mertil was smiling as he already found the one... "Finally, after waiting this long!" and walked slowly back to the forest, where his tower is located.

That night, Axel was already cultivating. The moment he returned home, he rushed in his room and already cultivated for atleast 5 hours but unfortunately, his spirit energy only rose to 1

Though it may seem like it's not working, heavenly energy was obviously entering every one of his pores. It's just that he has a white spirit sea, which prevented him to do anything but wait.

Spirit Energy: 3 / 100.

While cultivating, he felt the same killing intent and rushed through his window and opened it, "Who's there!" he shouted.

Then, a mysterious figure came out of the bushes, "It's me." The mysterious figure slowly turned into someone you know - Mertil.

Axel, who was still on high alert, asked, "Why were you releasing killing intent?" Axel asked agressively.

Mertil, who was covering his hands on his light robe said, "Because, I was confirming something." Mertil replied, "How were you able to sense killing intent?"

Axel's eyes widened, [Crap, I've let my guard down. My past life was always on high alert since I always travel to dangerous places. It's basically a habit.] Even though he was once a Talentless Sage, he was still a klutz.

"I'll keep that a secret" Axel smiled faintly as he replied.

"You..." Mertil was acting strange, somewhat different from his natural behavior, "You...." Mertil was somewhat speechless.

"W-what?" Axel was beginning to become uncomfortable and started closing the window but he was sstopped as Mertil's hand began to slam the window, "You..."

"You are perfect!" Mertil exploded in happiness. "W-what?" Axel was puzzled, [This guy is crazy, just like my past life.]

"Please, come to the tower with me." Mertil said as he pulled Axel's hand in a hurry. Axel pushed his arm back and said, "Why would I trust you?"

"You have a white spirit sea, do you not?" Mertil slightly smiled as he looked back on Axel.

The moment Mertil said about his spirit sea, he has no choice but to follow. It's better than having nothing and who knows, he might help him about his spirit sea. He couldn't stop the curiousity of his past-life, he was still a traveler at heart.

"Axel, are you okay? I felt killing intent-..." Mom banged the door again to see the lad Axel, disappeared into the night.
