The Unknown God

Chapter 20 - 19 Moventus

Stunned, the sword-wielding goblins cashed in on the opportunity. Three attacks approach Simply, while his remain health was only a single digit: 7.

A shadow flew out of the darkness. It descended towards them before they could land the killing blow. A thin white light emerged from it. The light marked the goblins' nape before blood gushed out. Three bodies crumbled to the ground, twitching.

A young man stood in place of the shadow. Dressed in black-tainted beginner clothes, he held a blood-stained katana. The chipped blade moved in a sharp arc over his head. Bringing it down on a sneaky arrow. The hooded man dashed towards the arrow's origin, bringing his katana horizontal to the ground, tip towards his back. He brought his body down. An arrow flew overhead. Sliding, he cleaved of the archer's legs, following it with his head.

"That was f.u.c.k.i.n.g cool, dude. Thanks for the safe. My name is Simply what's yours?"

"Moventus. Your skill with the sword is... good."

"Hahaha, but no way near yours! I'm going to slaughter these guys in there. An extra blade wouldn't be a bad idea. What do you say?"

"I was just passing by."

"There are some pretty strong bosses in there!"

"Strong..."

'Master always said that the only way to truly master the viginti tres was by challenging stronger beings.'

"Alright, let us go."

"Woah Woah, hold on let me regain my health and stamina."

Simply sat down on a tree to recuperate.

They had agreed to take only the loot of those they killed themselves. In the case of strong bosses, if they had to team up, then they would share it according to their contribution. This was the method only employed by the extremely strong, especially during this phase of the game.

Players who could solo goblins, at this stage, were rare. Even rarer were those who could solo an entire party. Only a few, who had prior combat experience could deal with the realism of this game. The gore and the pain were key points in the difficulty of combat. Many felt the urge to throw up after killing their first rabbit. Goblins were the first humanoid monsters that players faced. The lifelike emotions that they emitted, caused many to reconsider. Veteran killers and martial artists had an easier time getting past the psychological barrier. Others just took on a 'kill or be kill' approach. Professional gamers, after years of gaming, only saw them as experience points and loot.

Simply brought up his status and started distributing his unused stats. He was no fool. He knew that beyond the palisade, a small army of goblins led by hobgoblins awaited. Even with the element of surprise, he was just human after all.

When they were at their peak performance, the set-off. They swam across the river. Under the cover of darkness, which was irrelevant, they silently approached the wooden palisade. Moventus removed a rope from within his inventory. A few knots later he had a makeshift grappling hook. The swordman chucked the hook over the palisade. The tough stick, acting as the hook, got stuck in between the wooden spikes forming the fortifications. Trusting the make crude grappling hook, the pair made their way up.

From within the darkness, on the opposite banks, two forgotten figures emerged.
